youre believing Rex? Rex has no idea how evaluate talent. That was glaringly obvious after his tenure. Youre  talking about a dude that put you through Sanchez and Geno and youre all like he's right? Good one.

Rex took this team to 2 afc championship games something no other Jets coach has ever done. Let's not act like you know more about football than he does. Also Rex stuck with Sanchez and Geno because the GM failed to bring in competent backups.

Either way, the new GM/Coach clearly agree with Rex's evaluation of Simms......

Do we usually keep a practice squad QB or not necessarily?

Just wondering if Heaps somehow sticks around.

Either Heaps beat him out or they're being nice to give him a chance somewhere else.

Kind of interesting that Heaps has made it through 2 hurdles so far. He was signed as a tryout and now Simms is released ahead of him which implies they at least see something in Heaps. Wouldn't that be a headline: "UDFA to get nod at QB for Jets". Hey, it has happened before.

I don't know if it has anything to do with Heaps (other than he is PS eligible).  I would imagine this was the plan from the start.  Petty was getting the #3; since they moved up (1 spot) to draft him it is clear that the Jets have faith in him and that they perceived interest.  He would also have to be released to be added to the practice squad, and surely someone would snap him up as a #3.

That leaves Simms as only training camp fodder; and why not go with your own guy who, if you like him, can go on your practice squad?

No we got to 2 AFC Championship games in SPITE of Rex for the most part.

Nice of them to do it now so he can find a team.

I don't think Pro Players can go back to play college again, but him "on another team" is a kind thought.

Please stop. He's not getting any "nods". He's a #4 Camp QB.

Simms, looking for a better opportunity, reluctantly asked the Jets to cut him loose, affording him the chance to look for another team before next month's minicamps. There could be some teams already interested, perhaps in the AFC East. First, he’s subject to waivers.

Too bad. Would have enjoyed another crazy conspiracy theory from his brother. The Simms legacy lives on.

When Rex was asked last year about benching an inept Geno for Simms he literally chuckled. If that didn't tell Jet fans all they needed to know about Matt Simms abilities this move just did.

Simms greatest attribute was having the last name of a former solid NFL QB.

Rex on Vernon Gholston:

"He's going to be an excellent player, I really think that," Ryan said.

Simms requested his release per Seth Walder.

Seems kind of like when he ran out on Louisville because he was afraid to compete with the immortal Adam Froman.
