Leberfeld: Geno not prepping to play

I mean can you imagine, he wanted to play! What a selfish pig.

Why the $$?  Geno didn't try and hold anyone up for 12 mil, a 8 mil raise.

I think its great that he wants to play, its the way he went about it that was the problem.  Pacing back and forth was quite immature and surely not the way to gain the respect of his teammates.  T.O. and Keyshawn were crucified for acting like that in the past - yet they were QBs who should show they can control their emotions and remain cool.

I did however, love the things Geno said in the post game press conference.  It was the most mature he has ever sounded.

The season is over.  May as well start Geno or Petty at this juncture.  Fitz can sit on the sidelines and count his money.as next year he will be retired.

You do need to stop reading the stat lines and calling these games decent.

Fitz can't get the team in the end zone. The league caught up to what the Jets were doing last year. It is over.

The league has caught up, so is it not on the coaching staff to adjust and put their players in the best position to make plays? It's not as if the offense is going to be run drastically different or play calls will be any different with a change at QB. There are failures at every level of these team and organization. If you want to make Fitz your scape goat, go ahead. It's easy to just yell and complain about the QB, but the roots of this team are rotten. And it's been obvious to anyone paying attention for quite some time.

This really shows what the coaches think about Geno.

Remember when Sanchez was setting records for sucking and Rex wouldn't let Greg McElroy play?
QFT
If they really think so little of Geno why keep him? Move on and quit wasting each other's time.
Says as much about what the coaches thought about Petty as above re: Geno

I wanted Geno to start the second half last night. But after seeing the temper tantrum he threw, he should have been escorted off the field. I lost all respect for Bowles and the coaching staff when they went ahead and put him in anyway.

Blow. It. Up.

It will be. On 3rd and 8 they will throw 9 yards. Geno did and he threw an int. But at least the punters leg didn't fall off lol.

Who cares? You don't like the guy so it's easy to be annoyed at a meaningless "temper tantrum".

For a journeyman quarterback, Ryan Fitzpatrick had a decent night against the #3 passing defense in the entire league.

If you think that was a decent night, you have very, very low standards.  Fitz was a steaming pile of horsesh*t.  Between his flutterballs and 30 foot high passes, no QB on this team can be any worse.

We all know that was a FD so please stop your crap. Bowles is an effing idiot not to have challenged that spot. Maybe he wanted the Jets to turnover on downs do it makes him look like he made the right choice staying with Fitz. Don't doubt that. It's amazing how Geno's 6 passes will come under the scanner way more than those 6 passes of Fitz' against the Chiefs.

You do remember why we overpaid a journeyman quarterback, don't you?

Never beaten an above 500 team on the road and that's in an 11 year career - there's no scapegoating , he just flat out sucks.  In the history of football how many QB's have played for 6 teams - he's a backup scrub QB and that's all he ever was. Good for him, he's snowed 6 different GM's into give him good coin for his pathetic performance . Now let him ride off into the sunset with his millions .

Cool. Great. Change the QB and everything will magically get better. Everything is Fitz' fault! Enjoy being right! Huzzah!

Putting Geno in is not going to change the fact that the Jets just flat out suck right now. The QB sucks, The OL sucks, The WR's suck, I would say the TE sucks but we don't have one. The LB's sucks, the secondary sucks, the coaching staff sucks, the owner sucks.

Petty will suck, Hackenberg will suck and the QB's they draft after that will suck as well.

The Jets have now joined the Knicks as the two most unwatchable teams in the New York Metropolitan area.

We all know its not completely on the QB. Almost every guy on this team including coaches have performed under par. But how can you watch the performance of Fitz and even argue he should be starting or worse yet give us the best chance to win. The guy is so limited it makes the offense look like a pee-wee offense where the QB can't throw for more than 10 yards. Geno/Petty/Hack may suck as well but at least it should open up the run game as right now 9-10 men in the box means the team is one dimensional and that one dimension is putrid.

At least @ me. Fitz is a problem. No one is denying that. How about Matt Forte? 41 yards/game these last 4 games and 3.2 yards per carry. Is that good enough for a team that needs a running game?

This is all true.  But you still make the change at QB.

I'm not arguing that at all. I am firmly of the opinion that the Jets should start prepping Petty to start ASAP. And defenses will continue to put those many men in the box against any of the Jets QBs because they know the offensive line is putrid. The Cardinals did nothing different on defense when Geno went in. Nothing.

Forte is shot.  He's done.  Powell is so much better it's not even funny.  To their defense, they're both also seeing 9 in the box.  Not just 8.  9!!!!  Why?  Because the QB is awful.  It impacts the run game.

I did literally start manically laughing when they opened the 2nd half with 2 dives for Forte.  It was one of the funniest things I've ever seen.  Could you imagine that half time conversation after scripting those 2 plays up????

This so much fun!

Folks Fitz he is done,he is really a good guy and a tough competitor. Yet, he no longer has the tools to compete at this level. Last night was a microcosm of his abilities, passes high, wide and behind his receivers. Last year his receivers bailed him out over and over and made him look good.
Opposing teams are going to do what many of us said they would, stack the box play tight man to man and dare Fitz to beat them. You all saw the results for yourselves last night.
It's time to go in a different direction, and if this CS chooses to not do this, they will all be looking for work next season.
Geno must be given a fair opportunity and not thrown to the wolves when the game is out of hand. He must be given a full week of practice with the starting unit and allowed to prepare as the starter.
At the same time Petty must be put into the backup role and allow to compete with Geno for the starters role. It's time for Fitz to become the 3 string emergency QB and mentor he was originally slotted for.
The Jets should start Geno on a very short leash, there are no more excuses for him. He has the physical tools to be successful in the job, but if he hasn't improved and continues to make stupid decisions he is done here. Even folks like me who want to give him a honest and fair shot, know when enough is enough.
For all the people who despise Geno and thought he acted incorrectly on the field last night, if he just stood like Bowels, you would have said he didn't care, just a no win with all too many of you.
If you would have seen his after game interview, you could clearly seen he has come a long way and gown up immensely.
So if Geno craps the bed and throws away his last chance with the Jets, then the choices become clearer and both he a Fitz will be gone next season.
Petty should then be put into the starters role and not pulled no matter how bad it might get.
Fitz is then once again put in the backup spot and Geno is the emergency #3 the remainder of the season.
Next season we bring in another Veteran as strictly a number 3 and mentor with Petty and Hack in competition to grab the starters spot.

I totall agree at this point. If you are going to go down in flames you might as do it in spectacular fashion

At this point, it's all about what you can takeaway from this season to help assess your roster and know what you have to do moving forward.

That was my contention this entire offseason on why we should walk away from Fitz, other than he sucks...but I digress.  Here we are.  Now its a matter of doing the right things for the future of the team.

Up 28-3 , 8 minutes left in the 4th qtr the Cardinals had two options. 1) Play passive prevent to keep the clock moving or 2) Stay aggressive and come after the QB , since they knew we'd be passing. They stayed aggressive like they did al night.

Agreed. I'd rather see Powell and the play calling all season has been mind numbingly terrible. I really doubt a QB switch is going to change the number of men in the box. I don't care how strong the other arms are, everyone knows you can blitz Geno all day and he'll come unraveled. And if it's Petty, you make him show something before you drop any kind of guys off the LOS.
