There we goooo, still preferred strong.

You already have him. His name is Marshall. Smith fills the need for speed.  Best Deep threat in College Football.

Sounds like a Dedrick Ward

Sounds like a Dedrick Ward

Bigger, better athlete than Dedrick Ward.  Was one of the best if not the best deep threat in college football.

DRAFT ANALYSIS:

"I like this pick. This guy tracks the football deep as well as any wide receiver in this draft. He has 4.4 speed. It seemed like every catch he made this year was for a touchdown." -- Mike Mayock

  • 6'0"HEIGHT
  • 31"ARM LENGTH
  • 196LBS.WEIGHT
  • 9"HANDS
OVERVIEW

2014: Honorable mention All-Big Ten. Played in all 15 games with 11 starts. Led team with 931 yards

and 12 TD. Had 4 receptions, 137 yards, 3 TD vs Wisconsin in Big Ten Championship Game. Had 2 receptions, 87 yards, TD in Sugar Bowl vs Alabama. 2013: Honorable mention All-Big Ten. Played in all 14 games with 12 starts. 2012: Played in all 12 games with 10 starts. 2011: Played in all 13 games.

PRO DAY RESULTS
Three-cone drill: 6.83 seconds

ANALYSIS STRENGTHS

Smooth speed merchant with instant gas off the line. Has outstanding body composure and an effortless stride. Electrifying foot quickness. Game-breaking speed with necessary feel of a downfield receiver. Tracks the throw over his shoulder and never breaks stride in the chase. Averaged 28.2 yards per catch and 54.5 percent of his catches were for 25-plus yards in 2014. Used outside and from slot. Must be matched by speed on defense or with safety over the top. Uses shoulder dip from inside release to avoid being redirected by slot corner. Speed creates uncontested targets for him underneath. Can snap off dig routes and open immediately. Good luck giving chase to Smith on a crosser or speed-out in the red zone. Might have been the best gunner in college football.

WEAKNESSES  Lacks natural, soft hands. Will double catch and corral throws into body. Tries to catch, turn and run before securing the throw. Shows a lack of patience in his routes. Game too heavily reliant upon speed. Must learn to be effective when deep ball is restricted by defense. Thin hips and frame. Play strength is below average. Can be frustrated by physical corners. Gets jostled and distracted when bodied hard down the field. Desire lacking as run blocker. Often taken off field and replaced when Buckeyes wanted to run out of "11" personnel.

DRAFT PROJECTION  Round 2

NFL COMPARISON  DeSean Jackson

BOTTOM LINE

Smith isn't just combine-fast, he's game-fast and he would have had more than 12 touchdown catches during the 2014 season if he didn't have to slow down and wait on throws so often. Smith has the feet and hips to become much more than a deep-ball specialist and should be able to step right into a gunner spot on special teams. He still needs to learn his craft and improve his hands, but he has rare speed to score from anywhere on the field.

Yea, but I wanted the one who's ten years younger and without psychiatric comorbidities.

Marshall is fine and will be playing at a high level for another 2-3 years.  I have no clue what comord.... or what ever the hell you are saying.

Marshall has his situation under control and as not had a problem since his time in Miami.  Smith adds something we haven't had since Santana Moss.

He's a T Smith clone. A deep threat and nothing else. He's the anti A Cooper, bad routes bad breaks out of his routes.

I guess it's worth a shot he could be another OBJ or close to it. But I'd rather have went somewhere else with the pick

Just can't please everybody.....

Your post that's 1000 lines long

Sweeet Jeeesus,  why do people on this board feel the necessity to tell me who I would have liked to draft? I'm well aware of our roster, but I still preferred Strong.

Dude you can prefer who ever you want.  Sorry, don't get your panties in a bunch.

Yeah, not really comparing but 33 receptions as senior...just made me stop for a second I guess.  Definitely night and day players.  Its easy to see that.

The good news is he is not expected to come in and start as we have Marshall and Decker (perhaps Kerley) starting ahead of him at least to start the season. We can be bring him along slowly and work on his route running and learning the offense.

Lol apparently I cannot.

Sure you can; but why not at least appreciate who we did draft?  I mean we didn't draft Strong; no point in belaboring the point, is it?

Any fan who isnt ecstatic with our draft so far really must like being negative for the hell of it

I totally agree.  Folks complaining because we didn't draft "their guy".   Meanwhile we add one of the missing pieces that can make this offense truly explosive; smh.

Yeah, now Shaq and Enunwa must REALLY work their asses off to earn a roster spot.

Enunwa is already looking good; I think he has the leg up on Shaq so far....

Someone tell me how the 49ers could pass over Strong, given that Crabtree is gone and Boldin is getting long in the tooth.  Kaep and Strong would have been a hell of a combination.  The organization is clueless.

Niners have had a bad draft IMO. Have gone with two raw picks

Exactly. How the hell do they pass on Strong?????

Hey, as long as one of them can become something for us, I'll be happy.

Agreed....

Wrong but nice job jumping to conclusions. He wasn't asked to run many route trees but doesn't mean he isn't capable.    He has much more potential then Torrey Smith who isn't exactly a slouch and who lot of folks wanted us to sign as a FA.

The reason I prefer Smith to Strong is because the Jets need speed. Period And Smith is faster than Strong. Strong is good as a red zone threat.

Jets have that already

Exactly.  Strong is a beast, no doubt about it but he would have been redundant on the Jets.

Our remaining needs - OL, RB, OLB/Edge Rusher.   Interested to see who we take next....

Ronald Darby to the Bills - Guy sounds like a faster more athletic Kyle Wilson... e.g. no ball skills.

Not jumping to conclusions, saw everyone of his games.

And yes if he turns into t smith, he's well worth the pick

Cool. I believe he will continue to improve as a route runner and his best football is ahead of him.  I think his ceiling is higher T. Smith but if he can have similar production I will take it.

That's exactly what I was thinking. "Struggles with his back to the Quarterback"

We are all on the same page. This guy is going to get beat like a drum.....

Harold to 49ers....

All due respect, I think Mac has earned my trust at this point and while we all were on the Eli Harold bandwagon, this guy Mauldin doesn't exactly sound like a slouch so maybe we should chill out a little.  We got our edge rusher and also have a 5th and 7th rounder to go with our 4th and 2 7th round picks.  Relax guys it is all working out.

he's a pass rusher who runs a 4.88  40     stupid pick

Did you know Terrell Suggs was slower than that?  40 times are irrelevant for pass rushers.

How the hell did we pass on Duke Johnson? Man, what?

Because there are like a dozen more backs still available and we can grab one tomorrow.

Non-stop motor, high character, built for 3-4 OLB... this is exactly the type of guy Mac was talking about when he referenced always having those 3-4 OLBs in the developmental pipeline.

Just got finished looking at some videos; guys this dude looks like a BEAST.  He is has great size at 6'4 260 and plays with some serious intensity.  He also played against some top nice competition.  I am getting more and more stoked about this pick. Our defense is going to be a SICK.

The Jets got them a stud in the 3rd round......and they got two xtra picks and a player. The Jets have arrived as an organization.

THIS.

An emotional Lorenzo Mauldin: "This is my chance. I'm going to work hard. I'm going to work harder than hard." #nyj

Now if you hate this pick after reading this, you have no heart and you can go to hell

Some folks are gonna hate regardless; I say **** 'em.  We just drafted a true DOG for our LB corp.  I hope his fire and intensity is contagious and especially rubs off on Coples.

Why are people in love with Strong and Harold, Wasnt impressed by Strong's tape. Didn't show speed to me.

As for Harold, the main difference I could see between him and Mauldin is that Mauldin had a lot more strip sacks which is a key skill.

Also one of the knocks on Harold is he wasn't as productive as a guy with his abilities should have been.  Well I don't think the same can be said about Maudlin; they guy seems to going at 100 miles an hour.   We don't need another Coples personality.   With Maudlin and Williams we just drafted to guys that play with FIRE and INTENSITY.

But the pros do get it wrong ALOT and sometimes we get it right.

I am entitled to speak my opinion without being told to pipe down or that I'm unstable or less intelligent than you ( of all people)

If you want to dik ride the new regime that's up to you, just like I can question it

Dude not for nothing, but..... when is the last time you got laid?  You are WAY to tense....  Can you at least wait until they get on the field before you have bust an artery?
