Geno Smith Punched by IK, out 6-10 weeks. All discussion here (MERGED)

Recommended Posts

it's not that i'm excited geno is out. it's just that looking at the 2 qbs objectively, fitz in gailey's system isn't much difference from geno in this system. the jets can still start the season 2-2, they play home vs cleveland and phily and miami in london. they have weapons to help fitz out and the defense is still stacked.

If Training Camp has been any indicator, yeah theres actually a huge difference between the two in the same system.

one has to wonder why Geno Smith would curse out the home fans and flip them the bird

one also has to wonder why Geno Smith missed all the meetings in San Diego and still got to start (they got blown out)

I've had enough of the Geno Smith show. He's a terrible terrible QB.

One has to wonder if you could atleast report the facts if your gonna slander somebody . Notice Giats fan

Zapata, who happens to be a New York Giants fan, says he regrets heckling Smith and doesn’t think the quarterback should be fined.

“I feel bad because, you know what? I didn’t think it would be this,” he said. “It’s a first offense. It was a tough game. There’s so much going on in the NFL already. This is such a little, stupid thing.”

So you obviously do not support the new coaching staff and front office.  You must think they're idiots, right?

So you obviously think that the new coaching staff wanted Geno over all of the other 31 starting QB's in the league? They had no choice besides Geno. This was a one year tryout for him.

shouldn't you be worried about how Ryan tannehill will choke away another playoff spot?  why are you in here trying to rub salt in the wound?

Oh stop it junc. I'm just taking part int he convo about it. You gotta admit it's ridiculous. I went through tons of bully gate stuff the last couple of years. lol. Stuff happens.

what has he done in his career to inspire any confidence?

A question Geno Smith fans should, if honest, have been asking themselves.

What part of "worst QB in the NFL his first two years" is hard to grasp.

We didn't lose Dan Marino in his prime, we lost a bust draft pick going into his last-chance third year.

We'll be fine.  Maybe we'll even get real lucky and not have three INT's on opening day.

This is pretty sad news.  Sorry Jets' fans.  I don't believe anyone wants to see injuries.

No one wants to see injuries, but the AFC East just got a little more competitive today so I'd be concerned if I were you.

Geno wasn't taking us anywhere; Fitzpatrick might.  Big difference.

It is a shame when an opposing teams fan has more sympathy for an injured player than that own teams fans.  Thanks for being classy Jeaniec.

Matt Flynn has to be it right?

I'm thinking Tyler Thigpen.  Thigpen has familiarity with Chan Gailey when Chan was the Chiefs' OC in 2008.  Thigpen had 18 TD's and 12 INT's that year in Chan's system.  It was his last season as a starting QB.  He was also a backup for the Bills under Gailey in 2011 and 12.  Not to mention, he also was on the Dolphins in 2010, when Todd Bowles was the secondary coach and just 1 year away from being named the Miami interim HC.

He's terrible but at this late stage, you at least need someone who wouldn't need a lot of time to get up to speed.

fitz will be ready, he knows the system cold.  he's got good weapons and a good defense.  and geno will miss a month and return after the bye if he's needed.  the jets can do well in september.  and petty will get more reps, thursday night should be interesting.

No no no.  This isn't a discussion of hypotheticals.  This is the minions of Jets fans coming out of the woodwork saying that Geno being out is a blessing for the Jets since Fitzpatrick is better anyway in their eyes.  So if you really believe that, then you absolutely have to admit you think Bowles, Gailey, and Mac are idiots.

But Geno has been young and developing.  Fitz is old and fully developed.  Fitz has had his chance and failed.  geno is till an unknown, this year was the first year he'd have top half weapons in this league.

You should ignore every NFL scout, coach and GM then because everyone has gotten at least 10 prospect evals wrong

There's a huge difference between liking a prospect before the draft and defending flaming bags of dog sh*t for far too long.

IK Enemkpali is a hero. What I dream of every day he went out and did. I'm a dreamer he's a doer and God dam if I don't respect him for that

LOL but Tbh nobody knew what to really expect from Geno this year. You know what Fitzpatrick is. You had an idea with Geno but there was at least some hope involved in his further development. Plus, I was pretty excited about IK. I see no good in this. Would rather have seen Fitzpatrick actually win the job.

No dig at you, but Geno still should have known better.  Fan abuse is part of a pro athlete's reality.  Good thing Geno never played for the Islanders or Flyers in the Garden.

Geno needed the reps and the work more than anyone, the whole " start the season 2-2 " narrative doesn't hold weight here. This isn't Brady coming back and hitting the ground running, this basically ends any hope of Geno having a productive season.

Just told my son the same thing.  Only I've been saying this for 40 years or so.

Bowles must be flipping out remembering the one guy who told him not to take the job due to the Jet curse. lol

40 years? God bless all of you older fans who have had to deal with this team for so long

I don't understand your line of thinking.

Our new GM had a stellar offseason. Free agents, drafts, contract renegotiations, just brilliant.  But he couldn't get everything done in one year and with a weak QB FA class, Geno under contract, and Fitzpatrick recovering from injury, just what was he supposed to do?  He drafted a kid, talked the right talk.  I don't think for a second Macca is into Geno Smith.  He's the one piece of the puzzle that had to wait until next year, circumstances dictated it.

I dont think anyone could have answered that until the regular season began, including the coaches. It's not a crazy theory though. Geno is horrible. Lets also not forget that you probably have to be a real a$$hole to get punched in the face when you are the starting QB. It's not like I have ever even heard of his happening before. This is Ryan Leaf sh*t tbh.

Destroy Miami?!? LOL Dude I'm 33. 2008 with Pennington is one of my fondest memories of being a fin fan......Sad but true.

If winning a faux division title with Brett Favre and Tom Brady injured is the definition of a 'fond memory' for Dolphins fans, well, that makes me feel pretty good.
