Background on Wesley Johnson

Just FYI....Wesley Johnson came in for James Carpenter last night and played well....some people may be wondering where he came from and how he came to be on the Jets.

He was a 5th round draft pick out of Vanderbilt for the Steelers in the 2014 draft.  He played OT at Vandy but projected inside in the NFL.  He originally made the Steelers roster but was cut in early 2014 - I think the Steelers were trying to move him to the practice squad.  But he was claimed by the Jets and spent all 2014 on the Jets active roster but didn't play (along with Ben Ijalana and Oday Aboushi - yes we carried inactive OLs all season).  He spent the 1st half of 2015 on the Jets practice squad but was called up to the active roster for the 2nd half of last year.  In 2016, he started the off season as the #2 center and played well in all the preseason games.  There wasn't really much talk of him not making the roster and, as expected, he was on the Jets 53 man roster to start this season.  To the best of my knowledge, last night was the 1st time he played Guard in a real NFL game.
