When he negotiated with his team they made him the highest paid defensive player contractually along with guaranteeing him more real money. Going into free agency having multiple people bidding for his services would have most likely up'd the price, but that doesnt mean that he got hosed, that just means that when you have multiple teams bidding on you, you tend to have teams bidding against one another...inflating the price, not really bidding on you.
