Really, everyone should take the 5 minutes to read it and forget the above quote because it's not what the article is about. Lots of thought put into it from someone who fully tracks how these things go down around the league. Certainly more than >99% of us would spend time examining. Maybe 1 or 2 things I'd put differently or don't totally agree with, like the one line you quoted (I don't think we'd be 3-13 with Fitzpatrick next year) but again, that line has almost nothing to do with what the rest of the article is about. Without being a numbers-heavy bore, it gets into why paying too much for a QB is more than just a couple of bucks' difference between 1 QB and another on the salary cap in the short term. So far, at least, Maccagnan is playing this 100% correctly. You can bring Fitz back, and even go into the season with him as the starter. You cannot bring Fitz back on the multi-year, guaranteed starter contract that Fitzpatrick is seeking. Jason, if you see this post, awesome job buddy! It's why I've been one of the biggest nay sayers about paying Fitz anything more than 6-8 mil. He's been barely serviceable for a decade sauf under one OC who also made Tyler thigpen look like Hercules. Every GM in the NFL knows it. The implications of getting carried away could all but alienate the front office and put us in unnecessary financial hardship Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

You know I've heard that the Patriots are able to get a home discount on Brady just about every year, because Brady owns this water company and the Pats buy that water for concessions, players, etc. which he makes a fortune off of, but that doesn't count as compensation that counts against the cap. Paradis
Quote Ryan Fitzpatrick - QB - Free Agent The New York Daily News' Manish Mehta reports the Browns and Rams aren't interested in free agent Ryan Fitzpatrick. With Cleveland and Los Angeles not willing to make a substantial investment in Fitzpatrick, it appears the Jets are bidding against themselves. That would seem to be why the two sides are at a "stare-down" in negotiations. Fitzpatrick wants more and is trying to find a team willing to give him more, but the Jets have no reason to up their offer until some other club gets involved. The Broncos could enter the mix, but they seem focused on Colin Kaepernick.
Greenseed4
One year contract: $3.25M he wants to QUINtiuple it?! No. $6.5M per for two years should be his number. He's not the future, he's the back-up competition guy brought in to insure Geno, and assist rookie development. He played up-and-over his contract so gets rewarded with a 100% raise for two years. That's fair.

Beerfish
I wonder what the Jets are going to do if anything to get a bit more cap room. The initial Fa feeding frenzy is over, there are still a fair number of decent players out there who thought they were going to get paid but are now sitting by the phone. There will be some very good 2nd/3rd tier fa bargains out there. Right now we don't have two nickels to rub together however.
