Silly question but why do people say "Pacific Northwest" instead of "Northwest"

In NY we don't say "Atlantic Northeast".  Why do they add "Pacific" in "Pacific Northwest"

Because in colonial times, "Northwest" referred to Indiana, Illinois and Ohio.

Because the Pacific Northwest is the best part of the country to live in hands down.  Weed is legal, robust economy, great scenery, gorgeous women, outdoor activities but you still have access to great cities like Seattle, Portland and Vancouver, BC, instead of the Jets you have the Seattle Seahawks.

I loved living in Seattle outside of the taxes, stripclubs (they suck, SFlorida is way better), wantabe hippies, liberals and gun laws. Great food, music, weather (yes weather), nightlife, geography and sh*t.

Taxes?  Washington state has no state income tax.
