greenwave81
look at john harbaughs resume prior to ravens HC Yeah, John Harbaugh's case is classic...for an organization that has some pretty good talent evaluators in administration like Ozzie. But you'd have to say he was the exception to the rule, and they surrounded him with NFL vets as coordinators with Rex and Cameron. Maybe the Jets convince MM to stay and the new GM finds him a serviceable QB and Quinn works out well...stranger things have happened.
The Troll
Well, this just can't be. Marrone is such an affable guy! Dumbass Woody must just be buying into the media hype! Thanks a lot, you hack writers!
Ex-Rex
Ian Rappaport reported that the Marrone interview did not go well, so we can all breathe a sigh of relief. The last thing I wanted was the anti-Rex in terms of media credibilty and that he was a disciplinarian to the nth degree and a micromanager. Nah. C Mart
Jets to interview Miami's Dir of Scouting Chris Grier tomorrow for GM. Grier was in Miami when Quinn was Miami's DL Coach 2007-08. Jets requested to interview Grier after meeting with Quinn. Grier's father worked with Casserly in Houston.

Jetman_67
Quinn? Eh. I want a coach with HC experience and he doesn't fit that bill. I think were making a mistake by not hiring a giy w HC wxperience. Also, is he really coaching those animals? Those fickers are blood thirsty savages! He might be sought after coach, but I'm not enamored cause I haven't really witnessed him out coach someone. Have I? I'm sorry, but that D is just a bunch of athletic freaks of nature, not coached up over acheivers. If that is the case, then Kirchner needs to be the New GM. He is as involved as anyone in talent acquisition.

Vinny16
Good to hear that the search has moved beyond Marrone. I was never sold on him as a candidate, no matter how much I tried to talk myself into it. Not sure about Quinn either, though. The idea of yet another DC being hired as a first time HC just doesn't sit well with me. We've been down that road several times before now and have nothing to show for it. Integrity28
I agree 100%. Thanks ape for letting us know. If he is smart, he will follow Cowher, Billichea, Gruden and the many respectable coaches throughout the year that had ignored us. But then again, he will be a first time coach, he doesn’t know any better, yet. Look at the ingratitude and hateful against Rex by some of our fans. Taking a team to two AFCC out of six seasons is a success for most coached, especially his first HC job with not a decent QB. Things didn’t work out but he brought good things to the Jets, was always loyal and proud to be a Jets. He was rewarded with loathe, hate, disdain, ridicule and mockery by some of our fans. Dan Quinn will be crazy to come in here, if he has multiple offer to deal with our fans and no QB in place; unless all the HC position get filled before Seattle is out of contention. Before you can achieve sarcasm, you must first achieve literacy.
kelticwizard
Were you around when Dick Young ran Tom Seaver out of town?? I was. The most famous Met ever and this famous, but crummy, sportswriter laid into him column after column because Seaver wanted a negotiation of an existing contract, (big contracts were just coming in). Finally Dick Young wrote that the reason Seaver wanted more money was because Seaver's wife was jealous of any pitcher's wife who makes more than her husband. Seaver couldn't take the remarks about his family and told the Mets he wanted out, period. Funny thing is, even today you have old time sportswriters claiming what a great guy and remarkable figure that a$$hole Dick Young was. Young must have bought the new sportswriters in town a lot of free drinks when they were just starting out because as a journalist he sucked balls. Integrity28
Sounds like Quinn a prima Donna? What is his claim to fame outside being Seattle DC with defense coach Carroll? No, it sounds like Quinn is not desperate and only willing to leave a GREAT situation in Seattle IF the opportunity completely aligns with what he wants for himself. Jets fans should appreciate this about the guy, because if he ends up here, he has set the tone right from the get-go that he is taking ownership of his fate, the details surrounding it and he's getting what he needs/wants to be successful. I would think these are strong qualities for a HC.

sourceworx
Unfortunately, he can only bring the assistants who are not under contract. So it may take him a season or two to get the guys he really wants here. That's probably the biggest issue with waiting for a coach on a playoff team to be available. Finding good assistant coaches will be much more difficult.

This is along the lines of what I've been saying that these interviews are about more than just finding a HC and GM, but I hadn't actually considered the angle of vetting candidate A, by by talking to candidate B. If that's what you're getting at.
