Problem with that hope is Forte is a stand-up guy so it wouldn't happen.

He is looking for the biggest pay check (not that I am knocking it)?

Well, you could re sign Powell, or let Powell go, get another comp pic, and draft a RB.

Forte was cut, so he shouldn't count against future picks.  Hoping for another LT situation.  Great locker room guy, over 1000 combined yards.

Forte was cut? When did this happen?

Was he cut, or did his contract just expire?   I may be wrong.  It would only be the 958243rd time that has happened.

I was pretty sure his contract expired and he was a total and complete UFA who cancels out against any 1 UFA we lose (like Snacks, for instance).

So we'd better lose at least 4 more UFAs to other teams otherwise this signing just cost us a 4th round draft pick next year lol.

Then yes, we are losing some sort of comp pick.  Although Snacks for over 9 a year is big.  And losing Ivory for 6 to sign Forte for 4ish should still get something, maybe a 6?

Doesn't work like that. Any UFA signing can cancel out any UFA loss. They only try to match them up if there are more losses than gains. If it comes to pass that Snacks is the only UFA we lose and Forte is the only UFA we win, then they cancel out and we get nothing. Wouldn't matter even if Harrison's compensatory pick was valued at a 4 and Forte at a 5. They cancel.

Edit: Never mind. Just saw you also mentioned losing Ivory. Yes, most likely Forte and Ivory would cancel each other out and we'd get a pick for Snacks. But they're all both in the same 4th round comp pick range, and Forte a 5th. If that's the case and if we lose a FA to a 5th round contract, then they try to match them up. They wouldn't cancel out a 3rd round comp pick because we signed Forte unless that 3rd rounder was the only UFA we lost.

A combination of Marshall, Decker & Forte on the field at the same time puts incredible pressure

on a defense.  You're basically trying to cover 3 WR's

One of whom can kill with a draw play.  Forte will be great in the Jets offense.

Not that it's any slam dunk Fitzpatrick returns, but the difference in Fitzpatrick with and without Powell at his disposal was night & day. Partly because of the type of QB Fitz is (his RB is always his #2 target) but a great outlet out of the backfield is of enormous help to any QB. He's especially useful with Gailey as our OC no matter who the QB is (ok, almost no matter who).

Huge asset to have, dropping back that many times and there's someone who catches everything who's always open if no one else is. $5M is well worth what he brings to the table on a >$150M salary cap.

Well it should be a big help for a QB that can't throw accurately past 20 yards
