We draft guys that show a lot of potential in year 1-2, maybe 3-4, but man so many just get complacent or I don't know what.  They just don't continue to get better.  I don't think that's on any coaches, ever.  Guys need to work hard.  And when they think they're working hard, they need to work harder.  That's easier said than done but when you're getting paid or want to get paid, it should be easy.  You're only working for 10-12 years so suck it up.  "You can lead a horse to water but you can't get them to drink."

Even a busted clock is right twice a day.  Mo was really swinging that pot belly around last night, but who's to say he isn't going revert back to his sluggish self and go back into hibernation for the rest of the season.

The New York Jets' stock report looks at risers and fallers from their 38-31 win over the Kansas City Chiefs :

four down

DE Muhammad Wilkerson -- It's become an annual tradition: Wilkerson shows up late for a meeting, gets benched for a quarter and promises it won't happen again. It's getting tired.

Jets DE Muhammad Wilkerson, who was benched for a quarter because he was late for a meeting, refused to address the matter today. Actually, he declined to talk about anything other than the Broncos. When Wilkerson was benched last year for the same reason, he made an effort to make amends by apologizing and saying all the right things. Not this time. Maybe he has stopped caring what people think of him.

~ ~ He’s two years into the five-year, $86 million contract he signed in 2016, which contained $36.75 million in guarantees. The team was willing to listen to trade offers for him last offseason (a fairly quick case of buyer’s remorse), and may not be able to move his deal without restructuring.

If they cut him before the third day of the league year in March, they could avoid guaranteeing his 2018 salary of $16.75 million. If they did so, they’d take a $9 million dead money hit but clear $11 million in cap room. If they designated him a post-June 1 cut, they’d clear $17 million in room with a $3 million dead money hit.

Jets DE Muhammad Wilkerson is being benched because he showed up late this morning to the team meeting, according to a source. This is a chronic issue for Wilkerson, who continues to show he doesn't care anymore.. He shouldn't be allowed to play again this season and he should be cut in the offseason. And he will be.

He will go onto another team and be an NFL superstar while the Jets organization still looks for a decent QB and Macc and Bowles remain as the sh*ttiest GM and HC in the NFL.

The Jets have a decision to make on Wilkerson this offseason. They can cut him and move on in March without owing him the $16.75 million his contract calls for in 2018. It would also save them $11 million in salary cap space.

It's $17m even with the workout bonus. Plus it saves $17m (the amount they won't be paying him), not $11m.

He's clearly getting dumped. His entire extension was a stupid blunder, guaranteeing him $37m no matter what, with Mo already on year-to-year deals where he had to keep proving himself..

So all $17 million goes back in our cap space?  I thought only $11 million?

If the Jets cut Wilkerson before that guarantee kicks in, they would create $11 million in cap space, though they'd have to eat $9 million in dead money next season. Wilkerson's cap hit if he remains with the Jets in 2018 would be $20 million.
