That tells me Maccagnan has a trade available for Wilkerson that would free up our cap

QB Tom Brady's next extension is finally filed. It's 2 years, $41M with $28M to sign. Base salaries in 2015 & 2016 now $1M.

Piece of f*cking garbage

nice job by Brady.  wish some guys would actually do this more to free up space to get FAs

On ESPN, Ed Werder just said the Jets are offering less to Fitz than what Chase Daniel got (3 years 21 million with incentives)

The difference between Fitz and these other QBs who are getting big money, is those guys are getting paid on the hope that they turn into a franchise QB. They're young with potential.

Fitz is a well-traveled 33 year old journeyman with physical limitations. You're not building your team around him.

Good for Mac not caving in.

4-6 wins for the Jets next year.

They beat the Pats and Bills 3rd stringers in December.

Miss out on Watson.

SOJ.

Over 20.5K posts on another team's board...as Tony Montana once famously said "why don't you go work with blind kids....lepers...that sort of thing".

an incentive laden deal seems to be a good way to go for Fitz.  listening to Hahn and Humpty yesterday, a caller brought up a good suggestion that could be good for both.  offering a more long term contract with lower AAVs, giving Fitz the ability to transition from starter (this year, possibly next) to backup.  way to spread the money around and make everyone happy.

mccags does not want a lot of money committed to a qb who probably won't start beyond 2016.  it is interesting b/c it implies he has a plan there.  you have to assume it is not geno.  so who it is - petty, paxton lynch, connor cook?  who?

We signed Fitz to a one year contract last year at $3.25M.  If he wants to Triple, or Quadruple his salary, he's nuts.

He set records for our club, yes.  But he didn't light the league on fire.  He was a solid player, and a great chemistry fit for our locker room.  But he's also the kind of player that is going to run head first into a MLB and break a collarbone.  We can't afford to spend big on a high risk investment, when the returns are what they are; he's a ten-win QB who needs a strong support cast to win games.

Fitzpatrick (2015): 335/562 (59.6%)  3,905 yards, 31 TDs and 15 Int.

Was told the "definitely have their eye on a quarterback" in this draft.

Not FA related but

reading between the lines that's the real message.  the jets could well draft lynch in the first, or prescott or cook in the 2nd.  the last thing mccags wants is to be held hostage by the fitzpatricks of the nfl or to have to hope geno smith pans out.  the jets are taking a qb in the first 2 rounds.

Exactly. That's always been the plan, which is exactly why the brass isn't budging on Fitz. They have a number in mind that they're willing to pay for a seat warmer and that's it.

they came to the jets knowing they need a qb.  nothing has changed.

in terms of predicting their 1st round pick, if you believe mccags' philosophy holds true, they won't take OL or RB.  wr is not a big need now, neither is DL.  they loaded up on secondary help last FA and if milliner gives anything, they're good there.  that leaves qb and olb as the main targets in the first.

Tom Bradys new contract, he is paying the pats $10 mill a year to play for them thus reducing their cap by that amount.  There are 12 new Brady brand hot dog vendors in the gillete however.

Woody should learn a few things about paying guys off the books. Gronk's basically playing for free next season.
