Signing Revis at 16 Million this year instead of 12 Million last year

If you signed him last year to what New England did then we would have been a little better last year and he would be costing us 20 mil this year and 24 mil against the cap...

We could have has him for a 7th last year and the Tampa vontract

Smart move!

Great thread!!  If you are joking then hahaha funny. If not then what do you think we would be paying him this year if we signed him to a 1 year deal last year? He was coming off an injury in which he was not 100% with TB. They took a shot at 12 million and he was back to old revis. Do you think he would have given the Jets a discount this year if they signed him last year? Please explain yourself and let me know you aren't as stupid as you appear to be.

The cornerback market was down last year. Look at the deals that got done compared to the year before. Now the cap is up and teams are against the floor and it's a seller's market. 16M now is relatively speaking a better deal than 12M last year.

The CB market is 33% higher this year?

Not to mention Revis helped the Pats win a SB, and he's a year older now

He wasn't signing a 1 year 12 million dollar deal with us. He got the exposure he needed to clean up in FA this year by playing for a high profile winning team. Honestly he wanted 16 mil a year when we let him go. We wound up with Sheldon Richardson and with the inflation of the cap we're paying him a smaller percentage than that 16 mil had we given it to him then. I'm looking at this like a 3 year deal and our secondary was so bad last year I gotta love it.

Revis signed a two year 32 mil deal with NE = 16 per year

he signed a five year 70 mil deal with us = 14 per year

whats so hard?

The same people bashing us paying Revis are the same people who LOVED the Dmitri Patterson signing.

Amateur capologists

No it's more like Revis was 25% less open market value last year coming off not playing in 2012 and not playing great in 2013 in Tampa.

You guys are a bunch of mini-Idzik's

Yes. The market factors affecting the price of elite NFL talent produce outcomes that are rational and perfectly linear. Even if you are for some reason arbitrarily comparing the value of a multiyear deal to a one-year deal using the first-year guarantee.

Didn't the go cap go up 15%?

I wasn't the one that arbitrarily suggested it was better value.. Where's your math brah

Revis is one helluva business man. He has gotten to free agency what like 4 times in a 7 year career? his agents earning their money. brilliant actually.

Exactly.  Last year we had the upper hand against him.  He was actually begging to come back to play for us.  We let him go because our owner could not distinguish when his GM was trying to sabotage his team for his own gain.

I said it was better value relative to and because of the market. 16 vs. 12 is the OP's formulation. And really, you're editing now? If you need two tries to pull off dumb on purpose maybe the effort isn't really necessary in the first place.

He is saying you could have given a 7th to tampa and assumed a 16mill a year contract with no gurantees, instead you sign him one year older and with 40mill of guarantees.

What is so hard?
