Lizard King
I posted this in a thread but have reorganized it to discuss in wake of this miserable, team performance. As a coach, he was less than desirable. He had a philosophy, vision and process and it didn't translate to personal leadership. As an executive, it's the exact quality that this organization is sorely lacking. The biggest mistake Mangini made here in personnel was trading away Jonathan Vilma. Mangini's legacy was creating one of the best offensive lines in the NFL in 2009, the best rushing attack in the league, one of the best defenses in the league, trading for the one of the best nose tackles to ever play the game, drafted possibly the best cornerback ever, and laid the foundation for a rookie quarterback who won't even be in the league in two years to take a team to the AFCCG twice. Now, all of those qualities are gone. The offensive line gets abused. Mangold and Ferguso , Mangini guys, are nearing their end. The defense sucks. The offense sucks. Special teams sucks. The depth sucks. We caught lighting drafting Richardson and Coples, because otherwise our drafts have sucked. There is no discipline, there is no hope, there is no plan. He was never offered that opportunity in either Cleveland or San Francisco and it's unfair to compare those experiences to his work here.

detjetsfan69
Mangini was inept and didn't even make the picks it was Tanenbaum. Matt39
The team did seem somewhat organized back then. The offensive line he built was the reason we were in the playoffs in 09/10...along with drafting Revis.

But I don't think it's any coincidence that two years after the 2012 AFCCG, and his teams were basically dismantled, that Tannenbaum left as well. detjetsfan69
Mangini is so dumb he'd actually pass up on Jameis Winston in next year's draft for a kicker. This is the guy who traded up for Kellen Clemens, drafted the Boar-Hunter in the 3rd round of a loaded draft, drafted Gholston signed garbage like Kim Von Oehlhoffen and tried for 2 years to use Dewayne Robertson as a Nose Tackle. And that's the savior?
detjetsfan69
I'd rather have Terry friggin Bradway in charge. At least he made some good moves as a GM and wanted Russell Wilson when Tannenbaum wanted Stephen Hill and Tim Tebow.

Bleedin Green
Agree 100%. The only thing that will stop this is if Woody finally goes out and gets a proven winner. I do like Mangini a lot and wonder what 09/10 would have been like if he stuck around. It would be the same offense that we saw, but without Braylon given that the reason that trade took place was because Mangini was in Cleveland. The defense would resemble the 2008 D far more than what we saw in 2009, considering that other than Scott (who most likely wouldn't have been a Jet in that case), the changes there were more coaching than personnel. None of this is as any sort of defense of any of those other folks you're criticizing mind you. Rather, simply pointing out that even if you want to try to credit Mangini when it comes to personnel, there's no evidence to suggest he was a particularly good head coach, which would probably be why he's currently serving as a TE coach. Braylon Edwards, literally, is the only thing that Mike Tannenbaum did right after Mangini left, save for drafting Muhammed Wilkerson. Everything else he did was detrimental- he let the offensive line fall apart without drafting or signing adequate replacements; he committed his first born child to Mark Sanchez; he abandoned their core identity as a power football team; he signed and then resigned Santonio Holmes, wasting not only cap space but also poisoning the locker room and cementing the change in philosophy to a pass focused offense even though the team was built the opposite; and last but not least, he created Rex Ryan, a defensive coordinator masked as a head coach who has a remarkable talent of writing checks in the press that his team has to cash. I don't even say this to detriment Tannenbaum- I don't ever think he asked to be the general manager. He was a cap specialist whom Woody asked to move over and fill a void, and then you can easily connect the dots and see where Mangini was doing the planning and then in 2009 when he wasn't. And I would just like to add- Mangini traded us his sixth for Sanchez in 2009. Isn't that sh*tty in retrospect? It's been 6 years now and we could have avoided Mark Sanchez. So to summarize: we had a defensive minded, power football based roster; we totally abandoned it; and now we're bringing in the cap specialist from Seattle to create a defensive minded, power football team.
