Frank Reich with Schwartz staying on as DC would be a very good option for them.

ya agree, if jets get marrone (or almost any Off minded candidate) I think they copy that and promote dunbar to DC and keep same scheme.

If we get a Def minded candidate I am not so sure we keep MM as OC though.

Per source, #Jets have requested to interview Saints Director of Player Personnel Ryan Pace for open GM position.

It is interesting that the jets are turning to the names such as Pace and Ballard that were rumored to be in the list in the first place (and I think who the bears are also interviewing).

Doug Marrone also worked with the Saints from 06-08 when as an OC when Pace was the director of pro scouting, so there are some interesting ties there.

Yeah, some are suggesting that Marrone is driving this GM search. He has ties to 3 of the candidates. Mueller, MacCagnan, and Pace. Nevertheless, Ryan Pace is a legitimate candidate. Bears are interested in him too.

Who's left on the Jets "HC list" to interview after Marrone today?

appears Jets want HC/GM previous chemistry, so I think: math wise, if they lock up Mueller or Macgagnan they can pick from 3 HCs who have known chemistry

previous resume matches, aka chemisty hopefully, LOL

marrone with Mueller, MacCagnan, or Pace

quinn with kirchner?

bowles with mueller or grier

Kubiak with Macgagnan

This is excellent news. Let's have everyone on the same frikking page for a change. If it fails at least the blame goes all around. I think the Jets are doing a great job so far this offseason.

Glad to see Woody and the "team" moving quickly through interviews but also keeping

the search open.  It's only been a week since Ryan/Idzik have been let go there's no

reason to lock in on anyone yet.  When Cowher stepped down in PIT it was assumed

that someone on his staff would get the job (Whisenhunt, Grimm).  But they opened

up the search and they found Tomlin who blew them away.  The rest is history, we

should be that lucky

Per source, #Jets have requested to interview Saints Director of Player Personnel Ryan Pace for open GM position.

Impressive!

Ryan Pace enters his first season as the Saints Director of Player Personnel in 2013. He will work closely with Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis to oversee the club’s college and pro scouting operation and all aspects of scouting and evaluation of college prospects and professional players, including the Saints roster.

Entering his 12th year as a member of the Saints player personnel department, Pace spent the last six seasons as the club’s Director of Pro Scouting. In addition to overseeing the club’s staff of pro scouts, Pace’s responsibilities included recommending player acquisitions by evaluating current Saints players and scouting current and future free agents from the NFL and other professional leagues, monitoring the waiver wire, researching possible trade opportunities and supervising the advance scouting of upcoming opponents. In addition, as the organization prepared for the NFL Draft following the season, Pace assisted in the evaluation of some of the top college prospects.

Prior to becoming Director of Pro Scouting, Pace served as a Pro Scout from 2004-06, with his efforts including evaluating veteran free agents, scouting upcoming opponents and evaluating college players in preparation for the NFL Draft. He had served as a Scouting Assistant for two years starting in 2002. His well-rounded experiences included evaluating players from around the league as well as prospects from NFL Europe, the Arena Football League and the Canadian Football League. Pace also tracked player movement, scouted college players and assisted in the preparation of the draft room.

In 2008, he was selected by the club to attend the Stanford Business School’s Executive Education NFL-Stanford Program for Managers, an educational program and honor known across the league as an important training ground for promising executives.

Pace first joined the Saints in 2001, assisting in the coordination of all operations on game days, training camp and with the Louisiana Superdome.

Originally from Flower Mound, Texas, Pace was a four-year letterman at defensive end at Eastern Illinois (1995-99) – serving as team captain as a senior – and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in marketing.

The New York Jets have worked through their first wave of interviews for their Head Coach and General Manager vacancy.  Woody Johnson, Charley Casserly and Ron Wolf are leading the search with Neil Glat also present in interviews to represent the business aspect of the organization. However, Casserly and Wolf are the individuals who will drive the ultimate decision.

As of now, the Jets have interviewed Dan Quinn and Tom Cable for their Head Coach spot. They are currently meeting with Doug Marrone and have a scheduled interview with Frank Reich. There are also requests in to interview Todd Bowles and Gary Kubiak. It is hard to find somebody who does not think Marrone is the favorite right now. However, that could very well be a product of the media and work done by Marrone’s agent Jimmy Sexton. Without question, he is a serious candidate but he is also being considered in other places. Again, there is overreactions on both sides to Marrone. Like everybody else they are interviewing, he has pros and cons. He has a resume that is comparable to other candidates out there. I wouldn’t write off Quinn or Reich yet, particularly Quinn but if you were betting on a most likely candidate right now, it would probably still be Marrone.

At GM, Trent Kirchner was interviewed in Seattle and Browns Executive Chief Bill Kuharich was on Thursday. Mike Maccagnan and Rick Mueller are scheduled for next week, with requests in for Chris Ballard and Chris Grier. Kuharich has the least inspiring resume out of the group so far. Many are presuming Maccagnan is the favorite but Mueller and Kirchner are still very much in the mix. Ballard is likely to end up in Chicago while Grier is an intriguing darkhorse with ties to Casserly and some impressive college scouting work.

As for the pacing on the search, both are ongoing concurrently with the GM candidates presenting a list of Head Coach candidates they desire to work with. The Jets cannot risk delaying their Head Coach search for a substantial period of time with five other teams scrambling to fill their vacancy as well.

If something doesn’t move in the next few days with Maccagnan and Marrone, the presumed favorite duo right now it could signal the Jets are willing to be patient for Quinn or Bowles or that Mueller, Kirchner or Grier are serious contenders for the GM role

I really do get think it's Maronne..

I'm sorry but these guys don't give up NFL HC jobs unless they have something else lined up.

Agreed.

Although how desperate must Buffalo have been for a coach 2 yrs. ago to let a coaching candidate put a $4 million walk-away clause. That's crazy!

He probably got paid more leaving than he would have if he coached them this season.

Could you imagine if a Jet GM gave that outclause to an HC....the abuse that he would take would be overwhelming.

One thing I don't get about Marrone's reason for leaving. He basically gives the Bills a "take-it or leave-it" proposition that they extend him and his assistants. Bills stand firm and he walks... basically leaving his assistants

without a job when the new HC takes over there. Except for Schwatz... I think his contract runs through 2016.

If he does get hired, does that mean he brings all his asst's with him? Watch Buffalo screw him and make the new coach keep Marrone's guys(a Woody move for sure!)

UFL Hires Rick Mueller

The upstart United Football League has hired former New Orleans Saints and Jacksonville Jaguars front office executive Rick Mueller as its vice president and general manager.

Mueller is to serve as GM of each of the league's four teams and is to oversee scouting and player acquisition for the entire league, the fledgling league announced.

"Rick Mueller brings a wealth of experience and knowledge from his more than 14 years in the NFL," league commissioner Michael Huyghue said in a written statement. "Rick has played a significant role in building winning sports franchises from the scouting of players to draft day decisions to contract negotiations. The UFL is very fortunate to have him leading the league's football operations and working with the individual teams as we move closer to our... season debut in October."

The league previously hired Dennis Green, Jim Haslett, Jim Fassel and Ted Cottrell to coach its four teams.
