varjet
I am going to contradict myself here-if the Broncos cannot get Kaepernick, and given that they no longer pay Manning or Osweiler, they could credibly pay Fitz alot of money to QB their Super Bowl winning team (that now is less a few players). That would be a credible move by them to continue to have that team compete. It is obviously not their first choice, but it could be a 1-2 year stop gap, as starter this year and perhaps backup next. But that is what a team that far developed does. That is what a team with JJ Watt and DeAndre Hopkins does. I don't think a team in the shape the Jets are in spends $16mm for Fitz, but it could make sense for the Broncos.

After everything I had heard about Fitz & that wild ride he took us on, I still couldn't get out of my mind what every fan from each team he had played for said, just wait for it. Buffalo was the wait for it moment. Wait for it.....wait for it....wait for it....INTERCEPTION, SON OF A BITCH!

They just handed a QB who started a handful of games, and mostly looked like sh*t, a monster contract. Signing Osweiler is not what a team with JJ Watt and DeAndre Hopkins does. FlaJetsFan
Mac is making his bones… and Fitz is already sleeping with the fishes. I have no links to prove what I am about to say here. As I have said before, I ain't no NFL GM, so what do I know? I just know form working in business for a while that sometimes you need to make your bones to establish a few things. Sometimes, you just need to end someone's career as a warning to others who try to f*** with you and question your authority. Sometimes you just have to be a real bastard. Here goes. Fitz is probably already a persona non grata @ 1 Jets Dr. This is not about Fitz, anyway. This is about establishing, so there is no confusion in the minds of any players or their agents, who actually holds the cards when you play for the Jets. Playing for the Jets is a privilege, a dream come true for most, not some negotiating ploy. Unfortunately the cancer that started this with us is back, probably forced on Mac by Woody. That aside, with Griffin visiting, probably to kneecap Sexton, and the just transpired the Sanchez move, most likely it's already too late for Beardo to return. It's like the opening scene from the Godfather. What did Mac ever do to be treated with such disrespect? Do you think Mac will tolerate playing such games much longer with some larda**, opportunistic ex equipment manager? What this is really about is getting Sexton and all the other NFL parasites like him to understand exactly who holds the levers of power here. From this perspective, over the long haul, Fitz is inconsequential. Beardo seems to have failed to comprehend a basic thing. Mac is the boss; he is a bit player who had one good season his entire career. And Mac is the one who made the deal that revived his career. Mac is the one who gave him his big chance. Yes he did some very good things for us last season, then he turned into a flat out pig. So now, instead of being grateful for the opportunity, and playing ball (so to speak), and negotiating for something more reasonable, like 8 mill plus benchmark bonuses, Fitz is just trying to f*** Mac in the a**. Buonasera, Beardo. Buonasera. You're like the hired hand who thought he actually owned the ranch. Hope you enjoy growing that ridiculous beard of yours this summer, on the unemployment line, as you watch your pathetic career (a disaster, except for last season, and except for all the money you managed to rip off all those desperate, naive teams over the years) go up in flames due to your arrogance, greed, and complete disregard for the NY fans who welcomed you when you were nothing but a washed up retread. Get lost, pal. And don't come back. You're just an object lesson now. You mean nothing. Even the sight of you now, with that deceitful smirk of yours, disgusts me. We don't need to have ungrateful second rate QBs around who couldn't get it done when it counted. What a greedy little pig you turned out to be. Time for Mac to clean this sh** up. All the bloated contracts for aging players. Clean it up. And I want the word to go out to all those ex equipment managers out there. As a player, you get paid a fair wage with the Jets. So don't show your face at our place and think you can play games with Mac on behalf of your client. When Mac establishes this as a permanent, unshakeable new reality, and he will, Mac will remain as the GM here for the next 20 years, and probably become one of the most influential and respected General Managers in the history of the NFL the one who helped bring sanity to the current grotesque salary structure of the NFL. And every pissant equipment manager and borderline second rate player is going to know, going forward, not to ever even think about trying to f*** with Mac ever again. Are you paying attention, Wilk? Rangers9
I personally don't want the Jets org to play total hardball with Fitz. If he re-signs give him a fair deal not a total low ball contract. Larz
the #1 problem this team faces going forward is the deal macc gave revis. its not brick or mangold or fitz or harris its that god forsaken bullsh*t deal I believe that would count as a bloated contract for aging player
varjet
Based on everything I have seen thus far, I would say that it was Woody Johnson who made Macc give that deal to Revis. He wanted the press and to sell seats and jerseys. We could easily draft a QB. Don't be surprised. Revis could be an expensive 1B CB who needs help with the great receivers. He is still a good CB, but he is paid to cover WR1s one and one, like he used to. He cannot do that anymore. Eventually we will have to eat some of his contract. Move him to safety in 2018 and let he get beat up for retirement. It could have been Woody who made Macc franchise Wilkerson too. That is just a guess-we need to see how that one plays out. j4jets
I don't agree with a bunch of points being made here. 1. Mac didn't make Fitz. Let's not give him the credit. 2. Fitz had a below average year. Let's not make him look like god. 3. Mac inherited $50 million worth of cap space. To say he needs to "clean this sh*t up" from bloated contracts, is totally wrong. He had Mangold, Brick, Harris n Decker as high dollar players. That's hardly "bloated contracts" of aged players that has kept Mac in check. If anything, it was a core. 4. Mac doesn't control the FA. If he's worth it he'll get every nickel of it because it's a relative bargain these days. At some point he has to look in the mirror and at his family and not at how much other guys are getting. Especially the mirror, since the last quarter of the last game probably cost him an additional $20M. Maybe more. If he throws a TD instead of a pick from their 14, and then if we win even 1 playoff game (unless it was clearly despite him), he's looking at contract offers at least double what he's got so far. You could say the same about Hoyer in the playoffs. No he wouldn't get Osweiller deals coming in, but he'd get a good amount north of $5M at least for the upcoming season if his TD:INT ratio was turned around (or even a little less than that). These guys failed with the money - their money - on the line. They don't have anyone else to blame and, as you say, have both "made a sh*t-ton of money despite underwhelming results." They have to show they bring something to the table other than the optimism of youth, physical prowess, & huge upside, because neither has any of that. Agreed on all points. I meant the kick in the balls thing comes from having this great season and still being considered a fringe player, even on the open market. He had to believe that he had greater value relative to two, three years ago. But, based on his foray into free agency, he's about as valued as Nick Foles right now.
