Top FA targets by Position

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000459436/article/2015-nfl-unrestricted-free-agents-by-position

*Note this isn't a "best free agents" ranking but rather the guys that would make most sense for us and are the most realistic targets...at least in my book. So no Dez Bryant, Demaryius Thomas or DeMarco Murray etc. for obvious reasons but who knows. Crazier things have happened.

*Added TE Daniel Fells.

QB:

1. Matt Moore

2. Colt McCoy

3. Jimmy Clausen / Brian Hoyer

RB: (Complementary to Ivory)

1. C.J. Spiller / Bilal Powell

WR: (Deep Threat)

1. Jeremy Maclin

2. Torrey Smith

3. Robert Meachem

4. Denarius Moore

TE: (Blocking Specialist)

1. Lee Smith

2. Daniel Fells

OG:

1. James Carpenter

2. Clint Boling

3. Mike Iupati

DE/OLB: (Edge Rushers)

1. Brian Orakpo

2. Justin Houston

3. Jason Worilds

4. Jabaal Sheard

5. Pernell McPhee

6. Sam Acho

ILB:

1. Lance Briggs / David Harris

2. Bruce Carter

3. Rolando McClain

4. Brandon Spikes

CB:

1. Kareem Jackson

2. Darrelle Revis

3. Perrish Cox

4. Byron Maxwell

5. Antonio Cromartie

Safety:

1. Devin McCourty

2. Nate Allen

Overall I really love the edge rushers that will be available this year. So many options. Orakpo, Houston & Worilds are all Pro Bowl type guys. And after that you still have good edge rushers available. Maybe even a JPP if he fits the system. Also, there are decent ILB options if we do lose Harris. At safety I want McCourty bad, we need a good centerfielder to let Pryor do his thing. Receiver is a great position as well, so many legit deep threats, maybe we can pick one up. At TE I went with a pure blocker because I have faith in Amaro, we don't need another receiver at that position. As for the O-Line, it would be awesome if we could bring in one of those 3 guards to take over for Big Willie, he's just too old and not good enough anymore, plus I can't stand his silly penalties each week.

There aren't any great options unless Peyton gets released or RG3 gets traded, but I really think Matt Moore can be a very solid starter in Chan's offense. Colt McCoy would also fit the system and looked pretty solid when he was thrown to the wolves, he came out of nowhere and wasn't expected to contribute at all. And Clausen looked excellent in Chicago when he filled in for Cutler. We could get by with those options.

I just realized the TE (Lee Smith) played under Chan in Buffalo's offense. So I'd expect us to go after him. It would be fantastic to finally have a blocking TE to help out Breno in pass protection and further improve our run blocking overall.

Yup, we haven't had an event decent blocking TE since Hartsock.   Alot of folks don't realize the benefit of having a TE that can serve as an additional OL for pass blocking, or run blocking.  Add this and shore up the guard position and that alone will improve this offense.  Throw in a half way decent QB and we'll be a heck of alot better than last year.

QB, What is your take on Jason Campbell, Who I think is better than all those you mentioned.

ILB Carter-  would be a good pick up at olb also.

SS McCourty-  is a excelent FS, but would get washed at SS

TE  Daniel Fells - would do just a good a job in-line and wil give you more in the passing game.

Fells is an interesting guy, a little older than I'd like but sounds like a good pickup as a blocker. McCourty was meant to be a centerfielder, don't mind the "SS" I put up there. As for Jason Campbell I don't think he's good enough to play or even be a decent backup. Plus he doesn't really fit our offense. He's a poor mans Michael Vick. At least from what I remember.

Pass rush, pass rush, pass rush!!!

Orakpo over Houston at the OLB spot? I haven't seen enough I guess but I really like Houston. What makes orakpo better?

Houston is definitely better but I think Orakpo is a more realistic target and would make more sense so that's why I have him ahead of Houston who is gonna make crazy amounts of money, not sure I want to go into a bidding war. I rather "settle" for Orakpo for less money, he's still a great pass rusher. Instead of getting a slightly better pass rusher for 100+ mil. or whatever he's gonna be looking for.

Nice list.  Figures that this year the OLB/DE market is stacked, and that at #6 the BPA might be a DE/OLB.

I don't think  Maclin goes anywhere. He has a hard on for Philly and has already said he wants to return. I don't mind keeping Harvin another year, even at his cap hit if we have the room for it. I could be wrong, but since there isn't any guaranteed money left, isn't his remaining deal more or less a series of one year team options? Just because we keep him in 2015 doesnt mean we can't cut him in 2016 if his attitude shows up. Restructuring him would clear some cap room, but it would also handcuff us a bit if we needed to cut him in the future.

We have more holes to fill than Tom Brady.

Is it just me, or does anyone else find it comical that a RT tackle making $6mm/year needs help from a TE to pass block?

Good news is jets have the $$$ and this time will be very aggressive in free agency. Time to go shopping. That said, even before fa, 1st move will be with harvin. Cap friendly deal at about half of what he is now making or good bye. Mike m. Will hate giving up the 4th pick though. There are 5 wrs better than harvin possibly available.... So no need to break bank. Bottom line, zero chance he is back on current contract.

Just curious, why would that be funny?

Not a knock on your post, knock on how bad and overpaid Giacomini is .The guy is brutal. Having to use cap space to get a TE that can block to protect an OT so he can do his job, and who by the way is being paid like an elite player at his possition, is horrible. The jets are cleaning house...Breno should be part of the process. You are probably correct in the use of the word comical...should have been pathetic.

You gotta understand, DaBallsack has no clue what an O-lineman's job is.

He thinks OTs are allowed to snooze after initial contact.

Check out his moronic "Brick literally IS a brick" thread where he made the most stupefying posts in IC chip history.

Did you know Brick the Whiff never misses blocks or gets beat? That's how closely DaBallsack watches football.

I'd love to get Foles, but I don't think Philly is going to trade him.

Fitz is probably the most realistic option for us. He's no superstar, but I've always kind of liked him.

As for other positions, I think Kareem Jackson is likely to be someone we pursue.

He and his son can help out with the Salary Cap and contracts

Got it. But that's what blocking TE's and 3rd down backs are there for, to help in pass protection, doesn't matter how good of a tackle you are, you need help at times. You can't block Dumervil/Suggs 1 on 1. You can't block Houston/Hali 1 on 1. You can't block Watt 1 on 1. You can't block Wilkerson/Richardson 1 on 1. And blocking TE's hardly make any money so that shouldn't be an issue.  :winking0001:

Fair points. Just really do not like Breno.

Foles is garbage. One year wonder in Kelly's offense who would be horrible here

I don't either, he's below average in pass protection. It doesn't take a Watt type player to beat him but unfortunately after we "lost" Austin Howard this was sort of the best thing available to plug that hole at RT.

I agree and I like Iupati number one to replace him. As far as edge rushers go I would have to wait and see if Bowles goes 4-3 (as expected) or 3-4. In a 4-3 Quinton Coples may be as good as any of those others as might Wilkerson. They aren't speed guys but a lot can be said for power and a good motor. I wouldn't touch any of the QB's listed as I doubt Miami is going to let Moore walk and Cleveland needs Hoyer since Manziel is just pissing everyone off there. Washington will keep McCoy as he appears to be Gruden's favorite. OL and CB are the two positions the Jets can help themselves at in free agency and you forgot to list Patrick Peterson who is my favorite among potential CB's.

Fitzpatrick is Mark Sanchez in disguise. Turnover machine par excellence. Hate that guy.
