Wide Receiver Specific Traits

Separation Skills 2 Speed creates cushion and relatively big target with defenders on his back underneath. Does a good job of getting inside leverage and an adequate job of using his frame to box out defenders on slants. Above average adjusting routes against blitz and when the initial play starts to break down. Room for improvement when it comes to release but has the strength and length to get better. Flashes ability to separate with hands and upper body fakes at the top of stem but footwork is too a choppy at top of stem and needs to streamline routes.
Ball Skills 3 Tracks the deep ball and appears comfortable making over-the-shoulder catches. Caught the ball well at the combine and shows the ability to pluck the ball out of the air on tape but doesn't always field it cleanly. Traps too many passes. Has body control to adjust to back shoulder passes. Excellent catching radius. 34-inch arms and slightly above average vertical. However, doesn't always time jumps well and fails to establish good body position fighting for jump balls.
Big play ability 2 Reportedly ran in the 4.3s at his Pro Day and has the second gear to take the top off the coverage. Needs to get stronger and improve ability to make 50-50 plays downfield but has the length and frame to get better. Doesn't make many defenders miss but smooth transition and has the burst to threaten after the catch. Flashes an effective stiff arm and the ability to pick up yards after contact even though he runs high.
Competitiveness 2 Plays with an edge and doesn't back down when defenders try to intimidate him. Above average effort with the ball in his hands and fights for yards after contact. Effort is a touch inconsistent but an outstanding blocker when he plays motivated and angry. Violent punch and will shove defenders back down once he gets them on the ground.

Finally healthy and put up numbers in his senior season, Peake is as good as it gets in the 7th round.

Dude's physical traits are off the hook. He was compared to Watkins, Hopkins and Co.  He can fly which definitely opens things up.  Exciting prospect!  Me Like!

6-2, 209 lbs, 4.45 40 time (ran 4.37 at pro day).  Gets to learn behind Marshall and Decker.  This is fantastic.  I can almost see it already, 2018, Hack, DSmith, Peake, with Decker still working the slot.  High hopes ahead!

That 3rd overall pick in 2019 tho.....

Everything I just read said he was projected 3-5.  So I guess that's a good thing.  Surprised Rex didn't take him.

He would have gone 1st round if not for being slowed down by 2 knee injuries.

Named as one of the top 15 players in the country coming out of high school, big things were expected from Peake when he arrived at Death Valley. However, injuries and other rising stars (DeAndre Hopkins, Martavis Bryant and Sammy Watkins) held off his explosion on the scene until late in his career. Peake played in 14 games as a true freshman (4-71 receiving, 2-22 kick returns) and started two of 13 games played in a sophomore campaign (25-172, two TD receiving). Peake started the first two games of the 2013 season (8-84, one TD) before tearing his ACL in a September practice. He took a medical redshirt that season, and eventually made his way back onto the field the next season (four starts in seven games, 12-129, two TD receiving). Finally healthy and fully utilized with Deshaun Watson running an excellent Clemson offense that pushed the Tigers to the national championship game, Peake had the best year of his career in 2015 (50-716, five TD).

Comp picks will make that uneven trade a wash.

Rich Cimini ESPN Staff Writer

Jets GM Mike Maccagnan, explaining why he traded a 2017 fourth-round pick to take OT Brandon Shell in the fifth, said he was willing to part with the pick because he expects compensatory picks in '17. That softens the blow. He said they liked Shell so much they almost picked him in the fourth. "We thought the player has a lot of ability and potential," he said.

Italics is decidedly good for emphasis.

Beyond that, we'd have to be so incredibly overloaded at a position for any prospect to fit neither at a starting position of need nor for depth. Like drafting a CB when we already have 10+ of them under contract, or something like that.

what about drafting a punter when there isn't a punter on the roster ?

that would almost seem like a special teams need.

if teams truly drafted BPA, then after about 1,440 drafts (assuming 18 teams since 1936) wouldn't there be at least one draft where a team came away with 4 guards, 3 fullbacks and a kicker ?

its weird how that never happened
