I really, really loved it. Pushing the story in a totally new direction. The last hour was t!ts. Luke's final battle was so fitting. Mark Hamill deserves some props for putting in a performance like that despite him disagreeing with where they took the character.

 ***spoiler alert***

P.S. I told you ****ers 2 years ago that Rey was a totally new character with no association to Obi Wan or the Skywalkers. I know my Star Wars. Suck it biatches.

P.P.S. When Ben slayed Snoke the theater went nuts, thought he was turning. I knew the second he did it that was a wrap for him. Sith are supposed to slay their masters.

I had a feeling that internet peeps were going to have a problem like this. Thing is in the SW universe Jedi and force sensitive characters have survived in space before. Plo Koon did it in the Clone Wars. Luke did it in one of the Thrawn books. Han's daughter definitely did it too, I just can't remember which book.

Ren kills Snoke because the final step in a Sith transitioning from apprentice to master is slaying your master. This is why, for example, Palpatine begs Luke to kill him at the end of Return of the Jedi.

There's no question as to why he does this. In VII he offers to teach Rey, and right after he kills Snoke in VIII he offers to bring her on again. I think he sees himself as something even more than a Sith, but it's clear he adheres to the tradition of embracing its power through past traditions.

***SPOILER ALERT for those reading the end of this thread not really knowing that we're discussing major plot points to TLJ***

Just came back from the theater 2 hours ago.  I am an absolutely HUGE and die-hard fan of Star Wars.  My father raised me on the films, right along with the Jets.  I was so happy with it.  I'm gonna watch it a second time and let it sink in before giving the film a numerical score and before I really start diving into my own theories for IX.  For many, I feel like this is a film that will be appreciated years down the road when the "Sequel Trilogy" (as they call it within the fanbase) is wrapped up and some, obviously, loose ends are tightened up with a pretty bow.

Rian could have taken the easy way out, set this film up to be your typical "the emotionally conflicted bad guy realizes the error of his ways and turns good to fight the big baddie with everyone else in the final movie, THE END" and I absolutely love that he stuck to his guns and made a Star Wars movie that destroyed the flawed tropes of the past.  We saw the downfall story play out.  We saw the redemption angle too.  This is fresh and it's new.  @RutgersJetFan is right when he presumed that certain people were gonna have issues with the film.  The guys who fell in love with the original trilogy, particularly the ones who are active on the internet, a little older, and stubborn in their "this is what Star Wars is, and anything else written in any other way, is trash" were never going to love or appreciate the film and it's direction.  I knew that the second I walked out of that theater.  I'm not trying to say that they're wrong for not enjoying it (everyone is entitled to their own taste), but when you have such a stubborn bias in how you believe things should be done, you shouldn't be surprised when someone comes along to shake things up and you're left dissatisfied.

On to the plot...

I really like the line where Luke says to Rey “what were you expecting, that I face down the whole First Order army myself?” From my point of view (lol), Luke is not only talking to Rey, but to us, the audience.  From the moment we saw Palpatine execute Order 66 in ROTS, we realized, as powerful as they are, the Jedi cannot hold their own against an entire army.  Even if Luke was so powerful that he was the key to defeating the First Order in the battlefield as Rey implied, what does that say about his character?  Staying hidden while his family, friends, and innocent people are killed by the First Order?  He would be a monster.  Also, the "Laser Sword" comment felt like a nice little shot from Rian and Co. at those who actually thought that was the way they were going to take Luke's character.  It would have been ridiculous.  It's a shame that it fell on deaf ears for some because THAT is exactly what they wanted to see and any other direction, in their eyes, makes the film "bad".  Luke now understands that his actions, and the actions of the Jedi have created the current problems.  He really feels that he can do more harm than good.  He is wrong in these beliefs though, and in this movie he learns that his biggest power is his power to inspire people.  That of course is beautifully illustrated by the final scene of the film, where the slave kids are gathered around, and one of them is recounting the battle where Luke Skywalker, alone, faced The First Order.  Inspiration was what the world needed, and that’s is what Luke gave them.  That was his purpose.  In a way, that is more powerful than him beating the first order in battle with his "Laser Sword".

Regarding Snokes death, a small part of me is disappointed that they killed him off so soon, but I thought that how he died was perfect.  I've seen people complain that Snoke wasn't fleshed out enough before he died and, quite frankly, it annoys me because it's like those people completely forgot that Sidious was literally nothing more than a hooded hologram for a total of 45 seconds in the OT before he was introduced in ROTJ and, literally, thrown away after 10-15 minutes of screen time.  The death scene for Snoke is a very classical "the all powerful being dies because his hubris is blinding him" scene and it was done masterfully.  He saw what Kylo was doing but totally misinterpreted it.  I've seen complaints about him using exposition to explain what was happening but I thought that added to the moment.  One aspect of story telling is showing the reader/viewer something that is impending but the character doesn't realize it.  It was also an absolutely awesome way to reintroduce the old Sith ways of "the apprentice either kills the master or is discarded for someone who eventually will" tradition, even if Snoke and Ren aren't actually Sith.

Kylo Ren has become one of the best characters in the entire franchise and Adam Driver's performance was absolutely brilliant.  I was always a fan of his acting and it's great to see him do such a phenomenal job in this series.  Watching his rise as an actor has been fun in itself.

Lastly, I don't care what anyone says about the end of Luke's character in this film.  What an absolutely beautiful send off scene.  Sitting there, exhausted from the power he just exerted, the vision of the Twin Suns, was insane to me.  I won't lie, it was emotional and had me choking up a bit.  Like, if he had to go, that was perfect for me.  He died in peace, smiling, just as his masters did.  Personally, I have no doubt that he will be back as a Force Ghost and, to be honest, that's the right way to continue the character.  This story is all about the new kids.  The old guard has to pass the torch and it started with Han's death.  Keeping Luke "alive" just because he's Luke Skywalker, is silly, even if that's what the Star Wars purists want.

Agree, Luke finally found peace and is one with the force, great way to finish that story, I half expected the Obi Wan pose and quote "Kylo, if you strike me down I will become more powerful then you can possibly imagine"

Not many better options after years in hiding... Some random scene like the end of Han (terrible), not enough time to rebuild the Jedi order again... another clone army waiting to help wipe out the first order could have been cool but that had been done before

Luke finding peace was good.

Luke, the man who brought Darth Vadar back, giving up and thinking about murdering his nephew in his sleep, didn't like it.

********Spoilers coming***************

****************************************

Look, this movie was literally Rian Johnson and Kathleen Kennedy pissing on the OT, killing off the central character of that story, and "letting the past die". They didnt want any "legacy" of the original stories, characters, or even the perceived resolution of those movies. They killed off Han, they destroyed the New Republic. Then they destroyed the concept of the New Jedi Order. Hell, they even killed off Ackbar. Gotta get rid of those things only the old people care about!

Chewbacca was in this movie just to provide a funny Vegan shaming joke.

Carrie Fisher had the audacity to die in real life, and her character is the only one of the original "core" still alive....Irony...?

They turned Luke into a failure and a mopey, bitter old guy that ran away and shut him off from the force after nearly murdering his nephew in his sleep. Then, they got rid of him. I doubt we see him again, because apparently even Hamill himself hated what they did to the character.

This was Disney saying "**** off" to George Lucas and the over 35 crowd that grew up with non-Disneyfied Star Wars. And it worked. Im out. The only thing left of New and Improved, Diversier, Millenial Star Wars that I might bother to see is if they do make a Kenobi movie with Ewan McGregor. Because I'm old. I want to hang out with an old friend for a couple of hours, and honestly, i coudnt give less ****s about MaRey Sue, Discount Wedge Antilles, Darth Goth guy, or FN-2187.

I don't even want to get into the fact that by the end of the movie, the #RESISTANCE is literally comprised of Women, a Hispanic guy, and a black dude. LOL....

Surprised they didnt blame the #Resistance losses on Planet Russiana....

No. In the next one, the remaining members of the #RESISTANCE are going to throw a big rally calling the bad guys meanies, and Master Comey Wan Kenobi is going to come out of hiding and accuse the First Order of sexual harrassment amd "collusion" with Darth Putin. LOL.

I could live with the weak stories and truly sorry character use/misuse.....if they at least got ANY of the "Sci-Fi" part right.

As with Nu-Trek, Abram's vision of Nu-Wars is either a complete moron when it comes to science fiction writing, or he just doesn't give a sh*t and knows the audience today is too stupid in the majority to be bothered by little things like coherent logic.

Last movie was the utterly out loud laughable "we can see a laser beam fired from one solar system fly past our solar system to hit and blow up planets in another third solar system" amongst a litany of other sins.

This movie we get bombs dropping strait down in the void of space, lol, and we get an Imperia...."New Order" fleet literally chasing the rebels ships is slow-mode the whole movie, because apparently every Imperial hyperdrive broke suddenly, and no one could lightspeed ahead, then lightspeed back in front of them.

Then we have "we're here in the middle of no where, nothing around at all, so we're safe", then later, MACGUFFIN! an old rebel base just happens to be right here where we can fly over to it without even needing hyperdrive.  No star nearby the entire time, till they hit the surface, the brightly lit by a sun that wasn't there before.  **** sake.

The Rebels leave Poe out of the loop despite being one of the major leaders because apparently arrogant men need taken down a peg by strong powerful women (Politics in muh Star Wars!).  Utterly and completely illogical, but sure, politics trumps good movie making these days.

Leia space superman, lame.  Drunk Yoda cameo, lame.  Luke's entire story here, lame.  Snoke (already lame) dies like a bitch, never was a main character after all, lame.  IN fact almost every male character here is lame, weak, pussified and pathetic.  Luke, inept, pussy.  Kylo, whiner pussy and inept.  Poe, inept, uninformed, wrong, does nothing of value.  Finn, fails at literally everything, needs saved repeatedly by women or robots.  Snoke, pussy.  General Hux, comedy relief, literally the Proctor of Star Wars now.  The women are the only competent characters in this film, again, the heavy handed politics agenda is obvious.  The selfless "lightspeed into the badguys" scene, perfect for say, Admiral Ackbar.....nope, some new purple hair gal, because Ackbar died a bitch by a random Tie Fighter, but the new purple gal grrlpwr saves the Zzzzzzz.......

Creepy Kylo Rey semi-romance brewing, ugh.  Rey in total, no coherent or consistent personality whatsoever, she just floats through the film acting...badly.  But she's still the messiah, the hero, the One, the new Neo.  Chewy is a prop, and yes, the Vegetarian/Vegan theme underlying the entire film (where Progs must not be eaten, Space Horses must not be raced and Crystal Foxes must not die) was pretty obvious.  I'm married to a Veg head, so I'm ok with it, but it was hamfisted and heavy handed, as is everything Nu-Wars.

Speaking of ham fisted politics, could the entire Casino World sub-story have been any more heavy handed?  Capitalism bad, rich people bad, poor horse stable kids, good, got it.  Even a remotely deft touch could have done this better.  The fact that the slow chase just dragged on waiting for this sub-story to play out just makes it lamer, near on meme levels of bad (check, yes, badguys still slow chasing the rebels even now, lol).

I enjoyed having some humor back, but it was too much, too often, at too many inappropriate moments.  Half the characters are literally walking jokes at this point.  It's not high adventure, it's near on sarcastic parody.  A conscious disassembly of what Star Wars was for past generations, to force in a few political points, to push a few social agenda, and to utterly kill everything that came before so Disney can keep milking the brand going forward without any need or want of original characters or story.

I love Rian Johnson as a director.  His films, Brick especially, was utterly brilliant. I am crushed at how badly he did.  Crushed.  This?  This was horrid.  While it had some good visual scenes, enear on every other aspect, characters, plot, story, pacing, logic, science, all failed utterly to please.

The divide will be clear.....if you LOVE Nu-Trek, thoughtless incoherent flashy "sci-fi" you don't need a brain to watch, and think "old" Star Trek is too brainy, you'll LOVE This new film, it's everything Nu-Trek was for Star Wars.  If you're older, like decent characters, expect a minimum of logic and science and plot to your films, well, you're sh*t out of luck.

This wasn't Star Wars.  This was Mary Sue Social Justice Wars.  Millenials will love it.

***Spoilers***

Chewbacca was excluded from anything meaningful.

The entire Canto Bight storyline sucked.

But other than that, I don't understand the hate; specifically the "political' hate.  I didn't see this movie as political at all.  I think a lot of y'all just need to relax on seeing politics/social issues everywhere you look.  The fact that Holdo had a reasonable if depressing strategy and Poe's plan was a massive gamble wasn't about male vs female; I read that as being age and experience versus youth and inexperience: An admiral's plan versus a pilot's plan.

And drunk Yoda, Warfish?  Come on, if you watch The Empire Strikes Back I bet you'll find that Yoda in TLJ was a lot more like the ESB Yoda than the prequels Yoda.

And Rey failed on multiple levels in this movie; failed to get true training from Luke, failed to convince Luke to join the resistance and failed to turn Kylo to the light.  In fact almost all of the heroes failed in this movie; except they were able to narrowly survive thanks to the time Luke bought them.

Not saying it's a great movie.  Not saying its even close to The Empire Strikes Back.  Definitely think it was overrated by critics.  But goddam this movie was so much better than the prequels and I think a lot people are nit-picking the sh*t out of it.  I'm happy that they took some risks.  It was a pretty good Star Wars movie and it was original in a lot of ways.

Did you watch my post movie, slighy drunken one hour rant on You Tube...because you hit on many of the exact points I talked about...lol

Oh, and the "ram the ship to protect the escaping small ships" thing was already done in Abrams 2009 Nu-Trek. George Kirk. Remember?

Kind of like how Han Solo borrowed the Adama Maneuver when he did a Hyperspace (FTL) jump into atmosphere.

And I actually LOUDLY said in the theatre "There is NO GRAVITY IN SPACE" during that moronic opening set piece....right after the stupid Poe and Hux comedy routine....which actually included a Yo momma joke.....lol.

So, so bad.

No. I think the the rando jedi kid at the end confirmed where they were heading with Rey and future Jedi. The Skywalkers will always be a part of this story, but they won't always be the heroes, and jedi can come from anywhere. Don't forget, this trilogy does have a Skywalker as its main plot device, thus the search for another one is a reach. Rey is a nobody, just like Anakin was.

I think Luke's inner conflict for this trilogy is a reflection of that as well. Maybe he isn't the hero. And maybe his family really does need to get the **** out of the way.

This is kind of how I have felt since VII was released, about both Rey and Snoke. Everyone was constantly throwing out theories about who they really are, but I have felt since day one that these are simply totally new characters.

If Rey is just a nobody then why the **** bring Ewan McGregor in to have Kenobi call to her? LOL. This was just Rian Johnson sh*tting on everything that came before. Disney wants anything with connection to the Old Movies GONE.

LOL. I own every movie in the Franchise. The prequels were a mess, but There is some good stuff in there. You could probably make a really good 2 Star Wars movies out of the 3 PT films with good editing.

The OT were groundbreaking films that changed movies, established a legacy, created a multigenerational fanbase that will go on for decades. But they weren't "perfect" movies, but their flaws actually add to the charm.

By the way, have you watched the mini film "How Star Wars was Saved in the Edit"? Amazing and interesting. Without the OSCAR WINNING editing team that included Georges then wife, Star Wars 77 would have been a disaster. Plagued with thw problems we see in the Pt AND Rogue One.

The Force Awakens was OK. Looked great, sounded OK, and was essential a a way to try and connect the OT legacy with some new characters.

Rogue One was was cool. Yeah, a lot of fan service, but I enjoyed it.

This newest shyte? A dumpster fire that sh*ts all over TFA (Rey is....trailer trash, Snoke is....nothing...the First Order is comic relief) destroys the legacy of the OT, insults the original fans while destroying several characters (and/or killing them ofd), and laughingly turned SW into SJW.

As I said, message received. Bye. You can have it. LOL.

Here's an interesting one that popped up today. One of the big criticisms on Johnson has been on the navigational tracking storyline. Basically, that he creating this new tech just as a plot device. Turns out, it was already canon from a wicked cool Rogue One Easter egg. A little foundation for a new tech goes a long way.

Yet another reason to love Rogue One. The entire flick is an Easter egg fest.

Watched it last night. Spent most of the last 10 hrs either sleeping or going through it over and over in my head.

After all that, I'm just as conflicted now as I was during my initial reactions of the movie last night.

As a stand alone sequel to The Force Awakens, fine. This was good. It was overtly millennial (I'm a minority vegetarian millennial- I get to say this), it was funny at times, it was beautiful, and the action was great.

The problem is that this wasn't a stand alone sequel to TFA. Luke was front and center of this movie. The final act of his story is here. To judge it as something independent or something that is laying roots for the future of the Star Wars universe is a mistake. This should be judged as the finale of the original Star Wars arc, and in that sense, it failed.

Having a hard time with this movie.  Not sure how anyone could walk away from this movie thinking it was great.  There were moments of some pretty cool sh*t but nothing I would call great.  And then the rest of the movie was filled with eye rolling cheesy humor and pointless Disney characters who literally provided zero value.  At times, I legit thought I was watching a spoof of Star Wars, like Space Balls all over again.  The humor was over the top, incorporated way too much to the point it even ruined some of the most important and intense scenes and too often was it just a huge miss or maybe funny for a 10 year old.  The shirtless scene?  You're in the middle of an intense moment, which could probably be the best scene in the movie but you start with Rey asking him to put a towel on?  Come the **** on.  Luke Skywalker, brushed his shoulder off?...for a second I thought to myself...they're going to drop the Jay-Z song, aren't they?  I've never rolled my eyes more in a movie theatre than I did in this movie.  And I get that the original trilogy had silly character but outside of the bar scene in A New Hope, they all served a purpose.  This movie had more A Phantom Menace in it than it did anything else.  I was half expecting to see the lineage of Jar-Jar Binks appear.

That said, I did enjoy a few scenes:

The fight scene that took place after the Snoke death was pretty rad.  I'm not going to get into how he was so strong with the force but couldnt tell what Ren was doing...I can look past that type of stuff even though it's silly because the fight scene was bad ass.  The weapons, the moves, the colors, music...by far the best scene of the movie.

I enjoyed the Rey scene where she saw the duplications of herself on Luke's island.  That was pretty cool and shot really well.

I actually liked the Yoda and R2 scenes.  Both for nostalgic reasons but also because they would totally be the ones to help talk logic into Luke.  I thought they were very well done.

That was really it.

I thought they pretty much ruined everything else.  Poe who I was really excited about in TFA, was way too much in this movie.  I love Oscar they really made him just a corny character.  Finn, which was the only original story line from the TFA, was part of the most meaningless storyline in this one.  That whole relationship provided nothing to the movie or to push the story along.

The build up of Rey and who she is and who are her parents only to be noting at all.  So dumb.  That's fine she's a nobody but why build it up and make it seem like the story was all about discovering who she was and how she fits in the grand scheme of the story.

I wanted to love that final Luke scene, I really did but holy **** was it bad.  First off, we finally have a reunion with his twin sister and he's a freaking hologram.  How did they touch and how did he kiss her head?  And then the shoulder brush off, for fuke sake.  So lame.  Why do something so lame with Luke Skywalker?  And then the Matrix lean?  What was the point of the Matrix lean?  He was a ******* hologram.   I appreciate the effort with the twin suns and all that but what a piss poor way to send off the most iconic character potentially in the history of film.

The Leia superman scene.  The fact she's still alive.  Bizarre sh*t.

You know what I think my biggest problem was with the hole movie?   The most important character and the most valuable asset to the entire rebellion?  Is BB-8.  A droid.  A droid was by far the most important character in the entire rebellion.  While the rest of the movie battles internal conflict and has to have all these pointless conversations and meaningless missions, BB-8 is straight getting work done. And he's a droid.  I get R2 was obviously a huge part of the original trilogy but never did his efforts over shadow those of Luke or Han or Leia.

Really not too much to disagree with here.

During the Snoke scene, as Kylo was turning the saber, I was trying to think frantically of how Rey and Kylo were going to get out of this (both are obviously vital to the third movie and couldn't be killed off just yet), because there was no way Snoke wouldn't be aware of what Kylo was doing. And then they actually cut Snoke in half? The only living dude in the universe other than Luke with a great grasp of the Force, and all it takes to kill him is to distract him for a hot second? Cmon man.

Poe was annoying. I love Oscar as well, but what the hell did they do to him? He was vital to the story, but his character sucked. Menawhile, I liked Finn's character fine, but his entire story arc in this one sucked. Leia surviving Space? Fine, I'll allow it. But Leia all of a sudden being able to channel The Force?!? I mean, I almost felt insulted. .......Still, all of that was permissible because overall the movie was a fun way to spend 2.5 hours.

What made it a failure was what they did with Luke. I'm not old enough to say I've waited 30+ years to see Luke again, but even at my age, I've waited enough. When Disney announced Star Wars 3-4 years ago, all I wanted to see was Luke. They made me wait a whole movie only showing him at the end of TFA? Fine - now I'm even more amped to see him!

But then we get this? From the very first scene where he throws the saber over his shoulder, to the "lazer sword" (Davos to Gendry "I thought you'd still be rowing" all over again ) and drinking green milk straight from an alien's boob, to the brush off the shoulder, to the fake reunion with Leia? Ugh. I'm upset all over again just typing this out. Honestly, I can't even be mad about they way they sent him out, because the twin suns was the LEAST terrible part of his entire story!

I wasn't bored and I didn't walk out feeling like it was a waste of time.  In a lot of ways, I liked it more than TFA because it was actually an original story and there were some really cool and intense scenes.  I did like the Rey/Ren/Luke stuff.  It was good, it was a bit of a let down in the end but it was enjoyable in the moment.  I just feel like the bad outweighed the good and the bad was like, really bad.

There has definitely been some seriously excessive opposite extremes on this one, and I have to say I really don't get it from either side.  This certainly wasn't some all-time great masterpiece, but it's laughable to try to paint this as some sort of unforgivable sin.  I think the bottom line is that, as much as I'm a hardcore uber-nerd for Star Wars, I also realize that the mindset regarding the legacy is more in our head than anything else, creating some sort of ridiculous level of expectations.  I mean, there has seriously been initial backlash related to every one of those movies since at least ROTJ.  Ultimately, most people bitching about them are doing it in comparison to other movies they also bitched about.

Rogue One probably went over better than most since then, but certainly was not without it's own fair share of critics either.  In the end, just about all of the movies have gone over better the more time goes by (except for PM) .  I have little doubt this will be any different.

Was it flawless?  Hell no.  It had a few bumps along the way, and slowed to a crawl at points, particularly for Star Wars, but what did people really expect from a 2 1/2 hr long movie?  The third act kicked it up 20 notches and in the end I thought made for an entertaining flick.  I totally get the idea of not everyone being a fan of it, but I will never get this level of hatred being endlessly spewed by some out there.  Are we really going to pretend all of these movies were somehow flawless before this?

I saw this earlier, and thought it gave a pretty good rundown of everything flying around:  https://www.vox.com/culture/2017/12/18/16791844/star-wars-last-jedi-backlash-controversy

That was a good read and summarized my frustrations well.  The comedy was too much, like I said, it almost seemed like a spoof at times and the jokes weren't really funny.  They were cheesy as hell. The social implications of the movie, whatever, I don't get to wrapped up in it though it was blatantly obvious.

And I don't think the fact they're not taking it the route that many fans expected is that big of a deal, in fact, that's what I liked about this movie. It was original unlike TFA.  I think it's more about what he hit on with his point about building up plot lines that everyone was waiting to get answers on that ultimately meant nothing.  You spend 2-3 years waiting in suspense and then it's like, nope, just kidding.  It's a let down and missed opportunity in my eyes.

And again, treating the most iconic character possibly in the history of film the way they did, was disappointing.  I'm fine with killing him off, I'm fine with breaking him down and building him back up to be the hero...that's cool...it was just how they did it.  Luke Skywalker brushed his shoulder off during the final fight scene you'll ever see from him.  Let that sink in for a minute.  I'm still rolling my eyes and forever will think see that image and start singing Jay-Z.  That sucks.

Different strokes for different folks.  There was no possible way they were going to please everyone and the die hard fans...were never going to be fully pleased to begin with so that shouldn't be their concern.

Let me ask you this; what are you excited about for the next film?  Like, what is the cliff hanger?  Is there anything suspenseful left that's got you intrigued?  Despite my gripes with TFA, you left on the edge or your seat with anticipation.  And for Act 2 of a 3 Act story, I've literally got nothing to be excited about in the next movie.  The only thing that is the slightest bit intriguing is; how will the Rebels overcome these odds!!! And that's not exciting or suspenseful at all.

Since I've been vocal about it on this thread, I'll assume you're partially talking to me.

I've made my position clear: I don't care about the social commentary or the 'progressivism', and although I thought the humor was generally a bit much, and I've never enjoyed 'fan servicing' - all of that was ok and easy to deal with because in general it was a fun time at the theaters. What it was not, was a good Star Wars movie. The great divide revolves around 1 prominent issue: The handling of Luke's final character arc.

I guess JiF misinterpreted "no spoilers" to "please post every spoiler to the movie in your review." Glad I saw it so it wasn't ruined for me. Uncool...

Sorry!  But considering the movie was discussed at length already before I made that post on Tuesday, I thought we were past no spoilers.

Wasn't an anyone specific, or even to folks on this board.  I've seen the rants going crazy from both sides on this one.  Like I said, it seems the extreme reactions in both directions are a bit excessive.  I'm not going to lie, I wasn't 100% on board with everything in the movie, including parts of Luke, so I get it to an extent.  Just feels like it's become this trend for people to bitch about every single Star Wars movie for literally decades now, so it's become a bit of an eye-roller to me that becomes difficult to take seriously.  Especially given some of the laughably nit-picky things I've seen thrown out there over a friggin' space fantasy.  Two years from now, odds are pretty good that TLJ will be looked back upon much more fondly and everyone will be ready to get pissed about the next one.
