jmat321
As long as they keep him away from the war room on draft day, contract negotiations, offensive quality control and football in general, should work out OK.
sirlancemehlot
Idzik got a raw deal here. Started out in cap hell, left us with one of the richest caps in the league. Had a plan he wasn't able to institute because he was cut short. Never got to hire his own coach. His plan was to save money to put the team in a positive financial state which could lead to long-term success. he also managed FA's to maximize comp picks and build through the draft to the tune of 12 draft picks. Idzik got Rex'd. Nobody wanted to blame the true culprit. Three Offensive coordinators, two defensive coordinators and two General Managers all got canned under Rex's tenure and the team still ended up with three wins. Idzik will make an excellent consultant.
Warfish
So neither Idzik nor Rex went very long unemployed. I refuse to cry for Idzik, but +1 for the post above me. Yeah, what he showed wasn't great, but it wasn't exactly much time either for an NFL GM, and the limits (keeping Rex, for example) were debilitating to any chance of success. In a team altering draft year he simply whiffed on some mid round picks. However I agree with all the rest. Our new guy gets a fresh coach, a ton of cap space and flexilbity, even with the Harvin thing to be settled.

He should've canned Rex and Tanny or gave them both one more year. Forcing a coach on a GM is the reason why weren't able to land top GM candidates i the first year. However Idzik took the job with a full understanding of what the deal was and failed. 12 draft picks and basically ended up with a mediocre Safety, a promising but still raw Tight end and a lot of injuries. He proved he was in over his head in talent evaluation. The cap situation Idzik inherited was not good but it an was easy fix, anyone with a decent amount of football knowledge knew what players needed to go or get restructured he just didn't do a good job on the talent evaluation. On the plus side, at least he didn't overspend to try and save his job and did leave our new regime with a good situation.

I'd agree except for his record on things like not hedging his bets on Geno last off season as well as deciding Harvin was a good move when the season was toast already. Had he signed Desean Jackson prior to last season I'd be willing to give him a mulligan on his draft record. You also had Sanchez screaming at Idzik and not Rex for being behind that 3rd string line in the Snoopy Bowl so yeah.....Idzik needed to go. Anyone of us could have "cleared CAP space" in the way he did.
