Jaguars: Allen Hurns 4 year $40M extension

Plus another $4M available in incentives. $20M guaranteed.

I know this has nothing to do with the Jets, but holy crap that's a lot of money.  Undrafted rookie in 2014, starts 8 games that year, then starts 14 games in 2015. In year 2 he has a 1000-yard, 10-TD season and gets this massive instant payday?

Hey, amazing awesome for him, but wow. That's some cash.

The Jags are gonna be legit in a year two.

Great young receiver corps

Great quarterback, whom hasn't even reached his potential yet

Defense that was missing pieces, but added Myles Jack, Ramsey, and getting their pick back from last year

Only thing on that team that may be weak is the offensive line, but as we saw last year Bortles can still do good without a good one.

When the Broncos and Patriots are done in a couple years, it will become the Jaguars and Raiders show

Nope, it's going to be the Geno and the Jets show

Just looked up his college highlights, he seems pretty good, but kinda small for a TE

Good call, Jags and Raiders will be the best 2 teams in the AFC very shortly.

Very impressive how they are both building their teams.

If this constitutes alot of money for an athlete, an ascending, young, healthy one at that - likely to be well worth it even by mainstream standards barring catastrophe, then be happy he chose the NFL. An equivalent 24/25 YO in the NBA or MLB is likely crushing this deal.

In the Raiders' case, I can't help but wonder how they're going to sabotage their own efforts.  It feels like as long as the team is owned by the Davis family, it's going nowhere but maybe it's blind squirrel time for them.

I am rooting for the Jags though.

What is most meaningful here is that the Jags evaluated a player that they liked, and when they had the bargaining position extended him and locked him up longer term.  The Jets are letting too many players reach their contract expiration.  Once you do that, the team that then has extra money has the upper hand to sign the untethered FA.

This also has nothing to do with the Jets but wow this is your shortest post ever.

Normally takes you a few more paragraphs to drive your point home. :)

No. This one is shorter.

I was referring to the first post in a thread you started. But I was trying to be concise so I left that part out, lol.

I like to make thread starters longer. This way it will discourage - if not eliminate - all discussion thereafter.

good player, but Allen Robinson will command even more $$

Possibly why they got something done with Hurns, who has actually been the steadier performer between the two over the first 2 years. While Robinson caught 14 TDs in 80 receptions last year, excellent, he only caught 2 in 48 receptions in 2014. Hurns' TD/Rec rate was only slightly worse last year with 10 in 64, and much better as a rookie 6 in 51. There's also less disparity between Hurns' rookie and second year YPC than Robinson's.

TD/Rec is one of the more predictive stats for WRs in the draft so there is a logic. Maybe it is not a flawless one and maybe they end up being wrong but at least there appears to be some rhyme and reason.

Thanks Idzik.  12 picks in that draft we we couldn't draft one legit young WR.  Meanwhile the Jags get a young stud who goes undrafted.  That 2014 draft really really set us back big time.  Not to pile on this topic again but it really shows what Macc walked into and why we need to be a little more patient.  We were a competitive team last year but we won't be a sustainable winner until we put together some good drafts and replenish the young talent.  Ok I'm done before this post goes completely off topic.

Ah, who the hell knows? The NFL is a crapshoot today. That Hurns contract alone could derail them, they have a lot of young talent that needs to get paid! Hurns is basically a #2 WR & you give him that contract. What's Robinson gonna want? Bortles? Ect. Plus they have to hope guys can recover from injuries on defense, some don't even think Ramsey can play CB in the NFL? Don't jump to conclusions. Raiders? Really amassing some good talent but they're not being coached by Bill Belichick. Not impressed by Del Rio.

The Jaguars like all states with no income tax have an unfair advantage under the NFL cap.( they can sign a player for less than a team that has a huge state income tax- player brings home more money.      The Jaguars have 45 million dollars they can roll over to next year salary cap.( again by far they will the most money again to play with in Fa in 2017).  That contract they gave Hurns has no longterm effect on their salary cap.

Jack Delrio has been as big a reason for the Raiders revival as Gm Reggie Mckenize.   Only way he was going to take the Raiders job if the Raiders( M Davis)  upgraded their facility ( outdated facility)- build a state of the art weight room+ workout area , build two new practice fields( upgraded the  one that was there) and hired 4 of the top trainers from the country top sports facility- doing cutting edge stuff.    That's fifty million the Raiders invested in their fAcility.( showed the players, and coaches they are serious about doing what it takes to win.

Jack Delrio has put together a first class coaching staff .  These guys are all teachers.   Give them a player that has talent( could have under performed ), and they will bring out the best he has.

So you think everything will just fall into place nicely & Raiders will rule the AFC West for years to come, Delrio is the awesome, their trainers are incredible, and their facility top notch..not surprised. Why are they talking about Raiders to Vegas again?

When two teams have that many young pieces that are already playing good, and haven't reached their ceiling yet, it's safe to assume they will become powerhouses.

this is the same way Seattle built their team, Carolina built their team, Arizona and Green Bay, Cincinnati and Minessota, and Pittsburgh.

you know, playoff teams that have young players with Franchise quarterbacks? They don't go spend a bunch of money on FA for 30 year old players like one team called the Jets.

Allen Robinson is currently a top 5 WR

He wishes. One year and he's up with Brown, Jones, Green and OBJ? It was likely an excellent season, but stuff like this is probably why it was just smart to be conservative and pay Hurns earlier.

Good for Hurns. Dude has been a beast since his first game in the league.

The Jags have a pretty exciting offense.
