Fitz wants to maximize the amount of money he makes while he still has the ability to play in the NFL. That's called common sense. He's stuck in a contract dispute with the Jets where he has no leverage. Or shall I say, he has no leverage AT THIS POINT IN TIME.

Things could be very different after the 2016 season. If they are? Fitz wants to renegotiate and maximize his earnings. He cannot do that right now because he happens to have no leverage. So signing a 1 year deal with the Jets makes a huge amount of sense for guy a that very clearly believes in himself.

The Jets have ZERO leverage on the amount of yeas Fitz signs for even right now. The Jets want to get Fitz on the cheap for multiple years and Fitz is saying, where I have no leverage right now I'll settle for your offer. But I'll bet I'll have much better luck getting more money in FA after the 2016 season.

If he wants a 1-yr deal so bad, the Jets would probably be willing to give it to him. For $8M.

At least we're starting to hear where negotiations stand.

It will either be a lesser one year deal (which could very well lead to the same situation next year) or they''ll compromise on a two year deal. I think the latter is the most likely. He will be a Jet.

so let me get this straight.  fitz rejects a multiple year contract where he's guaranteed 12M year 1, but welcomes a 1 year deal for 12M.  the jets do not want a 1 yr deal b/c of how it impacts the cap; if fitz takes the multiple year deal, it's better for the jets cap situation this season.

what i read into this is, the jets want fitz around next season to help hackenberg (with fitz as the backup), while fitz does not want to be a backup next season and therefore would prefer the 1 year deal.

Macc is being a dick .  Who locks themselves into backup money?

Perhaps a backup?  Whether he likes it or not, no one but the Jets seem to have any interest in Fitz as a starter

While I can understand Fitz's thoughts on why he'd be willing to take only the best part of the Jets' offer, there's also good reason for the Jets to not see that as some sort of great compromise.  The whole idea behind the Jets willing to up their offer over what they previously had as his perceived value is the additional long-term benefit that they would get along with it.  That money would be part of a future investment they would be making, so they have no reason to agree to such an increased spending while receiving no benefit in return.  The supposed "concession" Fitz seems to be willing to take appears to be entirely to his advantage, considering regardless of how much he may want, no one is offering anything close to the Jets.  If he's nothing more than a one-year placeholder, then you simply don't pay that much money for such a player.

I don't even blame Fitz for trying to get as much as he wants, but the idea that he's making some sort of sacrifice here isn't the reality, and the Jets have little reason to let that influence them.

It is pretty clear the Jets do not see him as a starting QB for multiple years- he thinks he is- there is your stalemate. Who waivers first

yep, that's basically what i said above.  fitz's problem is that soooo many teams have drafted qbs high in recent years, teams that have traditionally had qb problems.  so now teams like the rams, jags, raiders, vikings, texans and even the jets, they have qbs of the future.  fitz had 1 good year and he thinks the league's perception of him has changed but it hasn't.

Neither.  Fitz will not be a Jet again.

(If I say it enough, does it help make it reality?)

Gotta think its FItz. The Jets didnt waiver when there were actual teams in the market that could have taken him. No reason to waiver now.

This is like hooking up with three chicks at the bar.  One is a 200lb beast but her two friends are cute, so you go along with it.

They take you back to their place.  The words "orgy" and "foursome" are being used.

Once things heat up, the two cute chicks leave the room and you're left with the Rob Ryan lookalike.  Not cool!

1st year @12mil = the fat chick

2nd and 3rd years @6mil = the two cute chicks

No one bones the fat chick w/o the cute ones.

A brilliant analysis. How'd you even conceive of that one. You get my vote for Post of the day on this one.?

Ha, wish I could say I thought of it out of no where.  But sadly, it's a true story.

That's why the 1 year deal makes sense. He's not going to start then lock in for backup.money
