Jaguars to hire John Idzik

Morrissey

Idzk did well for himself.

Jaguars fans couldn't afford 1 billboard never mind banner toting planes circling the stadium like vultures.

Lots of Alligators in them thar parts!!

He better watch out... fans invite him to a golf outing, Idzik shanks one into the water and BAM! No more Idzik.

Cheaper than Billboards and flying banners.

Idzik got a raw deal here. Started out in cap hell, left us with one of the richest caps in the league. Had a plan he wasn't able to institute because he was cut short. Never got to hire his own coach. His plan was to save money to put the team in a positive financial state which could lead to long-term success. he also managed FA's to maximize comp picks and build through the draft to the tune of 12 draft picks. Idzik got Rex'd. Nobody wanted to blame the true culprit. Three Offensive coordinators, two defensive coordinators and two General Managers all got canned under Rex's tenure and the team still ended up with three wins. Idzik will make an excellent consultant.

Bullcrap.

Idzik had 2 drafts and hit one very good player, traded for Chris Ivory, and found a one-dimensional part time TE with questioable hands. And that is the good.

Everything else he did in the draft and free agency ranged from OK to downright atrocious.

He sunk himself. 2014 might go down as the worst draft in Jet history.

Great post.  Not saying Idzik did a great job but it wasn't nearly as bad as people made him out to be.  Rex set up Idzik to be the scapegoat in order to land another job.

yeah he had a lot of picks and how exactly did that turn out ?

Two good FA signing in Ivory and Decker

Bottom line is he's a Cap guy not a talent evaluator ... that much was evident when this team needed WR's in a WR rich draft and he whiffed

About the only real good thing he did here was manage the cap back to where it needed to be I'm just glad he's not the guy spending the 50 mil

the only positive thing idzik did was leaving us a ton of cap space. He had 19 picks the past two years and only richardson is an impact player. The guy simply isnt a gm or a talent evaluator

Who had a good draft last year, percentage wise?

The feeling everyone had was that he threw away an entire season to get "his guy" and wasted a boat load of picks by over drafting players that he cut by mid-season. I don't ever want to hear that the scarecrow looking mother f*cker got a raw deal here ever again. Both of those failed abortions got what they deserved and they are both 110% at fault for last year.

honestly Tom I don't really care ...If we didn't have a good draft that's all that counts IMO. Drafts are usually graded 3 + years after the fact but a lot of the players that Idizk drafted are already gone or just terrible

Yeah, what he showed wasn't great, but it wasn't exactly much time either for an NFL GM, and the limits (keeping Rex, for example) were debilitating to any chance of success.

the roster he built was debilitating

this is a man who went all in on Geno Smith

GENO. SMITH.

All in. Right. He dropped a whole second-round pick on him and then didn't add a pointless lateral option and then he got fired. There isn't even any real evidence that Idzik thought Geno was particularly good. This notion you have that he was some sort of zealot on the subject is just pulled from thin air.

A lot of different things happened in Idzik's tenure and while he was stuck with Rex he could have made last season far more enjoyable with at least twice the number of victories at least by spending money on Revis - who all but begged to come back - and Emmanuel Sanders. Had the money to really make a splash and give the fans a team that could have competed. That failure is why he is a "consultant" to Jacksonville.

Pay for Revis, win 6 or 7 games, then what?  Revis is a final piece.  A mercenary.

So we could be sitting here today talking about giving a 30 year-old Revis a giant new contract that we know he's going to renege on? And Sanders wasn't coming here. Dude was going to Denver the second he hit free agency.

If Mariotta is there at 6 and we can't get the blockbuster done with Philly, I'd be fine with swapping spots with Cleveland and picking up another pick. Or at least I'd make sure Chip knew that.

Idzik martyred himself to save us from twenty years of Rex. We should honor him as the hero he is in Jets lore.

He did & I don't think it was an accident. Woody put on this whole sham because there is no way in hell that in NY you can just come out & say "In 2014 we are going to close the checkbook, maximize our salary cap space for 2015 when we start all over with a new GM & coach".

Without a chance in the world of a playoff spot we still had fans that wanted to spend 10 million on DRC?

Might be the 1st time in Jets history that Woody actually tried to suck for the benefit of our future.

Jets will be the surprise team in 2015.

Sign a secondary, get a pass rushing OLB, draft some offense, and watch our Dline kill a few QBs after they try to run because their intended target is covered.

Geno stops turning the ball over because if he doesn't he watches from the bench with the quick hook.

There's a new boss in town & we shall nickname him the quiet assassin.

In Bowles I trust.

Leadership is a difficult thing.  I get the impression that John Idzik was not much of a leader but that he was something of a competent manager at least in areas where he possessed specialization.

Idzik has experience, may have learned from his mistakes, and the Jaguars could presumably do worse as far as consultants are concerned.

No truer words have ever been spoken on any message board, ever, sports, politics, you name it, never!!!!

John Idzik is a God, by far my favorite Jets GM of all time.

I am so glad he did a great job, and is gone far, far away from the Jets now that his work has been done.
