neckdemon
The Bengals starters played as if we weren't really on the field. Looked absolutely horrible out there. I don't want to hear any crap about how we won the game. The win is meaningless. What's important is that the starters looked like crap on offense and defense. Regular season game and Dalton is chucking 5 td's again easily, while we barely manage 10 points. edit: there were some individual players that looked good (Johnson, powell) but as a whole both starting units looked bad. Jolot
Can we as a fan base take the skirts off and stop bitching and complaining about pre-season games that we won??in all seriousness that's a terrible way to look at things, th browning nagle jets went 5-0 in preseason and I think kotite was 7-1 or 6-2 in two years....I'm not comparing but the OP is right that was alarming
RSJ
It was a very alarming showing. Even the playcalling was bad. You open things up with a deep ball to David Nelson? Really? The OL looked terrible. Lets hope Cumberland is healthy by week one. Powell is better than Johnson. I would normally be of the opinion that the defense looks so bad because its a vanilla scheme - but there is no way to scheme around this defenses back end. Blitz packages are just going to lead to long plays by the opposing offenses. The middle of the field is completely uncovered. Kyle Wilson should be cut right now. The game was very discouraging. jack48
the penalties make me sick. Half of them have nothing to do with failure to execute. You should only commit penalties to prevent touchdowns and to protect your QB. Rex talking tough after the game is just bull. Let a player say that. T0mShane
Never had you pegged as an optimist That's the funny thing--when you read through my 20+ years of posting about the Jets, my underlying message has always been one of optimism. It only appears as negative when I'm advocating change.

TuscanyTile2
I didn't watch the game but it amazes me people get so worked up over preseason. These games are irrelevant. Integrity28
People can bitch all they want about Idzik. The problem is no longer talent acquisition and depth, we literally have one position group that is justifiably a concern, and that is largely due to injury. Last year we were in terrible shape at QB, WR, RB, OG, OLB, S, CB.... this year we are in terrible shape at CB. The rest of those areas are all trending up. Yet, from what I've seen in these games... we're in trouble. I'm not talking about not scoring enough, or getting torched by Dalton or any of that. The playcalling is vanilla, there's no real pass rush, the outcomes of plays aren't indicative of what we'll see during the year. HOWEVER, the lack of discipline is. That is the thing I see that does carry right into the season... We are, as usual, one of the worst coached / worst disciplined teams in football despite Idzik doing substantial work to rebuild the roster in 2 off-seasons. Rex apparently has 9 lives, no accountability and every time he tries to sell the notion that he's willing to fall on the sword I laugh my ******* ass off. First excuse: he's a defensive genius, it's not his fault the offense sucks - blame Schotty Second excuse: he hand picked Sporano, it's not his fault the offense sucks - blame Sporano Third excuse: he hand picks players he wants in draft and FA, the team has been in a downward spiral since Rex/Tanny started drafting, after Mangini/Tanny built the team Rex won with - blame Tannenbaum Fourth excuse: he doesn't have a QB - blame Sanchez Fifth excuse: he has a new QB - blame Geno Sixth excuse: Idzik gave him an entire draft full of contributors in year 1, and in year 2 made substantial upgrades to the offense, but one position group where Rex is supposed to be an expert is a little thin - blame Idzik

JustInFudge
It'll be 7-9, 8-8 and ugly. Pretty much. I never had high expectations for the team, I figured they'd compete for a WC spot but I dont think they will really be in the hunt. More like in the picture. That way back picture. They just dont have the horses. Its getting there but they need another offseason. Whatevs, this season was always about Geno and more or less, the DL. Is he the guy and can they be best in class unit? The rest of the roster you just want to see improvement from the guys that need it for the Jets to be good (Hill, Coples, Winters, Milliner, Richardson, Allen, etc). Maybe they surprise and put it together. Hopefully they get better as the season goes on. But those 6 games after the opener are brutal. The team on the field last night will get destroyed over that stretch.

They had only 1 less flag. The Pats vs. Eagles? Mess. Flags everywhere. Its sloppy. Its preseason. The new rules are drawing even more flags and last night was ridiculous. Some of those flags were totally unjust and the refs couldnt get a thing right. The Jets dont have the horses. Matt39
The Jets dont really have much of a base to build off of right now either. There's no blue chip players on this team...Mo is borderline. I get we need more players, but the current group sucks as it is. Granted the Bengals have never won a thing...but the talent difference was so dramatic last night. They just had guy after guy at key positions who can play.

Which "horses"? Are you asking which horses they dont have? I think jgb covered it. Maybe an OLB if Coples doesnt turn it around.
