The Mets' likelihood of signing Yoenis Cespedes is not zero but not likely.

The Mets have settled with three of their nine arbitration-eligible players. Addison Reed receives $5.3 million in his final season before free agency. First-time arbitration eligible relievers Carlos Torres ($1.05 million) and Josh Edgin ($625,000) also settled. Still unresolved: Matt Harvey, Lucas Duda, Neil Walker, Jeurys Familia, Ruben Tejada and Jenrry Mejia.

Davis is signing with Baltimore for 161 million. So Cespedes looks like he would not go there long term to afford both of those big contracts

Olney: Mets facing pressure on Cespedes

Although its apparent that New York is comfortable with Yoenis Cespedes signing elsewhere, the pressure the team is getting from fans to re-sign him is "intensifying," Buster Olney writes

Please don't sign Cespedes to a 5-year deal because of the f*cking fans.  Please.

You know the Mets would never give that type of contract. The most I could see Mets offer would be for two years and I seriously doubt that would take place

Well as much as I have hated the Wilpons for not supporting this franchise kudos to bring the big bat we needed to solidify for next year. it will fun to watch this team. Players actually want to play for the Mets

I just saw this

The New York Mets designated right-hander Carlos Torres for assignment Friday, clearing a 40-man roster spot as fellow reliever Antonio Bastardo's two-year, $12 million contract became official.

Torres, 33, recently had avoided arbitration by agreeing to a $1.05 million contract. The Mets have a week to trade him. If they are unsuccessful, Torres must be placed on waivers, where he would figure to get claimed.

Torres went 5-6 with a 4.68 ERA in 59 appearances for the Mets in 2015.

Minus Torres, the bullpen in April may consist of Jeurys Familia, Bastardo, Addison Reed, Jerry Blevins, Hansel Robles, Erik Goeddel and Sean Gilmartin. Robles, however, is due to begin the season with a three-game suspension for throwing near the head of Philadelphia's Cameron Rupp last season. Josh Edgin, returning from Tommy John surgery, may open the season on the disabled list and be ready in May.

The San Francisco Giants and Chicago Cubs are a notch above the rest of the National League, while the American League is wide-open, according to season win-total expectations released Thursday by the sportsbook at the Atlantis Casino in Reno, Nevada.

The Giants are the only team to open with a win total of 90. They are followed closely by the Cubs at 89 and the New York Mets at 88.

"To me, the Giants, top-to-bottom, have the least amount of question marks," Atlantis sportsbook director Steve Mikkelson said. "The Cubs are a very good, but they have these youngsters. What if Kris Bryant goes into a slump? They have a lot swing-and-miss guess."

The St. Louis Cardinals, Washington Nationals, Pittsburgh Pirates and Los Angeles Dodgers also have win totals of 87 or greater.

In the American League, the Kansas City Royals are tops. The defending World Series champs opened at 87 wins (-115 under).

"In the American League, to me, every team, except for the [Oakland] A's, think they can win it," Mikkelson said. "Unlike the National League, where there are eight teams really fighting for the five spots, in the American League, there are 14 teams fighting for the five slots."

The rebuilding Atlanta Braves have the lowest win-total expectations at 65. The Philadelphia Phillies and Colorado Rockies are the only others with win totals in the 60s.

The Atlantis Casino posted the totals Thursday afternoon. Limits are $500. It's the 10th straight year Mikkelson has been first in posting season win totals on the market. He said the hardest team to set this year was his favorite team, the Boston Red Sox. He went with 85.5.

"I always have those high Red Sox expectations," Mikkelson said. "I got burnt last year, thinking they were going to do it. They obviously finished last."

Yes I rather see other teams get all the accolades and the pressure that come with it.

Major League Baseball has permanently suspended Jenrry Mejia after his third PED test violation.

He tested positive for Boldenone.

The Mets released a statement that said "We were deeply disappointed to hear that Jenrry has again violated Major League Baseball's Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program. We fully support MLB's policy toward eliminating performance enhancing substances from the sport. As per the Joint Drug Program, we will have no further comment on this suspension."

I liked the move for walker when we made it so it is pleasing so far.

D'arnaud can not stay healthy -that seems to be a given that Mets have to start to make decisions about for the future

That ias the type of game you need to win to very successful over the course of the season. Also need to take advantage of teams that are not very good

Man of his word. Matt Sassi said if Bartolo Colon EVER hit a home run, he would get a tattoo to commemorate it. Well, now Matt Sassi has himself a Bartolo Colon tattoo >> http://atmlb.com/1qgPDsn

The Mets have to get better with building runs though- that has been the Yankees downfall in the playoffs can not depend on homeruns with the good pitchers you see at playoff time

Conforto taking some reps in practice at 1B supposedly. Keith must be happy. He's been advocating for that since last year.

Been saying it since the first couple weeks. There's been a glaring hole in infield depth since the season started. Campbell is terrible and this organization has never been able to find a spot for Flores. I like the Kelly call-up because it means at the very least we're going to experiment around a little bit before succumbing to a trade. Walker at first and calling Dilson up might make some sense too.

Herrera has nothing to do at triple A- he has teared that up so he should come back up and play.

Henderson and Reed have been very good leading up to Familia.

Duda has been lost mostly this year again with breaking balls- hopefully sooner rather than later Smith can show he can hit to support his draft status

Julio Urias, 19, will make his major league debut with the Dodgers on Friday in New York VS Mets. He did not allow a run in his last 26 inning in the hitter friendly PCL....the Dodgers AAA affiliate. He was promoted to LA with an overall 1.10 ERA. He has a mid-nineties fastball., a Wipe out knee buckling curve ball and fading deceptive change up. He has the ability to change eye levels, add and subtract velo on all his pitches and keep the ball out of the middle of the plate. He has the poise and composure of a 10-year veteran and was considered the best left-handed pitching prospect in minor league baseball. The only question left is how the teenager will handle the pressure of making his major league debut in New York City against the defending NL Champs New York Mets in a close to sold out CitiField and millions of people watching on TV. Most scouting reports say he can handle the pressure......We'll soon find out.
