Why wouldn't the Bucs want Rivers?

Recommended Posts

It's still a one-year rental which would cost a 1st round pick and more.

Sorry, the trade would need to be contingent on Rivers signing a long term deal - 4 years+, Rivers on a one year rental, I would pass.

The Bucs are on the clock right now. The trade would have likely happened already so they could reset their board and be ready for draft day.

It takes 2 teams to make a trade happen. You act like Tampa has been offered Rivers and they just said no we want one of the rookies instead. The Chargers have to come up with a decent offer first. They have to be willing to trade Rivers. Both things likely won't happen. They're not gonna be willing to trade Rivers, and they sure as hell won't pay whatever it takes to get that #1 pick. Especially not considering they're more likely to pick Mariota, who could fall. It just makes no sense for them to trade up to #1. If they really wanted to trade Rivers, if they really wanted Mariota, they would be negotiating with the Titans for the #2 pick. But again, there's no way they trade Rivers. He's under contract for this year and they can tag him next year. So he's locked up for 2 years. They have no reason whatsoever to trade him now, and Rivers has no leverage to force a trade. And from what I've heard they're alreading working on a new contract with Rivers.

FYI - Lovie Smith is not a second year HC.

He benched Matt Sims for Josh Mc-suck. All that needs to happen is for the Bucs to draft Winston and him screw up and Lovie will never have a job again in the NFL as a headcoach.

I am starting to get your joke, but Simms has two "m"s.

Anyone including Tampa can go ahead and just select Mariota with the first pick before Tennesee. So that makes zero sense.

You all think the Panthers will commit to Cam long term?

Can they afford not to?  So damn hard to find a good QB in this league....or maybe it just feels that way as a Jets fan.

Because it's better to have a franchise QB for 15 years instead of 5?

Sure, if that's the choice. But that isn't the choice.

As of now, the choice is a franchise QB for 5 years, or this year's highest ranked QB prospect, who may or may not become a worthy franchise QB (and for an unknown span of time even if he seems to start out decently, like Josh Freeman did for them not so long ago).
