One of my favorite wins of all time. Obviously it was meaningless but with Dennis in the hospital and everything that happened it was huge. I remember about a day before the game the report coming out that he had feeling in his toes. It was a great weekend in what was the worst season of Jets football in my life.
nyjunc
Condensed version of Jets vs Chiefs 1988 The chiefs were terrible but basically kept us out of the playoffs that year. We played them twice and went 0-1-1.

Irish Jet
During the lock down I've been watching every retro Jets clip I can get my hands on. What really stood out to me is that Curtis Martin and Kevin Mawae are even better than I remembered. And I remembered them being good. Martin was ridiculous - A complete back who could make guys miss and break tackles with ease. He made a defence work to get him down. Mawae just f*cking mauled guys, had great awareness of what was going on. The game is so different now it's crazy - Different sport altogether. Was so difficult to pass back then. Watching Pennington and Testaverde get their WR's lit up time and again is hard to watch, especially knowing the concussion issues they probably had, but it was happening every game with every team. QB's getting bombarded with hits, bounties being offered on people, safeties trying to get bodies on their record. The good times.

If you finished in last in the 5 team divisions you played every team in the 4 team division in your conference and then the last place team from the other 5 team division in your conference along with the last place teams from the other conference's 5 team divisions. The Jets finished in last in 87 so they played KC twice in 88 who finished last last in the AFC west. They played Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Cleveland and Houston along with the Giants and Lions who finished last in their divisions. We finished in 4th in 1988 but last again in 1989. It was 1990 when they played SD twice.

nyjunc
The Jets started the 1981 season 0-3, over the last 13 games they were 10-2-1 with the only losses coming to Seattle. TuscanyTile2
It's disappointing that the Jets Raiders 1982 playoff matchup doesn't seem to be on YouTube. This is all I found.
shevys
I find Jim Nantz pretty terrible in general, but his disgusting homerism is on full putrid display here, especially in the first half. His blatant laughing at a Jet injury was especially infuriating. The silver lining is we all know how this game ended. Eff the Patriots

The things about nantz that stuck out to me were how subdued his call of the huge Cotchery play was and his whining about the celebration after the Greene TD to seal it.

nyjunc
This game was meaningful for me, this was my third regular season game that I attended as a kid and the first time the Jets won. A Saturday afternoon game in December 1988 against Eric Dickerson and the Colts. I haven't watched it yet but I think this was Joe Klecko's last game. He was playing for the colts and I believe he got hurt and would never play again.

They blew two games they should have won against the Chiefs (tied 1 and lost 1)! Also Hess extended Walton two years the day after the horrible Chief loss in KC which eliminated the Jets. If JetNation were around in 1988 I would have loved to have read the posts about that!
