Parking/Tailgate

Recommended Posts

Don't know if anyone has seen this , but got this email from the Jets this morning.

Can't believe they are trying to implement this crap - as an improvement no less.  The Jets are simply clueless in all aspects !!!

You asked, we listened. As we gear up for our last home game in 2014 against the Patriots on 12/21, we wanted to make you aware of a change in Lot L (yellow parking pass lot). To improve your parking experience, for this game we will be utilizing “directed in parking” where a parking staff member will direct you to park in one spot. Please note the one car per one spot rule will be in full effect, and the parking lot will be filled in the order of your arrival.

Should you be parking in this lot we ask for your full cooperation as we look for ways to continue to make your parking experience better as expressed in the postgame surveys by our Season Ticket Holders. For a full site map for MetLife Stadium, please click here.

If you have any questions, please contact a Jets Representative at 800-469-JETS (5387). We look forward to seeing you on Sunday!

Sincerely,
The New York Jets

Yeah, Ive been on the phone with my rep and representatives from Metlife stadium all morning. My rep says its begins at 9 a.m., so if you get there at 8, you can park whereever  you'd like. Im still wating to confirm that with the stadium reps.

This is so stupid. That is a huge lot so they are going to bunch everyone together. And it you get there at 9:10am and your friend gets there at 9:15am, you can't park next to each other?

Why just Lot L?

Amazing isn't it. And to think they did this as a guise to improve the gameday experience - haha.

Its a conspiracy against the L7 tailgate.  They were having too much fun tailgating and not spending enough at the concession stands.  thats why the Jets staff have visited so often... to take notes and find a way to destroy something else good about a Jets game.

For the late arriving crowd it improves their experience.  This way spaces dont go unused or using multiple spots for 1 parking pass and those who show up 20 min before kickoff can find a spot in a lot and not on the surrounding roadways.

Another stupid idea- they ruin the tailgate experience the best part of going to the game.

and there goes tailgating folks........i like the way they are implementing it on the last game of the year (when no one is going to be there)instead of next year......its like a company releasing bad news on a friday afternoon hoping it gets lost in the shuffle by monday morning.......give us a whole summer to bitch and hopefully forgotten by fall

Bunch of clowns, so they are going to have the human cones serve as parking attendants?  I heard the 9AM thing myself and actually sent a email to my rep that if they screw this up, I will have to seriously think about keeping my 4 upper seats next season.  Amazing that a team at 3-11 tries yet to ruin the pregameday experience, as if the product on the field is not enough.

Since tailgating became such a big thing, the bean counters have cast a hairy eyeball at trying to monetize it and force fans to buy stuff either inside or outside. Shocked they haven't banned grills and cans and bottles. Yet.

I'm guessing they are thinking the lot won't be full for this game so they are trying to make it as compact as possible? This is kinda baffling.

I dont know what they are thinking, but us over in L7 are trying are hardest to rally the troops to arrive prior to 9 am. there is a group of us that are outside the gate at 630 and in the lot at 8, but many kind of trickle in. We're just trying to make th best out of the situation.

The parking lot babysitters do not do their damn jobs. The parking is sold by the spot 1 spot = $25.00 if you want 2 spots to tailgate pay the $50.00 why should a person who gets their an hour before game time be turned away from a lot that has numerous tailgaters taking up more than 1 spot.

The best is the people who put chairs in spots to save them for other people. My buddy ran over 2 folding chairs last season when we politely asked people to move them and they refused.

Jets do not allow people to pay for a spot to let it remain open.

So it's only lot "L" correct?  Lowlifes, like myself, who park in the orange lots are alright?

One positive of this is that the attendants in L will have to actually do something this week. I am lame and haven't tailgated much this year and have arrived an hour or so before kickoff a few times. It is very frustrating to have to navigate that lot when many folks are taking up two spots. If they'd just enforce that this probably wouldn't be needed. Or I guess this is there way of enforcing one car per spot?

I would actually also be ok with attendants just helping. Let people take or hold their multiple spots but then help late arrives find spots. Or let folks take multiple spots but as it gets more full start paring it down.

I dunno. Will be interesting. I guess they're piloting it in L to see if it works or is a CF on a smaller scale at a game I assume won't be too well attended.

only the yellow lot for now.. but let's be honest about what the Jets are doing here.

This is a test run so that they can implement this policy in every lot next year. That is terrible on so many levels. Consider this scenario:

4 cars full of fans have been tailgating with each other in the (let's call it) X lot.. They stagger in from all different parts of the tri-state area. One brings a grill. The other guys bring the food. The other guys bring the beer. The 4th car brings the tables and chairs. In this new parking system, you can not park next to each other even if you all show up within 10 minutes of each other. So here is how it will play out.

Car 1 shows up with the grill and gets it set up. Car 2 has coolers full of food but has to carry them all the way across the parking lot to meet up with his buddies with the grill. Car 3 has a couple 30 packs and has to lug them - with their coolers - across the lot too. Car 4 has only 2 people in it and has too much to carry - so they have to call their friends who just walked across the lot to come help them. Then at the end of the tailgate, they all have to bring everything all the way across the lot back to their cars before they can walk in to the game.

This is blatantly obvious that the Jets are attempting to make it as hard on fans to tailgate as humanly possible so that people will just give up and buy their insanely priced concessions. To try and sell it to the fans any other way is a blatant lie.

Has anyone ever partook in the jets-sanctioned pre-game events? I think they sell $5 bud lites before the game. It is crazy that that's considered a good deal. Yes, it's less than the $12 in-game beers, but you are effectively paying $5 for a can of cold urine. No thanks.

Maybe they're leading eventually to tailgating and no tailgating lots as an interim step?

Why not meet outside the stadium before you go through the turnstile where they take your parking pass 3-4 cars go in together and park together. Instead of 1 guy showing up 3 hours later than everyone else and expecting a spot to be saved. I applaud parking lot rule enforcement been a longtime coming as far as I'm concerned. You pay $25 for 1 spot you dont buy the entire lot and expect to do as you please.

Yes its logistically possible for thousands of groups of tailgaters to all group up together outside the stadium before going in . I'm sure local law enforcement would love this. I have a better idea why don't you just get there earlier like everyone else.

This is how they do it in Miami. You pay for parking and some snot nosed 14 year old kid points to where you should park. I remember one kid insisting that Joebaby park in a front parking spot straight in so he couldn't access his tailgate. After pointing out "how can I tailgate"? Snot nosed kid let him move.

Nobody tells the joebaby how it is.

I left a snarky email reply to that memo and eventually my Tix Rep called me regarding my email. I missed the call and the office was closed when I called back, but I'll let him know that the Jets are sucking out any & all enjoyment from attending a live game and this is just another example. They are compromising a 6 year STH who is becoming disenchanted with the "LIVE" experience let alone the putrid product they put on the field.

I emailed my rep for some clarity on this. Seems like a real disaster for us folks who meet up. For the people who arrive late and don't tailgate I suppose this is good. But as far as im concerned tailgating is the only reason to go over the last few years.

You know even though I don't really have big tailgates anymore (used to have an awesome one where many folks met up at a spot), this is annoying on a different level.  When I'm there early even if not tailgating big I like to park in a spot favorable to getting the hell out of the parking lot quickly after the game.  Like near an exit pointed out.  It will suck if they direct you to a spot in the middle or far from where you're headed.

What makes you think they care? They forced season ticket holders who had tickets since Shea stadium out.

+1

This is a great move by the Jets for those of us who don't like to arrive at the game 2 hours early just to get a parking spot. For as many people like to turn the parking lot into a frathouse barbeque there are as many people who want nothing to do with that scene and just want to park, walk, and get into the stadium.

I've been emailing and lobbying for a tailgate-free lot for years, I'm hoping they get to that next.

SAR I
