Mangold rated 9th best player in NFL

Who: Center, New York Jets (1-8)

By the Numbers: No. 1 in PFF Overall, No. 1 in PFF Pass Block, No. 1 in PFF Run Block

Story So Far: Nick Mangold has been one of the NFL's best centers for years. In his nine-year career, he's been a Pro Bowler five times and named a First Team All-Pro twice.

This just might be his best year yet, even as the Jets offense collapses around him. He's dominating the Pro Football Focus grades and opening great running lanes (even if only one of the Jets' running backs is reading them).

The apparent quality of interior linemen is often affected by the play of their linemates. Considering that every other Jets offensive lineman is deep into the negative end of PFF's grades, Mangold's quality is undeniable.

He is a future Hall of Famer.

We should be building around him.

I'd rather have the best QB than the best center in the league. But that's just me.

That's all well and good.

Problem is, we don't HAVE the best QB in the league, and we DO have the best Center in the league.

So rather than lament what we don't have, perhaps we should build around what we do have.

Me, I'd rather have the best QB in the league playing behind the best Center in the league.

They used to have the best CB in the league too

Yes, then he got hurt, and now he's the most expensive average CB in the NFL.

The Patriots with Revis just shut down the Denver Broncos. The most exciting offense in all of football. Revis had 5 tackles and 2 passes defended. He has 2 INTs and 7 PDs on the year.  Despite not being thrown on very much.

Jets fans like to tell themselves Revis is terrible and they did the right thing trading him. That's a lie. Revis is far above average. He's a difference maker, and like Mangold, a probable hall of famer.

ps- the Jets could have resigned Revis this year but they chose cap space instead. Cap space.

No corner is ever worth $12M.  Ever.  I don't care if he's the best CB of all time.  Just give it a rest already; you've been whining about it for 10 months.  He was NEVER going to come here.  And he was never going to save us from a 3-13 type season either.

You always talk about money. Cap space doesn't win games.

the Patriots are on the road to a Super Bowl. And Revis is a big part of that.

As for his effect on the Jets, the biggest problem with this team is a lack of corners. It's safe to say Revis makes that problem much better.

Bit calling for a Pats SB? Put your money on the Broncos ;)

i'm tired of any discussion about a potential acquisition to invariably end with "if we get him cheap."

to paraphrase warren buffet: better to get a good player at a fair price than a fair player at a good price.
