7 worst NFL trades... Ever ~ ~ ~

Recommended Posts

There’s always a bit of risk involved whenever an NFL organization chooses to make a trade. But in that moment, the front office has to be convinced that it is making a decision for the betterment of the franchise as a whole. Whether there’s a player in the draft that the team likes, or it’s just time to shake things up, wheeling and dealing is all part of the game. But that doesn’t mean it always goes as planned.

It would be nice if every team managed to benefit equally when they opted to make a deal, but that is completely unrealistic. Although there are occasions when trades work out for everyone, oftentimes, like the game itself, there are winners and there are losers. With that in mind, here are the 7 worst NFL trades ever.

Did Doug Jolley make it?   It should.

i have such surreal memories from that era......doug jolly trade, taking a kicker with our first pick in draft, trading 2 first rounders (and a 4th) to move up for dewayne robertson ect

side note....is there any team in history that has had worse luck with Tight ends than the Jets??  Johnny mitchell, kellen winslow, bubba franks, kyle brady, eric green, dustin keller, anthony becht.......we actually try to bring in good players and they all fail once the put on the green and white

nothing wrong w/ that trade.  we went into that draft targeting Nugent and Justin Miller, we traded down into the 2nd rd, picked up Jolley and picks and still got the 2 guys we wanted.  You can question those 2 guys that we wanted but the trade itself was  good one.

falcons traded brett favre to the packers for one 1st round draft pick..

They had a QB who was playing well, they drafted Favre with a mid second and changed it into a 1.  For a guy who never played for them.  Trade made perfect sense

People always talk about that trade but I'm not sure they're aware that we didn't trade a 2nd rounder for him.  We moved down a few spots in the draft (I think about 5-10 spots in the early 2nd round) to get Jolley.

the reasoning behind the trade was bad. never understood it. they wanted heath miller, but knew he wouldn't make it past pitt. why not trade up in front of pitt and grab the guy you really wanted. instead we got a bust at tight end, a year or 2 of good kick returns, and a kicker. gotta luv herm & bradway

absolutely, the trade itself was a really good one actually.  Again, you can take issue w/ who they were targeting but if we don't make the trade we take Miller or Nugent in rd 1 and the other in rd 2 and we don't get jolly and more importantly don't get the extra picks which led to Kerry Rhodes being drafted who was very good for us for a few years.

they wanted JUSTIN Miller not Heath, we still got Justin.  the issue was in evaluating the prospects not the execution of the trade.

that 2005 draft is one of the worst of all time, not just for us but for the league.

Not sure how you can defend that trade.  It was beyond moronic in so many ways, I dont know where to begin.  When ever you trade out of the first for a player that was terrible before you traded for him and ended up being worse after you traded for him, its a bad trade.  Period.  Never mind the fact the team was stupid enough to think they were really just a kicker away and went as far as taking one in the 2nd round followed up by drafting a terrible CB who ended up being a kick returner.  It was colossal mistake of a trade.

That not even getting into who they could have had if they stayed put.  This guy Aaron Rodgers - he's pretty good.  This dude Heath Miller, he plays the same position as Doug Jolley and he's pretty good. Roddy White, he's not too bad.  Logan Mankins, he's decent.

But yeah, Doug Jolley, Mike Nugent and Justin Miller.

they missed the title game b/c the K missed 2 makeable FGs only needing to hit one.  You can criticize the prospect evaluation, you cannot criticize the trade.

Rodgers was gone before our original pick, Heath Miller was available.  you can go back and look at every successful pick in any draft.  the bottom line is they were targeting Justin Miller and Mike Nugent.  Got both players, got a vet TE, got extra picks which led to getting a high quality starter.

The trade was absolutely horrific.  I can criticize it with confidence.  Pretty much one of the most comically bad trades ever.

We can't?  I heard more reports the Jets were high on Heath Miller than Justin.  Everybody was all excited that Justin Miller fell to the 2nd, but I am pretty sure that a big part of that was the fact he got arrested right before the draft.  I think that piece of sh*t is a big reason the T"angini" regime went so overboard on character.  They didn't even get Oakland's first 2nd rounder.

yes they did, we got Oak's 2nd rounder, Jolley and 2 6th rd picks and all we did was move down about 20 spots and got the guys we targeted anyway.  look at what oak got- Chris Spencer and Matt Cassell.  we certainly won that trade

actually it wasn't.  it was common knowledge at the time they were targeting Justin Miller and Mike Nugent.

herm and bradway felt they were 3 players away from from the big game. tight end, corner, and kicker.they felt heath wouldn't make it past the steelers( they were right) so they explored a trade for jolley to get all 3 positions with 2 picks. it was reported plenty.maybe targeting is the wrong word here. they wanted heath in the 1st but didn't want to trade up

No way man. You can't argue a trade by saying "they got who they targeted". The overall quality of what the trade netted and what they missed on must be considered. First of all you don't know they were targeting Nugent and Miller 100%. And if they were this is all a moot point because they'd clearly be idiots even if Nuge and Miller were good. You don't view drafts that way. You let the draft come to you when you're down that low. By your premise Nuge and Miller were their top two prospects overall AND they knew they'd both fall to the 2nd.

As I recall the trade occurred before the draft even started, making it even more horrible because you have no idea who's going to be on the board when you pick. Secondly they received Jolley and two 6's. Kerry Rhodes doesn't play into that because they easily could have used their existing picks to get to him if needed. So they would have lost the likes of Houston and Dreesen. Boo hoo.

That trade was awful on so many levels.
