ejgiant
No question there are a lot of holes. No question that Bowles leaves a lot to be desired. No question that the OL is bad. But, Hackenberg should start the final game to maybe give the fans a slight glimmer of hope for the future. If he bombs, they are no worse off then they already are right now! Playing Fitzpatrick in the final game is a waste. 3

TuscanyTile2
I guess what we're to assume is that the Jets think Hack is a legit NFL starter but he needs so much work that putting him in a game right now would either get him injured or so demoralized that he wouldn't be able to recover from it. Give the guy snaps in practice this week (for once!) and let him start next week. If he's getting overrun then put Fitz in there. I mean if Hack is really that terrible that he can't get on the field then how can we expect him to be a QB for us down the road.
Beaver
No ....when will you realize Fitz has some weird voodoo to get any qb ahead of him injured. Wait until Fitz is off the team and secretly traded to the Pats and crushes their org.
OH THE PAIN
If he doesn't play next week , then the whole coaching staff , including Mikey mac , should be FIRED . You don't draft someone in the second round to WATCH for a whole season . This isn't Pop Warner . 3

Can't play a guy in the final game that hasn't taken a meaningful snap all season. This guy, along with Petty, Jace Amaro, McDougle etc are making Maccagnan look very bad. Then you have Hackenberg, a second round QB who has looked so bad that Petty actually looked good. Again, not good. I would say Mac needs to hit a home run in this offseason in the draft and free agency to save his job. Bowles, I think, is a goner.

PCP63
Usually I'd want him to, but a one game tryout is not enough. One bad game, and he'd never see the field again.

If they really believe he's this bad then he should be cut. If they believe in him long-term then let him get on the field next week (even if it's just for a quarter or a half). Ideally they'd let him start the game and see how he holds up. If he flounders then go back to Fitz. If he's good though then let him play the whole game. It would give fans a reason to show up for the game plus it will give us an idea if he shows potential.

Joejet
I'm torn on this subject. On the one hand it would be nice to see him get his feet wet in a regular season game. On the other hand if he hasn't been receiving snaps in our offense in practice it could be a recipe for disaster. With the state of our offensive line it's necessary to make quick reads so that you don't get killed. My curiosity wants to see him but not at the expense of an injury.
munchmemory
Ray Lucas said what many of us have also, he's never heard of a "red shirt" as an NFL term. I think it just shows that no one outside of the idiot Mcc who drafted him, thinks Hack can play in the NFL. I mean, not even dress the kid once? In a lost season? In the final three games when Petty is banged up? All I need to know, folks.
section314
No. The plan all season was for him not to play, stick to it. Argue about the merits of that next year when you see the progress he's made. As for next weeks game, run the ball almost every play like they did vs Miami a couple of years ago, keep the clock moving, and get the heck out of Dodge for the season.
Popular Post Snell41
Hackenberg playing the last game would be the final act of desperation for a regime knowing they are possibly on the way out. If our leadership is comfortable knowing they are not going anywhere then they will stick to their plan of keeping Hack on the bench this year. If they're worried they might be goners, then they start Hack and pray he plays lights out to show Woody that their long term plan is still viable. That is like buying a used car that you know has a blown engine and tranny just to leave it in the garage. What the hell were they thinking if this guy cannot play? Ridiculous and again, among the million and a half other shortcomings of this regime, grounds for firing.
Pac
A good reason to fire the entire coaching staff is the "job" they've done with Hack. To openly admit you're not going to work on his mechanics until after the season is remarkable, and not in a good way. Who does that? I understand drafting a QB and saying we don't plan on playing him but to chase that with "oh yeah - by the way. We're not going to even work with him until next year". wtf?? All of them gone. Please. Soon.

As much as I dislike Fitz, I'd rather see him at QB this week than Hack. Having a QB play his first game in a situation like this is cruel and unusual punishment. Hack is probably still in counseling after having to play behind Penn State's oline. Playing behind ours next week could ruin any progress that has been made.

EM31
This offensive line cannot protect anyone. If we want to prove that AGAIN next week with a new QB then go right ahead. Otherwise Fitz is the guy.
David Harris
I think the downside potential is too great. Plays bad or gets crushed it'll hurt his confidence all off season. Fresh start next year at this point IMO

You go into the next season with the assumption he is not the answer. You know Fitz and Geno are gone, and you know Petty is not the answer either. The answer is in the first round of this draft, and Hack is the backup plan.Sent from my iPhone using JetNation.com mobile app
