Jets request interview with Seattle DC Dan Quinn

So then Woody will hire the future GM after Casserly and/or Wolf pick a new HC?  That makes no sense at all.  No... there's something else going on that we don't know about, otherwise Woody is making the same mistake all over again by forcing a HC on any new GM.

We already have the new gm for this particular offseason. HC is probably a more difficult position to fill there aren't a lot of great candidates out there.

Because they won't be able to interview anybody after this week until their respective teams are finished with the playoffs.

Yes, we all know that.. but there is no GM in place.  Doesn't answer the question of why not let a new GM bring in his own guy?  Woody repeating his past mistakes.  We must have the dumbest owner in the NFL.

So you would pay Harris an obscene amount to watch how slow he is for another season?  He is not worth the big money anymore.  With him in there, you automatically have a gaping hole in the position in passing situations.  Harris would be a good rotational guy for about 2 - 3 million.  Beyond that, adios muchachos.  He's a real big liability out there.

Nobody is paying Harris. It's like when Sione Pouha was a free agent most jets fans thought he was getting Albert haynesworth money and he ended up resigning with us for cheap on what was essentially a one year deal. Nobody is paying Harris big money

He is only requesting interviews of guys who might not be available for a few weeks because of the playoffs. Once the playoffs start, interviews for coaches on teams still in the playoffs are not going to be available. Relax.

Why are they interviewing HC candidates without hiring a GM first? Or is there a GM deal already done with a wink and a handshake that we don't know about? I certainly hope so otherwise it will be even more obvious how Woody doesn't learn a blessed thing from his past mistakes.

Because you hired C and W to help find a new HC and GM.

If you don't meet with assistants of the 4 bye week playoffs teams by this Saturday, you can't see them until they are out of the playoffs.

The typically dumb thing you'd expect from a Jet owner would be to wait until you hired a GM, then find out that all the potential HCs your new GM wanted have been signed by other teams who didn't sit and wait and have to settle for some second rate schlub who nobody else wants like Rex and Rob Ryan, Tony Sparano, Marty Mornhinweg or Mike Shanahan

So they interview these candidates and tell them what?  Hey, we really think you are a fine candidate and we'll get back to you after the playoffs and after we eventually hire a GM so sit tight?   Sorry.  That's idiotic.  Got to get the GM first.

It's not idiotic. You tell the top coaching candidates that the Jets are interested as opposed to showing no interest. Top candidates are interviewing with other teams as well. If it's a single player, where you can just get someone better next year, then whatevs. But taking the 2nd or 3rd best HC candidate can be disastrous, and if he is we'll be stuck with that mistake for multiple seasons.

It's a first interview, nothing more. It's also informing the interviewee to not hastily sign with anyone until they've seen our offer first, which would ideally - but not necessarily - come after our GM is hired. To do otherwise is to tell the un-interviewed that the NY Jets have no interest.

It's easy on paper to say just hire the GM first. But it's also entirely possible that the best GM candidates cannot accept the job yet because the successful teams they presently work for are still playing. The GM candidates coming from non-playoff teams are the only ones who can be hired right now.

Again, a candidate like Quinn is merely being interviewed; I'm sure he can't be hired while he's still actively coaching the Seahawks' defense, and there is a one time only opportunity to interview him before the Seahawks' season ends (which means the next time we can talk to him might be over a month from now, on February 2nd). There is no talking to him next week since Seattle will not grant the permission for us to even send him an email after Saturday, and rightly so: he needs to be focused 100% on their upcoming game the moment he knows who the opponent is.

Woody/Casserly/Wolf are 100% correct to get our foot in the door. They don't have to actually hire Quinn, and it's doubtful they are even permitted to do so while he's still coaching for Seattle. They DO have to keep the team's options open by letting any top candidate know that the Jets aren't totally disinterested, and to gauge Quinn's interest in the job so they don't pass up on someone else while waiting for Seattle's season to end, for him to THEN say I don't know why you waited for me I never had any interest in the Jets' job.

The most idiotic thing to do is for Woody and his 2 hired consultants to sit on our hands and shuffle paper to-do lists like helpless babies simply because the next GM isn't yet hired.

They're doing both. It's not far fetched to think when Wolf / Casserly do their GM prep work they find out who that GM may have interest in for HCs.

Wolf/Casserly agree on a coach and get him. Especially if Wolf knows his son is becoming the Asst. GM until Sr. resigns.

What a better place than NY for Wolf to do his greatest miracle ever. Bringing a Championship to suffering Jets fans.

Its very possible that the GM and HC come as a tandem. They are interviewing Quinn and Cable in Seattle for HC and also interviewing Trent Kirchner for the GM job. Woody mentioned that the chemistry between the HC and GM is a priority to him. These guys have already been working together, so the chemistry is already there.
