Thor99
Any chance at all at prying Monty Kiffin from the Bucs. I know he's turned down HC jobs before, but it couldn't hurt to ask. Among current NFL head coaches, Sherman holds the fourth-best overall winning percentage (.640, 55-31), trailing only the Falcons' Jim Mora (.667, 12-6), the Redskins' Joe Gibbs (.661, 146-75) and the Eagles' Andy Reid (.657, 71-37). From solely the Packers perspective, Sherman is one of just four head coaches (of 13 total) in franchise history to hold a winning career mark, joining Hall of Famers Lambeau and Lombardi along with Super Bowl-victor Holmgren go look at his double digit win seasons these last 6 yrs. He is much better coach than Herm.

I disagree to a point, Afosomf. Sherman is NOT conservative. Look at Green Bay's offensive rankings under Sherman. How could anyone say he's conservative? If he's conservative, what is Herm, Pat Buchannon? Please. As a Bears follower, I know the man is anything but conservative. I'll take him in a heartbeat. Remember a few years back, when they sputtered on offense? Who took over the reins and called the plays himself? Sherman. Sherman is not a good personnel man, though. that much is true. I would be a bit concerned having him to rely upon Terry Bradway, but he can coach. Here's my ammo: O rankings since 2000 11th, 5th, 6th, 4th 5th, 22nd. Playoff appearnces 4 out of 6 years. I'd take him in a heartbeat. There are players here. Let him design/build the O and hire a good D coordinator. Tak ethe hit now, and rebuild this thing the right way. The Troll
the only one of those 3 i'd look at is Mangini but i'd rather have an offensive guy. I agree 100%. I would puke if we hired either one of those retreads. Mangini is very intriguing, but we need to rebuild the entire offense, basically, so it doesn't make much sense to hire a defensive coach. Thor99
He probably (Kiffin) makes more now than he would being our HC. This article says he's making 1.6 million, just under Herm's salary. It's possible that both him and Marinelli are slight unhappy with their situations. Team asked Kiffin to take pay cut By RICK STROUD, Times Staff Writer Published November 27, 2005 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TAMPA - The Bucs' first attempt to extend Monte Kiffin 's contract last summer didn't go over too well with the coaching staff. Why? Because the team wanted Kiffin to take a pay cut. The Bucs' 65-year-old defensive coordinator is among the highest-paid assistants in the NFL at approximately $1.6-million per year. But that contract was negotiated by vice president Joel Glazer in the afterglow of a Super Bowl title while Kiffin was being courted for the 49ers' head-coaching job. With the contracts of more than a half-dozen assistants set to expire at the end of this season, reducing Kiffin's salary would have made it easier for general manager Bruce Allen to retain much of the staff. Kiffin held his ground and eventually agreed to a two-year extension for reportedly the same salary. Kiffin joined rookie coach Tony Dungy 's staff in 1996, and since 1997, the defense has never finished lower than ninth in the league, including six top-five rankings and four times ending the season in the top three. Entering today's game against the Bears, Tampa Bay is third in the league. What message could asking the league's best defensive coordinator to reduce his salary send to the rest of the staff? Defensive line coach Rod Marinelli , 56 and with the Bucs since 1996, and defensive backs coach Mike Tomlin , 33 and with team since 2001, are among those who don't have contracts for next season. The Bucs have denied both opportunities in the past to interview for defensive coordinator jobs. Marinelli is one of the most highly respected assistants in the league and you can bet his agent, Frank Bauer , is lining up other NFL opportunities or possibly a college head-coaching job. Kiffin denied Friday he had agreed to an extension that would keep him with the Bucs through 2007. In fact, he said the topic had never been discussed. The Bucs do not comment on the status of coaches' contracts. But reports of Kiffin's extension rekindled what apparently was a hot topic before the start of the regular season. In the end, Kiffin got what he deserved. But the episode could end up costing the Bucs more than his salary.
