Parking/Tailgate

again with this.. go find that thread and pull ANY quote from me saying that we in ANY way encourage this. You won't find it because when a random poster proposed the idea, we quickly said that idea was not a good one and way out of line… so if you want to bash us - at least don't make up lies. We get that you don't like what we are doing… but choose one of the things that actually happened to complain about.

I talked to him earlier, he said he will behave now.

It sounds like moving the start time of directed parking back may be a decent solution.  I think they can probably move it back even later, too.  In the old place where I used to park, I think it was trivially easy to park in around the same spot until maybe 10:15 or 10:30.  After that it started getting potentially dicey.  Not always (if the Jets were bad, weather was worrisome, etc).

As long as you can park around where you want without being impacted by the folks breaking the 1 spot per car rule, I think it's preferable to let folks park where they want.  The tailgaters can meet, folks can park for strategic exits, etc.

But once it becomes annoying and, technically, a little dangerous to have many cars wandering around amidst a sea of tailgating, kids running after footballs, etc, have the attendants step up and start directing parking.  Have them point/escort you to spots, enforcing the 1 car per spot rule as they fill in the lot.

Sounds like a win-win-win for tailgaters wanting to meet, folks coming a little later, and the Jets increasing safety and optimizing their parking space.  And either play with the start time (I might pick 10:30 if I was the boss) or even just have the attendants make an individual call each week depending on how busy.

We arrived about an hour and a half earlier than usual just to avoid any bad situations and to insure our regular tailgate location.  I watched very closely how this experiment unfolded from my position in L15. All of the gates on the west and north sides of the lot were closed off, and they funneled vehicles into a single gate on the east side of the lot, at 9:30 they distributed stadium parking people to attempt directing vehicles from entering the east gate all the way to the northwest corner of the lot.  This was a joke as cars simply broke off the straight line pattern to go to the area they preferred, the more I watched this, the more it became apparent of how stupid this idea was - looked like the Keystone Cops.   A couple Jets officials spent some time out there, everybody seemed to have a different opinion on how to implement this idea, lots of hands waving and finger pointing by supervisors, and I'd say about an hour after they started the experiment, they shut it down. I tried talking to one of the Jets officials when he walked back through our area and he was pretty rude to me - hey Woody - that's some customer service you have there.... first insult your loyal patrons by putting them through this then offer rude remarks - geez!

The thing that didn't plunge this project into utter chaos was the fact that traffic was unusually light for this game.   All five of our friends vehicles which  arrived at different times after 9:30AM were able to park next to our main tailgating vehicle - and I'd say everyone else in lot "L" was able to do the same. When we closed up our tailgate, there were plenty of spaces in L15 to be had.   Had this been attempted at one of the season's earlier games where the weather is fine and attendance is full, it would have been hell to pay.

What I did note (which is the prime contributor to lot congestion) is that people still erect pop up tents in spaces next to their vehicle and there was no enforcement to curtail, this is where they have to improve and concentrate their efforts - instead of "directed parking".  We all know they close up the lots way too early when there are still plenty of spaces available - then at 12:30 they reopen the lot and attendants clear spaces - this should be done right from the start and the problem is kept to a manageable level.

Thanks for the report-yes they close the lots before they are filled-they need better enforcement of any group taking up more spots than they should

Our group which is usually there at 8 AM has a tradition of doing a holiday breakfast out before the last home game . We got to lot L in various cars at about 11:15 AM - saw no sign of parking enforcement and found plenty of spots together in L8. Glad to hear they tried the directed parking and it failed - its just not a viable solution. As others have pointed out in this thread there are better options and more effective means of making the parking a win-win for everyone.

Jets should go to Disney or heck even Great Adventure and learn how to do "directed in" parking.

And enforce the damn rules.  1 spot.

Difference is people don't tailgate at Disney or Great Adventure. Directed in Parking is a stupid idea for football games. Let them save a small lot or portion of a lot for late arrivers , let them get directed parking .

Directed in works if there is enough staff and that staff forces people to only use 1 spot and not save any spots.  But there isnt enough staff, they dont want to do their job, and fans have a sense of entitlement that they can do what they damn well please in the parking lot.

You want to choose your spot? Good. We can do that too.  Just dont get pissed off when the parking crew tells tailgaters to move their crap out of the open spot and direct someone else to park there.  That is the solution.

And yes. They can learn from Disney and Great Adventure on how to move cars and crowds quickly and not hold up the late arriving crowd.  Right now they dont do anything to help the situation.

We went through it in L16 but got there shortly before 9AM before the insanity ensued. The lots were still pretty empty as late as 1030-11. Had one guy come and break our balls about our tents, which were directly behind our vehicles. We did NOT violate the one spot per customer rule, but the jerk still felt the need to break our balls. We moved the tents all of 6 inches and the guy never returned. Some of our crew were redirected all over the place which was a joke. The parking guy (our usual attendant) told us they threw the towel in shortly after enforcement began because it was a total cluster (like that was going to be some sort of suprise?!?!). I wish the guys that come up with these bright ideas would try out the gameday experience so they can actually relate to the consequences of their decisions.

Why should late arrivers not get a parking spot because those that are tailgating are breaking the rules in place by taking up more than 1 spot with something other than a car.

Yeah, but on the flip side if the 1 spot rule is enforced, those spots would still be taken by the time the late arrivals get there. Either way, late arriving people will always get worse spots.

all they have to do is go to Rutgers.  its works fine with ZERO problems.  they have been doing this for yrs.

The gameday experience is exhausting. I have no idea how ppl do that 7-8 Sundays a year...

I enjoy tailgating...but I see the argument regarding idiots taking up several spaces with their cornhole games and whatnot. Being anti-tailgate though is silly. Ownership in this town has taken the fun out of everything. All the new stadiums suck including the MSG renovation.

Where did I say they shouldn't get a spot. I said they should reserve a lot for them and if needed use directed parking for the late arrivals .

How about numbering the spots and your parking pass number the spots in the lots thats where you park regardless of what time you get there. Example Green lot spot 469 problem solved.

Never work unless they come up with better technology. They would need a gazillion parking attendents and police to deal with people parked in the wrong spots. Now if they had some kind of electronic lock , that would allow entry into a space that is triggered by the chip in your parking pass - bingo .

LOL...I'm sure that would be a cheap solution to this (non)issue. I don't seem to remember nearly this many issues at the old stadium when parking was paid for at the gate and there was no caste system. Or maybe these forums just didn't exist for the whiners to whine.
