The Jets Unicorn (Tight Ends)

So what is with this team and tight ends on both sides of the ball. It's like the staff has absolutely no idea what this position is or how to deal with it.

They don't use a TE on offense and seem utterly mystified about how you stop one on defense. Perhaps, there should be a billboard that says, "Tight Ends. They do exist!"

Fitzpatrick in desperation yesterday did hit 1 of our slugs  in the hands and he dropped it.

Sera-Jenkins hopefully changes the TE position a QB needs a TE

And a TE needs a QB and the Jets don't have 1 . If Brandon Marshall has single coverage, Fitzpatrick locks onto him and throws the ball regardless of who else is open or maybe open . The thing is, he always throws a back shoulder pass hoping that Marshall will out muscle the defender . It's pathetic watching this guy play QB .

That play was a killer as well.   Needing some yards, needing a 1st down, needing a drive.  Hits the TE right in the chest and he drops it.   Killer.

We got beat by kelce and Graham two of the best tight ends in the game. Our secondary this year is pretty bad and we can only cover so many players. Lee was playing a lot of 1 on 1 against Graham and looked alright. As for us not using a te...enunwa is our te in everything but the label he has been filling the role.

I gotta agree on this. Top notch TEs will get theirs in the NFL. There really isn't anyone that can cover Jimmy Graham, Gronk, Kelce, Olsen, etc. It takes a group effort by the defense. Having said that, the Jets have been horrendous at covering ANYONE underneath. Its inexcusable. You simply cannot allow underneath passes, screens, and shallow drag routes to consistently beat you throughout the game- to the point where the other team can put together a long drive, control the clock and know that anytime they need 4-6 yards they can get it by tossing it to their TE or throwing a screen.

Lee seemed to be right in Graham's pocket most of the time he was assigned to him. But Graham is a 6'8 WR in a TE's body. Last time I checked, there are no 6'8 LBs in the NFL. Lee is a rookie and is still learning how to cover NFL LBs and TEs. He's still working on his recognition skills and getting used to the speed of the game. I think Lee has looked great as a rookie so far. He can;t be expected to stop some of NFL's top TEs.

As far as having a TE, I don't really see it as a major issue. Enunwa has filled that role offensively better than any traditional TE could. Gailey is not a dummy and he knows his offense and what it needs. If he felt they needed a more traditional TE that can be a playmaker on offense the Jets would have gotten one a long time ago. They probably would have given Amaro another chance, and if anything, they would have signed a TE who can catch rather than block, off the scrap heap for depth- maybe even Saxton.

Instead, Gailey has TEs that are primarily blockers and uses Enunwa as a receiving TE, while utilizing multiple WR sets in the passing game. There is nothing wrong with that, IMO. To suggest that the Gailey doesn't know how to use TE's is silly. He's one of the most experienced O-coordinators in the NFL and knows more about offensive football than everyone on this forum combined.

Starts TE-specific thread.

First word, in first response.

This one went dumb immediately.
