Wish people would stop bringing up his name. He's not leaving Baltimore. It's a great organization, they're winning, he built that place up, he has all the scouts in place that he trusts, he has been declining every job interview for the last 10 years with other teams. He's not gonna leave now when Ozzie is about to retire next year so that some other guy can just come in and profit off of all the hard work he put in. It's just NOT happening. Move on.

This will be interesting because if you're DeCosta how long do you "wait" for

Ozzie Newsome to retire.  It doesn't seem like that's going to happen anytime

soon

He's already running their organization, he's calling the shots, he's the head of the scouting department. Ozzie doesn't do any of that, he listens to DeCosta, it's not the other way around. Ozzie doesn't do the same things he did 10 years ago, he's just hanging around there, waiting to retire so he can go run Alabama.

That's the thing, I don't think it's about money. Would you leave that place that you basically put together in terms of the scouting department etc. and join a new team that really struggled bigtime when it comes to drafting players, scouting etc. just because you can make more money? I sure as hell wouldn't. He's gonna be successful over there, and with success comes more money. He joins the Jets, makes a few bad picks and his career is likely over. Phil Savage went that route when he left the Ravens to join the Browns. At that time he was basically what DeCosta is now, everybody saw a genius in him. After a year or so in Cleveland he got fired and never got another job. He'd have to be stupid to leave Baltimore now, he's been waiting for the official GM title for like 5 years now. Ozzie is going leave in a year or two at the most. There's just no way he's accepting any other offer unless Ozzie told him he'll stick around for another 5 years or so. Plus the money thing didn't work with Harbaugh either.

it's not just about money but that helps. If you are risk averse, you look at the situation as you describe.. If you like risk/challange, you look at the Jets job and say if you succeed here you'll be a god damn legend.

One requirement of this GM job is handling the media- Idzik was a complete failure with that

New York Jets to Make Serious Push for Eric DeCosta

Eric DeCosta is the general manager in waiting for the Baltimore Ravens, and for years has been in line to succeed Ozzie Newsome. Every year, he is arguably the most coveted candidate, and every year, he rejects every team's overtures. Two years ago, he wouldn't even interview with the New York Jets. However, that hasn't stopped the team.

I'm not going to get my hopes up, but this is a swing for the fences. If Woody Johnson is willing to open up the purse strings and hand over full control to DeCosta, it's possible, but still unlikely. This would certainly be a move that would lend significant credibility to the team, and would be almost impossible for the media to criticize. Don't get your hopes up, but this would be awesome.

Newsome is 58. Could conceivably be the GM for another 10 years. Last time he showed interest in a position the Ravens gave him a huge salary bump. He could decline again - but maybe he is finally ready to go out there and try something new.

Too bad, they can't use Rex.

Ozzie and DeCosta brushed off Rex as a potential HC of the Ravens while he was their DC. Rex isn't as amazing as some think, particularly as a HC. He's a circus show that worked in NJ for a while. I don't care that the players love him, their love for Rex isn't displayed on the field week after week.

New York Jets request permission to talk to Eagles director of pro personnel Rick Mueller

According to a report by Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, the New York Jets have requested permission to interview Philadelphia Eaglesdirector of pro personnel Rick Mueller for their general manager vacancy. The Jets fired former general manager John Idzik, along with head coach Rex Ryan, on Monday.

After spending eight seasons in the Saints' personnel department, Mueller served as a general manager of the Omaha Nighthawks of the United Football League in 2010-2011. Mueller then joined the Eagles in 2012. He was promoted from player personnel executive to his current title earlier in 2014.

It is a little interesting to see that the Jets are interviewing Mueller and not vice president of player personnel Tom Gamble, who is thought to be a top GM candidatethis offseason. According to Les Bowen, however, the Jets interviewed Gamble last year and it did not go very well.

This will be something to keep an eye on moving forward.

Also, If I'm correct we lost every game that we played against the Ravens. So we lost to his former team and the guy who took the job that he wanted.
