If BB coached the Jets this year, we'd be talking Super Bowl, bro!

////pats fans

Yes, Belichick has proven repeatedly he can win without Brady

Except of course that he's never done it. 1 playoff season in 7 years as a HC w/out Brady, and 1 playoff win.  Rex > belichick

For those who would keep Rex after this season, what would it take for you to fire him?  At what point would you say it's time?

I agree that Rex has merits as a coach, but after 4 straight non-winning seasons, you might as well anoint him coach for life if you're unwilling to make a change.

Chan, my friend, you have to calm down a bit.

Great day as the Jets move in a different direction.

BTW, Pats passed on Brady 7 times, they took him with their 2nd pick in the 6th round.

This is all meaningless until you find the QB. Glad Idzik is gone, hope we finally get a QB in here

Seriously, you are still pounding your chest over one game 5 FRIGGN' YEARS AGO?

Any dumbass HC in the NFL can win one game.

Look what Bozo has accomplished over a 16-game regular season for the last 6 years.

Gotta love all the home playoff games Rex has delivered for Jets fans.

Outside of the 45-3 game, Rex has always played the Pats tight.  That said, Brady's on the tail end of things, next year isn't likely our year either, so I'm not all that worried about losing Rex.

37 years old. Tick tock tick tock.

38 on August 3, 2015

Battling a clock that even Belichick cheating, Kraft bimbo chasing while Mira is barely dead or Hernandez murdering can't stop

Tick Tock Tick Tock...louder and louder..

closer to 50 than the 20s years of an NFL players prime

Tom Brady is 9 and 4 vs Rex Ryan. In 13 games, he's thrown for 19 TDs and 7 INTs. He has a career passer rating of 94.2 vs Ryan. He had two bad games vs Ryan, one in 2009, and one in 2013. Otherwise, he's had QB ratings of 98.6, 148.9, 100.7, 118.4, 144.5, and 103.5 against Rex Ryan.

The mythology surrounding Ryan's time here is easily the dumbest sh*t I've ever encountered on the internet. The level of derp to sugarcoat this man's failures is mind-numbing. Kim Jong Il didn't require this degree of propaganda.

This article is awesome, but there was no viable way to keep Rex beyond this year. You couldn't bring in another GM to be Rex's boss, and you can't trust Rex enough with personnel to put him in charge of the whole operation.

I definitely put the two losing seasons in the last four years at the feet of the talent procurers over the coach of that lack of talent, though. Tannenbaum was terrible, and deserved to be fired. Idzik was -amazingly- worse, and deserved to be fired. Neither man had any experience or skill when it came to evaluating talent, and they were forced to lean on Rex - who also lacks that ability. I believe Rex can be a very good coach working for a qualified GM, though. Unfortunately, that set-up was never going to happen here.

How many close games has Rex lost in 6 years?

Good/Great HC's win close games.

Playing the Pats close is a losers mentality, nothing more than another moral victory.

Bottom line, Rex was 1-7 against the Pats in his last 4 years.

Rex Ryan was a good coach. But let's be real here, Jets and him had to part ways. Their's just no way around it, Jets need new blood in that organization and need to start over. Now, do I think we'll end up with a better coach then Rex? Probably not, Harbaugh ain't coming here and most of the top college coaches are locked down, so were probably going to end up with a second or third choice for HC. But the Jets at least have to try.

This guy is a Patriots fan and has 17,000 posts on a Jets board. Can someone say obsessed?

This was my favorite line: Oh, and let's not forget the fact that Ryan once took Mark Sanchez to two consecutive NFC Championships. The heralded Chip Kelly couldn't even get Sanchez to the playoffs!

Not that Rex actually did get to the NFC Championship game, but the sentiment was spot on.

The AFCC Game in 2009 is a mirage, Rex did nothing except benefit from Polian's idiotic forcing of Jim Caldwell to remove Peyton Manning from that game against the Jets at halftime to avoid risk of injury, preplacing him with Curtis Painter. Curtis Painter < Al Woodall and / or Bob Davis.

Had Manning remained in that game, the Jets lose, miss the playoffs, and there is no AFCC Game in 2009 for us. Also, I know it could never be Rex's fault the following year when "his defense" forgot to show up in the AFCC game in Pittsburgh.. That was the most disappointed I have ever been after a Jets game. Not the fact that we lost on the road, but the way we lost. Not showing up until the 2nd half.

Aren't you guys sick of never playing a home playoff game? Aren't you guys sick of never having a shot to win it all?

Rex is a great defensive mind, or at least he used to be. Rex has no concept of offense except how to defend it, and even that skill has slipped.

I like Rex as a person, he was always fun to listen to and treated people the way he wanted to be treated, I like Rex as a DC as well, but clearly it was time to move on.

So basically, Rex took a team that had no business whatsoever to even be in the playoffs, and won two playoff games on the road with them.

And that's an argument against the man?

Here's what they had to say about Rex and Idzik...

Jets Fire HC Rex Ryan: F Grade

There are only a handful of coaches in the NFL who know how to contain Tom Brady. The Jets had one of them, and they also happen to be in Brady's division... and yet, they fired that coach? Huh?

Woody Johnson cemented himself as one of the league's most incompetent owners by firing Ryan on Black Monday. What Ryan did in 2014 was miracle work. The Jets had a roster that screamed 1-15; outside of the defensive line, the team didn't have a single positive unit. Ryan was able to somehow win four games with such a depleted squad, and the players loved him; they played hard for him in so many meaningless games. Oh, and let's not forget the fact that Ryan once took Mark Sanchez to two consecutive NFC Championships. The heralded Chip Kelly couldn't even get Sanchez to the playoffs!

Ryan does have his warts. He doesn't have a grasp of the offensive side of the ball, so he needs to have a sharp offensive coordinator to work with him. He also screws up clock and game-management situations occasionally. Having said that, unless you want to count Jim Harbaugh, Ryan is the top head-coaching candidate available this offseason. The Jets will be worse off with whomever they hire. In fact, the Dolphins, who had a horrific showing in Week 17, should think about canning Joe Philbin and hiring Ryan, who would thrive in Miami because a strong offense is already in place there.

I just don't understand what the Jets are doing. I predicted them to go 2-14 prior to this season, so they surpassed expectations. John Idzik was the one to blame for what happened this year. Speaking of Idzik...

Jets fire GM John Idzik: A+ Grade

John Idzik was arguably the NFL's worst general managers, so he absolutely had to go. This move is actually a year too late, as he should've been fired last offseason. During his tenure in New York, Idzik...

Signed numerous free-agent busts, like: Breno Giacomini, Mike Goodson, Antwan Barnes, Willie Colon and David Garrard.

Obtained three players (Chris Johnson, QBDK, Percy Harvin) who poisoned the locker room.

Gave No. 1 receiver money to No. 2 wideout Eric Decker, despite having nothing at quarterback.

Dedicated resources to second-round pick Geno Smith.

Squandered many draft choices, including the No. 9 overall selection on Dee Milliner, as well as several mid-rounders spent on terrible receivers.

Allowed Darrelle Revis and Antonio Cromartie to walk away without properly addressing the cornerback position, putting Rex Ryan in a tough spot.

Alienated many of those in the front office.

Idzik, who had no scouting experience upon being hired, was expected to be a failure from Day 1, but no one figured he would be incompetent on a Matt Millen-type level. The only thing he didn't do was drop the six-letter F-bomb on one of his receivers in front of the media.

Mediocre QB play and we win a lot of those games.  Now, Rex's responsibility for that play is another story.  But, I realize it's not a win, and if we keep this D-Line in tact, I think we'll always be at least reasonably competitive on defense.  Need to find a QB and perhaps first someone who values finding a QB.

Again, Good/Great QB's win close games. Belichick is Rex + an all time great at QB. It's actually mind boggling that people think Rex wouldn't have been a big winner with Brady as his QB.

It's incredible how many people are advocating so loudly about how we need a QB in the draft and about how we need a real WR, showing that they understand how points are scored in the NFL. But then the next moment are absolutely trashing on a coach for not pulling touchdowns out of his ass with the abysmal offensive unit he has.

I assume you guys think we shouldn't draft a QB correct? Because it was Rex's fault that they weren't great. It can't be that they just aren't that good. Next year when we have Geno as our starter, is it still going to be Rex's fault when we suck?

He didn't make some of those moves (eg not signing Revis/Cromartie) until this year yet they say idzik should've been fired after last year? Meanwhile they went 8-8 and saved a lot of cap money (and drafted Richardson plus Dee Milliner and Geno both looked promising). Idzik looked like he did okay going into this past offseason. I think what really did him in was this past year's draft.

Sure. People who are skeptical about acknowledging hypotheticals as fact are the crazy ones.

nonsense, these are the same people that were advocating keeping Idzik because Rex is unable to develop young talent so we can't know just how bad Idzik sucks...  hypothetical that are anti rex are just fine to push.

I wasn't advocating one type of hypothetical over the other, just stating that you are the worst. That is fact, not nonsense.

Idzik sucked too. Everyone has sucked, from top to bottom. Keeping any of these jabronis would have been lunacy.
