jgb
Antonio Cromartie: Odell Beckham 'a one-year wonder' By Marc Sessler Giants wideout Odell Beckham has more receiving yards over his first 16 games than any player in NFL history, but Jets cornerback Antonio Cromartie isn't impressed. "'Cause right now he's a one-year wonder," Cromartie said Friday on ESPN. "It's just one year." Cromartie referenced this week's complaints from Bills defenders, who labeled Beckham a "prima donna" and a "golden boy" after he threw a punch at Buffalo linebacker Preston Brown. "I need to see it on an every-game basis," Cromartie said. "Not him getting penalties or something like that or sucker-punching somebody. I think it's all about how you carry yourself throughout your whole entire career." Still, Cromartie went out of way to offer the "utmost" respect for Beckham's outrageous production -- 115 catches for 1,612 yards and 14 touchdowns over one full season -- acknowledging that Beckham "had the most production out of any receiver I've seen in 16 games since Randy Moss." "But you have to do it week in and week out and depend on that person," Cromartie said. "No matter if you're getting double- or triple-teamed. Moss didn't complain when he got double- or triple-teamed, and people went after him also." dbatesman
I'm not one for sh*t-talking, but Beckham is fugazi as hell and if this gets under his skin and gets him to do something stupid when we play them, so be it.

Newyorkgiants10
Meh it is what it is. Doesn't really matter though. Of all people though cro shouldn't talk. If it comes from Revis ok but cro would get roasted by beckham as far as beckham complaining about double or triple team. I have not seen that once so I have no idea why he references saying randy moss never complained about being doubled or tripled

GREENBEAN
Beckham would abuse Cromartie, unfortunately. But Revis and Marcus Williams can hold him down no problem. Not when Sheldon and Mo are squashing Eli all day. lol I really have tired of the talking after the past 6 years and would rather Cro didn't say this, but the truth is that Beckham does seem to have been "figured" out some this season. No worries. The guy is a stud, but that rookie year may prove to be an anomaly of sorts.
docdhc
Below is the full article from NJ.com. If you read it you see NFL.com left some key stuff out. Cro was asked who he thinks are the top rated WR's are and he named Dez Bryant, anotonio Brown, and Calvin Johnson which is very reasonable. Then they asked why he left Beckham out and he said he is a one year wonder, he hasn't done it long enough. It's hardly trash talking, it really was manipulation of what he said by the author and then the headline and editing on NFL.com. Read it below and it seems much less of a big deal: This ought to go over well with Giants fans: Jets cornerback Antonio Cromartie, who'srarely shy about expressing himself, doesn't think Giants wideout Odell Beckham Jr. ranks among the top three receivers in the NFL, never mind Beckham's off-the-charts production in the first 16 games of his pro career. Cromartie thinks this partly because Beckham has only played the equivalent of one NFL season, and partly because he feels like Beckham whines too much. In an appearance Friday on ESPN's "SportsNation," Cromartie laid out his top three receivers as follows: the Cowboys' Dez Bryant, the Steelers' Antonio Brown, the Lions' Calvin Johnson. Why no Beckham? You can watch Cromartie's answer in the video above, but in case you'd rather not, keep reading. "Right now, [he's] a one-year wonder," Cromartie said. "I'm just being honest. It's just one year. I need to see it on an every-game basis, not him getting penalties, or something like that, or sucker-punching somebody." PLUS: Jets in the U.K. diary, Day 2: 'American football? In London?' Beckham got fined $8,681 by the NFL this week for throwing a punch at Bills safety Duke Williams toward the end of Sunday's game. The Bills had been physically mauling Beckham at the line of scrimmage throughout the game. Beckham plans to appeal. Cromartie thinks Beckham should just get used to facing physical play from extra defenders. "I think it's all about how you carry yourself throughout your whole entire career," Cromartie said. "He's very young. Has he had productive years in 16 games? Yes. I give him the utmost [respect] for that. He's had the most production out of any receiver I've seen in 16 games since Randy Moss. "But you have to do it week-in and week-out, and depend on that person, no matter if you're getting double- or triple-teamed. Randy Moss didn't complain when he got triple- or double-teamed, and people went after him, also." The Jets play "at" the Giants at MetLife Stadium on Dec. 6. Long Island Leprechaun
Cromartie should know better. The writer set up the whole issue. What if Cromartie had chosen Beckham over Dez Bryant? The next question would be: Why not Dez, and then the "negative" quote -- no matter what Cro said. What Cro did say was absolutely reasonable and quite complimentary of Beckham's first year and his great catch while pointing out that one year does not a career make. Obviously, players know how Beckham is carrying himself on the field, what he's saying, how he's reacting. He was fined for a reason, regardless of appeals. And you can expect that teams are going to zero in on him and try to take him away, given that the Giants have pretty mediocre receivers beyond him. When Cruz gets back, it will help, of course. But this is professional sports. You don't get a pass because you're talented. You get even more pressure. Let's see how Beckham matures... that's all Cromartie is really saying as a veteran player in the league.

KRL
Typical media, taking a quote out of context and creating a "buzz" around their article. Greatness is determined over time not in a moment of time. All Beckham did was have a good year while his crappy team went 6-10. Now defenses are concentrating on him and he's getting an attitude. If he wants to be considered great do what Calvin Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald and Andre Johnson did

Reporter: "Yes, but what makes Dez not as good as Odell?" or Reporter: "What makes Odell better than Dez in your opinion?" This what can only be called a trap interview to get a tag line. Only real answer is -- don't answer the original question at all. "Top three? Wow, that's tough. I don't think I could answer that." Of course, then the reporter can say, "So what do you think about (fill in the blank)?" Or "If you had to have one receiver on your team -- a or b - who would you take?" Reporters can bait you all day and get mileage. It's the nature of the business.

It's hardly trash talking, it really was manipulation of what he said by the author and then the headline and editing on NFL.com. Read it below and it seems much less of a big deal: No, what he said is clear and obvious trash talking. And to do so - while on a down year himself - is entirely consistent with Cromartie's dumb ass. Now had he said, "Well, he had that record-breaking rookie year and has plenty of talent, but after only 1 full season it's too early to put him in the same class of receivers as top guys who have done it repeatedly." THAT would have been "hardly trash talking" on Cro's part. Calling him a one year wonder is absolutely trash talking. It's an insult. He's saying Beckham is not really as good as the hype of his own rookie season, not just that he doesn't consider him to be on the Bryant-Brown-Megatron level yet. Cromartie definitely wanted to fling it. No one specifically baited him into calling OBJ a one year wonder. That's all on Cro. You had me until "it's not fair" that argument is a throwaway in all facets of life because it is based on the faulty premise that it should be or will ever be fair But will also note that while THE CATCH certainly added to Beckham's status, he did put up 1300/12 last year in 12 games, which means he's much more than one circus catch

This isnt a "it isnt fair" argument. Its rather evident that Beckham's first year was just stupid good and he's having a damn good 2nd year. I made sure to say that in my 1st sentence. What im saying is, why are they promoting incomplete passes? Its not like the catch was one of those "once in a lifetime" freakish catches that just so happened to be out of bounds. They were great athletic catches that were incomplete. We see those type of plays almost every week from various WR's. I dont want to come off as a Beckham hater, quite the contrary, but I think the NFL is really putting the battery in his back unnecessarily. He's quickly becoming the Peyton Manning of WR's lol. This kid could do no wrong. And that's coming from a guy who's fav all time QB is Peyton Manning. Beckham is the real deal, but multiple incomplete passes on the front page of NFL.com.....really?
