That "Leak" Was Significant

He did well.  Then the ultimate test came and with the playoffs on the line, win and in and he played his worst game.

You want to dispute it, go ahead.

Not disputing he choked in the 4th quarter in Buffalo ... As Carl says, playoffs were on the line the 5 games prior as wel ... He put up good numbers & went 5-0 in those games .... So he was 5-1 with playoffs on the line .

surprised to hear you acknowledge that ... Perhaps you are growing as a person

There's no ticking clock here.  The Jets have made it clear they don't care how long it takes, they are taking Fitz back and he'll be the starter.  They've gone to such extreme to make the entire world (including Fitz and his agents) aware that he's their top priority (more than Mo) and that he'll be the starter...He knows he can wait right up until training camp and see if he can get more money.

I do agree with leak wasn't a coincidence after the Decker thing, but that is an absolute Woody PR move.  He was afraid of bad press so they leaked that the Jets already folded and offered more than most thought.

If Fitztragic actually won the Bills game.(he singlehandedly lost it) AND reverted to his mean .........the most important game of his career(NEVER been in a playoff game

IF he had won that game...he would have all the leverage in the world.....he didn't ...he chit the bed...as usual.

It would surprise no one if he were resigned to go 1-4 ..be pulled and that's that.

JETS organization.....DO NOT DO THIS......his body of work speaks for itself........lets work with what we have geno, petty, hackenburg. THERE IS NO WIN NOW WITH FITZTRAGIC

.....it's a complete waste of a year and we still don't know what we have for qb.......as far as Marshall,Decker,Forte 's age and how much they have left.........zero craps given. This is a game of QB's.  And if you don't find an answer you got nothing.

Welcome to the board.

We know what we have in Geno and Petty and so does the organization. I am not a Fitz fanboy but I would rather see him under center then Geno, and woul rather have Hack learning from Fitz than Geno that's for damn sure. If Fitz doesn't sign the deal or still wants to play games then F him.

It does piss me off because he is acting like he is a top 10 talent and is lucky a team still wants him as a starter at his asking price.

Cimini claiming it's 3 for 24.  That's basically a 1 year deal. That's obviously Fitz's  issue

He should be happy with a deal like that. If he had another decent season and we cut him he might have half a chance of signing elsewhere.

For the past 5-6 months whenever Maccagnan or Bowles was asked about
Fitzpatrick's contract they always said they wouldn't negotiate through
the media.  Now all of a sudden after Decker makes a "statement" by not
showing up for OTA's this info comes out???  If you think that's a
coincidence you're crazy.  This could mean the organization has started
the clock on how long they are willing to wait for Fitzpatrick to sign
the deal.  As far as the 12 million in the first year is concerned people
need to realize that DOESN'T mean the annual value of the deal is 12
million.  To get the cap hit of the deal to a reasonable number the first
year is probably paying Fitzpatrick a salary of 3 million with a signing
bonus of 9 million.  In total Fitzpatrick would have 12 million in hand but
our cap hit would only be 6 million.  In addition the 12 million in the
first year sends a couple of messages:

- To Fitzpatrick it says thanks for 2015 and you're our starter in 2016.
But at 34-35 years old you aren't our long term answer

- To the media it says shut up about us being cheap

- To the team it shows they are being more than reasonable

It's going to be interesting to see how this plays out now that the team
has finally "responded" after all these months

There's a whole other dynamic in all of this that I feel you are missing........ I copied/pasted this from another thread and I truly believe this bears watching..

This is becoming a gigantic powder keg as time goes on.....

If the Jets want to sign Fitz, it's going to apparently cost them more than what was in discussion in this forum. The benefit of that is at least the Jets go down fighting with their best players. Based on the schedule and various other factors this team will not be good this season. But with Fitz, you can honestly say at least they had their very bet and it wasn't good enough.

If Mac opts to move on from Fitz altogether? If he decides Geno is his guy? That could possibly sign both Mike MacCagnan and Todd Bowles death warrant. Jets season ticket holders/fans got a taste of good QB play and a winning season last year. Jets season ticket holders have a powerful lobby right now. They just got done wrecking John Idzik's NY career. If Mac spurns Fitz and his money demands and goes with Geno and Geno plays like he always does? Do not be surprised if a LOT of the fan base turns on Mac/Bowles. 3 to 4 million is viewed as chump change in terms of NFL contracts. If that's what causes the Jets and Fitz to reach an impasse, the fan base may not like that very much.

So this is a very explosive situation that bears watching, many careers could be at stack in this. Not just Fitz career, but also the front office.

Look, basically after getting a ride last year after a good season, some excellent deals (like to acquire Fitz and Marshall) but spending almost our entire cap at one time and leaving us with not much left for 2016 plus a draft in 2015 that seems to be overrated: only 3 players out of 6 drafted actually played. I have to question Mac in terms of does he know what he's doing in terms of these long drawn out contract negotiations with Fitz and the logistics of these leaks if it's true they came from the Jets. I've never seen this before with a starting Qb that a team reportedly wants to come back. If they don't want the guy to return that's another story. And if they do reach a deal. Where's the money coming from. They have 3 mil left and still haven't signed Lee. Mac might have past scouting experience but does he have a background in negotiating contracts and managing a salary cap? Of course the Jets have people in their FO with experience at that. But he's in charge of the operation.

You want to talk, tell me how the records by WRs are Fitzs records?

Not hate, reality.  Fitz set the record for TD passes.

And you attribute that to having "no running game". Isn't that a credit to Fitz? He and Marshall carried this offense for chunks of the season. Something we've only seen out of the QB position maybe 2 times previously in this century.

Pretty sure a huge part of a QBs job is to throw TD's, and he did a fantastic job of that last season. Or maybe we're all just taking crazy pills here.

How did he do the 5 weeks before that with playoffs on the line ?

Did he get his team into the playoffs?  Or with a chance to get in by beating a below .500 Bills team did he play like shlt and miss for the 11th straight year?

You can argue, call people wrong all you want. Don't know what your argument is.  We're the ones who are right, not you. He missed his shot.  He's 0 for 11, you can dream it will change all you want but that's his record.

Guess we should just scrap the whole team except Geno than, because the whole team played like shot that day. Geno probably would have, he just sat the bench.....

Whether you care to acknowledge it or not, the Jets BEST chance at winning in 2016 is with RYAN FITZPATRICK as QB. If Mac goes with Geno as QB in 2016 it will almost certainly seal his fate. He'll likely get fired within two seasons. Going with Geno would be the single largest mistake Mac could possibly make. The playoffs are not happening in 2016 anyway, this team isn't good enough.

Other than I've never said Geno is good, has been good, will be good you'd have a point,. You can't distinguish between Let's see what Geno can do since we what Fitz did a year ago.  You can't argue what he accomplished, because other than 31 TDs he accomplished nothing.  Fitz didn't get it done, no matter how much you try to claim he accomplished.  So it's onto bringing Geno into it argument.  Or to go full child and give us a scrap the whole team comment,

All I've ever said is that the difference between Geno and Fitz is negligible and. OT worth 12 mil.  You can make up your own argument, put words in my mouth, whatever makes your day.

The Bills have beaten us 4 times in a row. They were going into the season talent wise rated higher than the Jets. They obviously match up well against us. One of the things that raised the bar for us and made us competitive was Fitz. We won 5 in a row. Not many teams won six in a row. It's not that easy physically or mentally. But we were in that game (and on the road- our home record was a lot better) even though outplayed. It would have been cool to win it ugly. All good teams win games like this. On that day we weren't good enough.  I'd like to see Fitz return but I'm concerned Mac and Woody are going to blow it. Why not let Bowles negotiate with Fitz. You know he wants him back.

NONSENSE. I never said Fitz can get it done. NEVER. But Fitz is the NYJ BEST chance at winning in 2016. That's a fact that will be acknowledged through time. And yes, Mac getting fired by playing Geno is most certainly possibility. Is it likely? Probably not in 2016, but if he plays Geno and the Jets suck in 2016 (Which they will suck regardless of who plays QB, but far worse with Geno), it will constantly be brought up at the of the 2017 season how Mac ruined 2016 by starting Geno and burning Fitz.

The Jets season ticket holders signed John Idzik's death warrant. Woody appeased the season ticket holders by blowing up the entire front office. Woody did what the fan base wanted. Don't think for even one second that it cannot happen again. And if Mac starts Geno and he becomes the same immature idiot with the football and Jets go right down the tubes? Mac will be treading on seriously thin ice.

if it is true, its a stupid structure and fitz is right not to sign it.  it would make more sense to do a 1 year deal with a team option for a 2nd.  at least be honest with it.  you aren't going to fool a veteran agent and harvard economics and math grad with a dumb deal like that, lol

Ivory wasn't too bad?? 81 yds on 6 carries And David Harris had 2 sacks.. Tyrod Taylor had no td passes but 1 td rushing. Going into the 4th quarter the Jets only trailed 19-17.. Fitz couldn't even manage a FG in the 4th..

I don't think Mac gets fired for starting Geno this year but agree the possibility exists, it also pushes him all in on a QB in 2017 or he does not make a 4th year

Possible 2016 outcomes with Geno starting

1 - Geno plays well, rookies do not get playing time and the team has to resign Geno or another hold the fort guy (same as 2016)...

2 - Geno implodes and one of the rookies steps up giving hope but would still need to sign a vet to continue the development of the young QB

3 - Geno implodes, rookies implode and Mac is forced to trade the farm to move up for the franchise QB (now he is all in)

Mac was executive of the year in 2015?? Tanny lasted for 8 years and made some major blunders and you think he's on the hot seat?? Only hot seat he's  on is if he spills his coffee on it first..

Thought those were "team" wins remember? But since you asked ...

Almost lost to Giants. Needed a 4th & 2 Tom Coughlin brainflub at Jets 4-yard-line and a shanked FG to filch a win in OT 23-20.

Almost lost to Cowboys. Couldn't put away practice squad QB Kellen Moore until :41 left with a Bullock FG to win 19-16.

Almost lost to Patriots. Couldn't put away a decimated Pats cover band in regulation and needed a gift OT coinflub to thwart NE 26-20.

the facts are you're still incapable of reading what I wrote and comprehending the words.  You have to make it something it's not.

And no, no matter how many times you make a dumb statement, it's not true.  Macc will never get fired for Geno failing.  He may get fired if Fitz starts and sucks it up with the playoffs on the line.  Again.  His guy, the guy he brought in, twice.

Not Geno.

season ticket holders did nothing.  Idzik is gone because he didn't get it done and didn't look like a guy who ever would.  You should actually go to games, it's a different mindset than loud mouth fans on a board who want to fire everyone immediately.

Nice spin.  Wrong though. They could have lost in say week 11 and still made the playoffs. Could have lost weeks 11 and 13 and still made the playoffs.

If KC lost a couple we would have got in.  Learn the game

no matter how many times you say something different to ease the pain of week 17.

It wasn't a refusal to spend money. It was a decision to hold it for a season and then spend more wisely. I think his thinking was that the Jets would be more competitive in 2015 than in 2014. He wouldn't have given Revis that 39 mil deal unless Woody made him do it. You're seeing that some of his picks aren't looking so bad over time either. If Mac loses his starting Qb over a few million bucks this is a big deal. One of the key reasons we won last year was because of his acquisition of Fitz. He had a career year and it would be crazy not to keep him.

I may be alone in not killing Fitz for hesitating, but none of us know for sure exactly how the offer is written up. He knows this is his last chance to cash in and he definitely deserves at least a little security after setting and coming close to multiple franchise records last year.

It is basically a one year contract. The Jets can make the last two years more palatable by adding 'incentives' that increase his earnings if he retains the starting job. If he is the starter he deserves to be paid like one. Not like a superstar, but within reason.

Fitzpatrick passed up $36M offer from Jets

The team offered the veteran a three-year deal — featuring a $12 million guarantee in the first season — several months ago, the New York Post and Newsday reported Friday.

The Post indicated Fitzpatrick could earn up to $36 million (including incentives) over the length of the contract. A pact averaging $12 million a year would place him 23rd among NFL quarterbacks and one slot behind the Rams’ Nick Foles ($12.25 million per year).

The package remains on the table, the Post reported, despite the Jets having just $3.58 million in cap space available this year, according to the NFL Players Association.

Initial estimates put the Jets’ offer at approximately $7 million to $8 million a year around the time Fitzpatrick became a free agent in March.

Fitzpatrick, 33, is hoping to cash in after earning $3.25 million while firing a franchise-record 31 touchdown passes last season. He also threw for 3,905 yards and guided the Jets to a career-best 10-6 mark, although the team did not make the playoffs. It was the first winning season of Fitzpatrick’s 11-year NFL career that also has seen him play for the Rams, Bengals, Bills, Titans, Texans.

Jets head coach Todd Bowles has remained committed to wanting Fitzpatrick as his starter, with Geno Smith, Christian Hackenberg and Bryce Petty battling for backup roles on the depth chart.

The impasse has dominated the team’s off-season storyboard. Wide receivers Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker and center Nick Mangold — who have said they want to see Fitzpatrick return — have been missing from voluntary OTAs, with the Post reporting Decker’s absence was meant to protest the Jets’ failure to re-sign the quarterback.
