Integrity28
As I skim each position group, then look at our situation on offense... I came away with some fleeting thoughts: QB via trade. QB options are weak, but it's an obvious need for us - unless we roll the dice with a guy like Hoyer, Moore or TJ Yates to compete with Geno, it is easy to make the case for trading for a QB or drafting one. At this point, I imagine MacG and Bowles have to be looking at this as a means of getting a signal caller in here. Draft a RB. RB options have a lot of wear on them. The Spiller connection has been beaten to death. Reggie Bush might actually better if we want that "great in space change of pace" type of RB for Gailey's system. Another good under-the-radar signing might be Knowshon Moreno, but I'm sticking to my guns that a RB in this draft is a no-brainer. Sign and draft at last 2 WRs. I think it would be a fail if we didn't add at least one of those top 4 WRs (if they don't all end up franchise tagged). Even still, guys like Harry Douglas or Cecil Shorts make our corps better than it is now. Imagine if we end up with Decker, Shorts, Amari Cooper, Kerley and whoever else in Gailey's spread offense? Sign a TE. Amaro will be good, but we need diversity at that position. Clay, Fasano, Housler, Gresham... there's a lot of solid TE's in this group that can be added to the mix, and I'll say it for those who love this clarification "for the right price", lol Buy and offensive line. We'd be nuts not to add at least 2 offensive linemen at of this free agency group of OT and OGs. With a dominant line and playmakers all over the field, we might actually be able to hide a mediocre QB by overcompensating all over the rest of the offense. I'll maybe have some defensive thoughts later... but the offense is where I feel the most "fixing" needs to occur. Thank goodness we've got all that cap space. CrazyCarl40
How far has Matt Flynn fallen? Damn. Also, Roy Helu would be perfect as a Jet. Young, low mileage, awesome pass catcher out of the backfield. Cecil Shorts might come cheaply because of his injury history. They should have a look at him. He'd be an upgrade on the outside. Integrity28
Actually, on quick glance there's enough quality at CB and S where we can sign 2-3 new starters and completely rebuild our secondary. With no sure thing on the roster and Kyle Wilson going away, we've got an empty cupboard. How nice would a pair of guys from Maxwell, Kareem Jackons, Brandon Flowers, and Tramon Williams, with a safety like McCourty or Antrel Rolle, look? So, long story short I think the big areas to spend are offensive line and secondary. It's what we need, and where there is good quality on supply via FA. We trade for a QB. We swap-in, swap-out some parts in the defensive front-7, and we look to the draft for offensive playmakers.

Integrity28
Safe to say it's going to be an exciting Free Agency. Without question. We actually don't have the surplus of draft picks we had last year, so treating FA this year as an opportunity to bolster the nucleus of this team is going to be foundational to any success Bowles and Mac have here. pointman
Hasselbeck is still in the league? Holy crap. And give me Maxwell, Cromartie, and LaRon Landry. Acho at LB. Hoyer at QB, Spiller at RB, draft a WR and pick up a couple of has beens like Stevie Johnson and glue Austin's leg together. And bring in Welker so we can have him go over the middle and get decapitated. I'm happy.

drdetroit
Iupati, Culliver, Maxwell, Acho, Fasano and Stevie Johnson or Michael Crabtree. Jimmy Clausen to a cheap 1-year deal. I thought he looked good in limited action last year and he is more talented than the Matt Moores and Jake Lockers.

SenorGato
Antel Rolle as a veteran FA signing. Same for Weatherspoon, who would replace Harris inside. Rolle is a much easier fit, so mostly that one. Maxwell and Skrine since we know that the Jets are too pussy to sign Revis and Maxwell or Skrine. Chris Cook might be worth a look too. I'd like to keep Ellis and want Houston on the roster bad. Green or Clay at TE. Still like Spiller here too, especially with an impact interior OL signing.

KRL
Another thing to keep in mind with free agency coming up there are very few people you can trust with all of the rumors/tweets that will be floating around. Outside of Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport who seem to have real sources in the league everyone else is really dubious. Particularly the local NY media clowns, they were an absolute joke last year in getting real info

I actually think that should be our free agent priority. So much talent about to hit the market. And one question for anyone. What happened to LaRon Laundry? I thought he was cut simply because he was given an absurd contract and he was a cap casualty. But is he really being considered worse than his brother now? Laundry and Pryor would be an interesting hard hitting duo.
JustInFudge
Great names on these lists. The Jets should be able to significantly upgrade the talent level as long as they have a GM who can close a deal and draft.

Beerfish
Lots to choose from that is for sure: Jake Locker Shane Vereen Torrey Smith Jordan Cameron Mike Iupati James Carpenter Jerry Hughes Rey Mauluga Tramon Willams Antonio Cromartie Kareem Jackson
prime21
As I read yesterday, with V.JAckson staying in Tampa for 9.777 mil and a 12.2 mil cap hit, that affects the market significantly. Why would Percy want less than 10 from the Jets? He may take less buy play for a better QB. Cobb, Maclin and T.Smith should be asking for similar money too. patman
For the jets I will pick on premium player and one backup/spot starter and What I think it will take to sign them all contracts are 30% SB or guaranteed money QB, no premium player, the guy I would go with is Jason Campbell, A solid vet that played in many schemes. If Geno fails he will not be an embarrassment, and would act as a good mentor if a rookie is brought in. 3years, 5mill total with incentives based on games started. RB- Reggie Bush 3 years 9 mill Helu - 1.5 mill WR- Steve Johnson 3 years 18 mil Mike Williams 1 year 2mill TE Jordan Cameron 1 year 5 mill Daniel Fells 1 year 2 mill (him and smith are the best blocking TE) G Iupati 6 years 54 mill Connolly 1 year 2 mill (can also play center) T done thru the draft, Parnell has value Edge rusher- Greg Hardy 4 years 48 mill. - contract for the following year is guaranteed based on previous year every March 1st. 4mill SB Brooks Reed 3 years 8 mill CB ( Maxwell to Atlanta or jacksonville) Cro - 2 years 7 mill Kareem Jackson 5 years 30 mill, Perrsih Cox 2 years 6 mill FS McCourty 5 years 40 mill (less than Berry, Thomas, and Byrd, more than Weddel) Searcy 3 years 12 mill 50 mill in FA. C Mart
@TonyPauline: Keep this in mind; NY Jets linebacker search in free agency could end with Brooks Reed, a player GM Mike Maccagnan is very familiar with
19andOhWait
why would anyone want to sign Jake Locker?
SenorGato
I've never liked Brooks Reed, but am interested if he can play ILB AND OLB.

CrazyCarl40
why would anyone want to sign Jake Locker? Because literally anyone else is better than what the current Jets QB situation is.

Jet9
figured this was as good a thread as any to post it in... John McClain @McClain_on_NFL Texans gave Andre Johnson permission to seek a trade. Told him he'd have a reduced role next season. He asked to be traded or cut instead.
