Gotta love how they were showing this guy get absolutely manhandled by olinemen in his epsn highlight reel. Way to swing for the fences with the draft and pass on Jack.

Why not draft Jack in the 2nd round? Or 3rd the way it's going?

I just watched film on Lee.  I saw an undersized guy that gets swallowed up by O-Lineman, has no violence in his game, and doesn't make anywhere near enough plays. Huge bust potential.  Color me very nervous about this pick.

send macc your resume, lol

If you liked this pick you belong with people who also like dry tuggers and Nickelback.

a dry tugger can work if you're on a long drought, but you take that nickelback crap back !

It's eery.

Deone Bucannon (6'1, 211) 32.5" arms, 9 3/4" hands

4.49 Forty, 19 reps bench, 36.5 inch vert, 125 inch broad, 6.96 three-cone, 4.26 twenty-shuttle

Drafted #27 overall

Darren Lee (6'1, 232) 33.25" arms, 9 3/4" hands

4.47 Forty, 17 reps bench, 35.5 inch vert, 133 inch broad, 7.12 three-cone, 4.20 twenty-shuttle

Drafted #20 overall

Bucanon NFL stats:

2014: split time at Strong Safety

9 starts: 88 tackles, 2 sacks, 2 pass deflections, forced fumble

2015: Converted to "Moneybacker" ($LB)

16 starts: 112 tackles, 3 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries, 3 passes defensed, interception for TD

This pick reeks of Todd Bowles.  And I guess that's okay.

Lee had an excellent showing at the Combine, testing at or near the top in the 40 (4.47 seconds), vertical (35 1/2 inches), broad jump (11-1), three-cone (7.12 seconds) and 20-yard shuttle (4.20 seconds). The athletic, rangy Lee is versatile enough to drop back into coverage, attack ball carriers or blitz the QB. He may be considered a bit undersized, but he has the instincts and the tools to be a solid pro.

Plus if you're gonna whip it out in your office and rub one out in a hurry you can't risk getting lube all over your pants.

I think that explains the look on fitz' face in your avatar :-)

Really don't understand all the hate of this pick, the guy is a better prospect then Ryan Shazier was coming out of OSU a little less athletic but a overall better prospect, if Shazier can be a stud ILB in a 3-4 Lee can too.

Shazier comp is perfect.

Trying to wrap my head around why people wouldn't like this pick , and thinking they just don't know anything about him.

Hes not lining up on the LOS, think D. Davis but 100x better

I like that he's fast. I don't like that he had 3 1/2 sacks last year. I hope this Buckeye LB turns out better than the last one.

He's not a traditional pass rusher.  Demario Davis replacement.

Not that the "experts" are always right but they all seemed to think he was going to before us at 20. BPA by Mac and a player that fits Bowles system perfectly and some of you are still crying about this pick because you wanted a flashy WR or a LBer with injury issues that no other team wanted in the 1st.

Tony Pauline had him as 13 best player in the draft:

Walterfootball's Mock had him going 17:

Kiper had Lee going 13 to the Fish in one of his last mocks:

CBS had him ranked 11:

He's 232 pounds. That's very small for a 3-4 inside linebacker.

There are plenty of players at that size in that position with success in the NFL right now.  I also think we'll see more 4-3 this year with keeping Wilk around.

Also he went from 197-232 in college, I fully expect him to put on another 10-15lbs of muscle with a year in a NFL conditioning program.

Players tend to lose speed when they pack on mass. If it doesn't impede his sideline to sideline ability, he could be great. Seems risky to me, but aren't they all? I'll defer to the front office since I don't have a strong opinion of the player one way or another.

And Miles Jack is only 225 and was projected to go number one overall before his injury.  Jaylon Smith is only 229 pounds.  This is not your Fathers NFL; the modern pass happy NFL requires fast, athletic linebackers to cover slot receivers, backs h-backs and TEs.    Lee is the prototypical sideline to sideline linebacker for todays' NFL

So I've just woke up to find we've drafted a Big Saftey, skipped on Lynch, forgot the wideouts, left the tackles. Colour me unimpressed, the guys not even going to start.

It's going to be a long season.

I have a feeling it will get worse by Saturday night.

Bowles on Lee's Size:

“I’m happy with his weight right now,” Bowles said. “He doesn’t have to be a 240 (or) 250-pound linebacker. That’s not what we were looking for. We were looking for a more athletic guy that had some speed and can play three downs and can go side-to-side and be versatile.”
