PatsFanTX
At his post draft news conference Bowles said he will still employ primarily a 3-4 defense. The guy in the middle needs to be a big run stuffing space eater like Damon Harison. So help me out here the Jets will run a 3-4 defense most of the time which will require Damon Harrison in the middle. So how exactly does Mohamed Wilkerson, Sheldon Richardson, and Leonard Williams all play on a defense that is primarily a 3-4? WTF is going on? Doesn't matter. Play a 3-4 and the Jets will have a great rotational DLine. Play a 4-3 and they will all be on the field at the same time. Bowles now has outstanding flexibility in whatever direction he wants to go. Fans get too caught up in what "base" defense they are playing and why.

BB's biggest innovation IMO (other than employing technology in his elaborate cheating schemes, of course) is his counter-punchers mentality when it comes to defensive game planning. It's hard to prepare to play the Pats when they have good defensive talent because you never quite know what you are going to face because Belichick is not married to any specific scheme. Williams gives the Jets a ridiculous amount of flexibility.
Sperm Edwards
Having great players is not a problem Ultimately I think this is why they took him. Maccagnan wasn't mindlessly unaware of the Jets' roster makeup on 4/29/2015, nor the HC's preferred number of down linemen.
Jetsfan80
In the draft thread, my good buddy HessStation posted an article that explains how you, not a generalize "you" meaning "people like you" or "people with the same opinion as you", but you specifically are wrong. This should shut up a lot of detractors.
drdetroit
curious if anyone knows what the difference between the Rex 3-4 and Bowles 3-4 ? Rex used more 46 Bear alignment. I imagine Bowles will too we have too many good d-line players.
Lupz27
Five. Unless you really want to call Coples a linebacker. The new 5-0-6 formation, love it, no LB's covering eligible recievers, and with Revis you can send 5, or 6 and either play double on WR 1, or cover zero with a blitzing DB, not to mention in a zone blitz scheme, Mo, Sheldon, and Coples all are capable of fake rushing and drop back into short middle coverage while blitzing multiple DB's confusing offenses while the DB's come in untouched. So many options for Bowles to run any kinda of D ever played plus invent some more, gonna be a fun year watching this Defense.

That is why they run a multi-billion $ operation and you just type behind a keyboard. Don't worry about it and let the pro's handle it. Besides, there are several other threads actually explaining how it can be done. Heavy rotation and 5-1-5 formations.
