Are the Jets any better off than the Rex/Idzik regime?

Look Rex had six years and it was time for him to depart. 4 years no playoffs. And too much BS. Idzik to me should have gotten a third year without Rex. There were reasons other than on the field why he got fired. Notably that embarrassing presser. But Woody could have taken him aside and helped the guy in that department. He obviously was over his head in terms of working with the press. As for Mac and Bowles same thing. You have to give them at least three years. And actually like Idzik his first year the team was good in terms of record.

... We'd  be a much better football team.  But I can't imagine you believe that that is the only difference between starting and 10-1, and fourth string and a 3-8 team.

Have to add the affect of the market too. Dallas loves the Cowboys. The Jets are a second tier team

At this point we are in as bad of a spot as the 2013 team.  Bad cap situation, lack of talent, lack of young talent, and an aging team with no qb.  It's absolutely guaranteed that we have less talent next year than this year.

Macc might be a better drafter than Idzik, but he simply has to be willing to bite the bullet and allow the team to be bad for a few years to accumulate young talent and put money back in the coffers.

THe 2015 FA part was Maccs big mistake.  It was a short term fix that hurt our long term prospects and ultimately will be remembered as a disaster.

And the reason he did it? BEcause he knew that if went through a bad few years, he would be fired.

Just looked it up, Bills opponents record:

6-5 L

3-8 L

4-6-1 W

9-2 W (WITH 3rd string QB)

4-7 W

1-10 W

7-4 L

9-2 L

7-3-1 L

3-7-1 W

2-9 W

So they are 6-5, their wins are against teams with 23-41-1 Record including Pats with 3rd string QB

Take out that 9-2 and it becomes 14-39-1

Their 5 Losses are against a 32-22-1

Yes, PHENOMENAL JOB by Rex, of the typical Rex variety, the only way that loud mouth a$$hole does anything good is when the seas part and the planets align.

Whatever helps you feel better.  You can nitpick anything, if you want.

The Jets in 2017 can be worse than the Jets in 2014.  That is after 3 years of Bowles and Maccagnan.  I think individually they both could find success in the future in the NFL, but the two of them teamed with Woody seems like a grim proposition.   Woody did not know how good he had with Tanny to play with everyday.

The Jets need a credible person to oversee the GM and HC.  Could even be the true GM who oversees the HC.  Having a new limited HC report to Woody directly is moronic.  It would appear to be creating questionable decisionmaking.   The Jets need to commit to winning football, and let the business run separately.  That is what the Patriots and Steelers do, among others.   I don't see how the Jets next year are better than this year.  Maybe 2018 starts to improve with good drafts and smart signings of players in their mid-20s.   But next year can be just awful.

The only thing that will save us next year from being a total disaster is if we find a young qb alla Dak Preskot who can galvanize a city.  The odds are terrible, but it can happen.

We won't have a good team other than that, but at least it will be something to build on.  Right now our foundations  are terribly weak given how poorly our qb prospects and how little young talent we have in vital places like the OL.

http://www.espn.com/blog/new-york-jets/post/_/id/65308/take-a-minute-to-read-how-two-minutes-wrecked-the-jets-season

Hurry up and fail: You can learn a lot about a team by the way it handles a two-minute situation. Why? Because it shines a light on traits that often separate good teams from bad ones -- preparation, organization and game management. And talent, too, of course.

So how are the Jets faring in this department? They're the worst team in the NFL.

THE WORST.

The Jets have scored only 14 points in the final two minutes of each half while allowing 57 points. The minus-43 differential is dead last, according to ESPN Stats & Information. They've been outgained, 517-226, and their turnover margin is a big, fat minus-5.

And you wonder why they're 3-8?

The offense blew late-game chances against the Cincinnati Bengals, Miami Dolphins, Los Angeles Rams and New England Patriots. The defense collapsed against the Patriots, who actually scored the winning touchdown with just under two minutes to play.

Coach Todd Bowles preaches the importance of good situational football. This is not good situational football.

"We haven't made the plays that we made last year," he said.

No kidding.

Mac is better than Idzik for sure. Mac actually won exec of the year last year. Idzik was pathetic especially in the draft.

Bowles and Rex are about equal.  One is quiet the other is loud but both are 3-4 defensive guys who will go as far as the Qb takes them.  Firing either of these guys doesn't make the team better it just makes Tom Shane stop twitching for a couple hours.

Bowles can't hold Rex' jockstrap.

At this point in time, suggesting otherwise would be pretty much insane.  Bowles may very well post the same 4-12 record that Rex posted when he had over $20 million in cap space and a college linebacker starting at cornerback, forcing him to put a rookie Calvin Pryor in coverage and Geno Smith at QB who threw 4 pick 6's that year, and another one that was run back to the 1-yard line.

Fitz threw 31 TDs a year, Taylor has 31 the last 2 years.  Taylor is ok, he's in the Fitz range.

Bowles took over a 4-12 team loaded w/ cap space that spent a boatload, rex took over a paper 9-7 team that folded in their biggest games.  rex took over a franchise that hasn't been to the playoffs since 1999.  Buffalo has not made the playoffs this Century.

Rex is better, it's not close, it's not debatable.

Tyrod has been better in essentially every other category over the past two years. Rating, Interceptions, Completion percentage, Yards per attempt, Rushing yards, Rushing touchdowns. Tyrod has a better rating than Fitzpatrick over the past two years because frankly....he's a better QB. Put Decker alongside Sammy Watkins last year and the passing TD totals would have been reversed.

Here's an interesting debate, after an all too familiar Rex defensive collapse, the Bills face the Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Miami, and finish at the Jets.  Would you predict 3 wins so that Rex avoids his sixth consecutive non-winning season?  The fact that he's got his 6th straight non-playoff appearance coming is all but a foregone conclusion now.

Idzik had 12 picks in the 2014 draft.  He was already cutting guys from that draft before the 2014 regular season even began.  We only have 2 guys on the roster from that draft.  One of those guys was Enunwa who they had on the practice squad and the other Calvin Pryor.

Those Idzik drafts screwed this organization up royally.  The Hackenberg draft pick sounds like a disaster but we won't really know for a couple years.

We have two major issues in this organization:

1.  Our owner.  He made statements about Revis before we signed him and he even got a small fine for it.  I"m sure he had a role in the re-signing of Revis and he feels the need to always make changes to keep selling tickets.  This isn't the old stadium where people kept season tickets during the bad years because they would never get them back again.  We also have our coach and GM report to the owner instead of the coach reporting to the GM.  Woody basically picked Bowles as his coach before he even signed a GM.

2.  The fans.  Those Fire Idzik billboards were funny and the guy who did it managed to make himself boatloads of cash making his own website, selling shirts, having events, etc. but it scared some people from coming here.  Who wants to be a GM or coach here when they plaster your name to be fired on billboards after only 2 seasons.  Believe me Idzik needed to go but who wants to come here?

We can say let's can Bowles and Mac right now but good luck finding a GM or coach who wants to come here and knows there is a good chance if they have a bad season in the beginning of their career the fans will be calling for their heads.

There is a lot wrong with Bowles (I typed up a post last night, but apparently Fitzpatricked it and fell short of posting it) and he seems to be the ghost of the past three coaches combined.

-Admittedly doesn't pay attention to offense (ghost of Rex Ryan's past)

-Defense took a nose dive (ghost of Herm Edwards' past)

-Clock management issues (ghost of Herman Edward's past)

-Replay challenge issues (ghost of Rex Ryan's past)

-Lack of ability to bench veteran QB (Ghost of Mangini's past)

-Lack of accountability (ghost of Rex Ryan's past)

-Stoic, passionless mannerism (ghost of Mangini's past)

-Lack of ability to develop players (ghost of Rex Ryan on offense past)

-Lack of urgency (ghost of Rex Ryan's past)

Where does Bowles actually fit in better than any of these guys?  I understand not wanting to churn through coaches, but he's been absolutely terrible as a coach.

As for the criticisms, does anyone really think Fitzpatrick is sitting in his million dollar home browning the forums, weeping about the lack of support?  Sheldon taking time out of smoking to pout because people criticize the Jets?

I also don't believe the billboard had THAT much of an effect.  To cue from a Bill Burr joke about domestic violence, how some guy is banging the head of his wife against the cupboard for overcooking dinner, sees a domestic violence ad, and goes "What? This is wrong?  Oh, honey, honey, here here, it's ok!".  You think a billion dollar corporation couldn't tell that fans were unhappy, until they saw a billboard?  Woody riding in his helicopter, having the pilot circle the billboard so he could read it?  Idzik made his bed with the draft picks.  Once, those picks bombed (especially when the cross town rivals got a star out of it), his story was ending.  We live in a time where stores can predict if you are pregnant or not based on your browsing history.  Rest assured, they knew people were unhappy.

when did we ever blow a 15 pt lead in the 2nd half of a game under Rex?  we blew some one score games but the big blown leads never happened.

Rex only has 2 losing seasons in his career, Bowles is about to go 1 for 2 in that category.

Rex only has 2 winning seasons as well.  And I think only Jeff Fisher is an active head coach who has been absent from the playoffs as long as Rex.

Bowles will have 1 losing season, and 1 winning season, and no one is arguing he's even a decent coach.  Rex, again, hasn't had a winning season in 6 years.

Man, those back to back AFC Championship Game appearances must have been life altering for you, though.

only 2 losing and hasn't had playoff talent since the early years w/ the Jets.  he has lifted every team he has coached w/ really the exception of the 2014 NYJ when he was sabotaged by Idzik and maybe 2011 NYJ.

Rex is in the race w/ half the talent Bowles has, Bowles' season has been over since Halloween.

Bowles doesnt have any talent. You keep saying this over and over again and its not true lol. Where is all this talent on the New York Jets you speak of?

No O-Line, no secondary, Revis is a shell of himself, Decker is out for the year,  no QB, suspect LB's. Where's the talent? Revis, David Harris, Nick Mangold, these guys aren't the same players they were under Rex when they were younger. They are just names. The Jets have a pretty good group of receivers but are missing a big piece in Decker. What else do they really have? I'd say they have good skill position talent on O with nobody to get them the ball.

They have a talented group of D-Lineman but Richardson is forced out of position due to having to many of the same player and Wilkerson is rebounding from a broken leg still.

And Rex hasnt elevated that team in Buffalo. They are 6-6 on pace to maybe be 9-7 which is exactly what they were before Rex got there. You're acting like he's built some juggernaut in Buffalo.

OL is not great but it's more than good enough

excellent WRs

good RBs

serviceable QB

most talented DL in the league

Buffalo should be 3-8 right now not us.  if they had Bowles they would be.  if we had Rex we'd be a playoff contender.

The O-Line is a train wreck.

The D-Line is good but they have 3 guys who do the same thing. Richardson is forced out of position and Wilkerson is obviously still recovering from a broken leg or just got his money and decided to start dogging it. One or the other. I'm going with the idea he's still hurt. But either way, the D-Line has suffered.

The QB is extremely average. Rex has a much better QB. Rex has better talent right now. And he's not getting that team to the playoffs barring a late miracle.
