Ex-Jets and current Jaguars running back Chris Ivory remains in the hospital and is "in pain" for unspecified reasons, according to a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Ivory missed the Jaguars' season opener on Sunday after he was admitted to the hospital. The Jaguars announced that Ivory was "doing well" and is expected to be released in the next "day or two." The team doesn't plan on releasing any additional information until then.

Ivory, 28, originally signed with the Saints as an undrafted free agent in 2010. He spent the first three years of his career with the team— he ran for 1,307 yards and eight touchdowns in 24 games— before being traded to the Jets in 2013. In New York, Ivory worked himself from a rotational back, to Pro Bowler, in three seasons.

Ivory ran for 833 yards and three touchdowns his first year with the Jets, and 821 yards and six touchdowns in his second. Last year, though, was the best year of his career. In 15 games, Ivory ran for 1,070 yards (most in the AFC) and seven touchdowns. He set career highs in receptions (30) and receiving yards (217), too.

With limited cap space, the Jets were unable to re-sign Ivory this offseason. The back signed a three-year, $35 million contract with Jacksonville.

The Jets replaced Ivory with ex-Bears running back Matt Forte. In his first game with the Jets, Forte was quite impactful. He led the team in both rushing and receiving and totaled 155 yards from scrimmage versus the Bengals.
