Should Jets play Hackenberg in final game?

Hackenberg hasn't practiced all season. Throwing him out there behind an offensive with 4/5 starters on IR against a good defense is extraordinarily counterproductive.

I hate to have to sit and watch Fitz play another 4 quarters, but go let him get killed out there... don't do that to the kid that may be our future.

I want to see Hack out there because it will show just how clueless our FO is when it comes to the draft.

Yes...the failure of our developmental project qb behind all backup offensive linemen against a coach who love to blitz and hates our team for fireing him would certainly prove that our front office is clueless...

I have absolutely no interest in watching Mr. Fitzpatrick take one more snap for this team,  I don't care if Woody plays quarterback. p.s.  I have been a jet fan for fifty years and have never felt compelled to turn  off a game, even pre-season, before this year,  so those of you who want a repeat performance,  with this putrid "coaching" staff, I urge you to think again

No chance. The moment Hackenberg takes a snap in anger is the moment you all realize the emperor's been naked the whole time. Maccagnan's keeping him locked in the dungeon as long as humanly possible.

He plays and stinks up the joint its exposed we have nothing at QB Macc might be looking for a job maybe he and Bowles know this so they are protecting each others jobs.

^Bowles took a media day off to go to the doctor..  I'm sure the reporters will be asking that for sure Tuesday.  I'm curious too what the answer is...they're having a hard time just fielding 53 players as it is.

I don't know.. I know this will probably get a laugh but I trust the coaching staff on this one.  Hack hasn't had any reps with the first team all year and all the sudden he's going to be asked if he can start.  He needs a few practice sessions and if the coaching staff thinks he can't do it then... well it'll show how far away he is from being a starting quarterback.  If he sits that says a lot where he is..

At the same time since the Bills are eliminated from the playoffs, I think the fanbase/franchise there wants to see their bench players as well and that franchise will be in preseason mode....so are they playing all their starters too?  Rex will probably still play his starters in a defiant way of "we're playing to win" sort of mentality to save his job and end the season on a win..

I bet it goes down to Thursday for the announcement or game time.  No reason to announce who's starting... but I would like to see Hackenberg play just to see where he's at.  Plus it's going to be a good 6+ months before we see him again.. why not *shrugs*

Would Woody go for that? Does look like he is too comfortable in the buff.

I don't think they'll start Hackenberg at all, especially with such limited amount of practice, although he's probably well versed with playing behind a leaky line at this point.   Rex is famous for dialing up blitzes, so I'm not sure I want him exposed out there so both our QBs go into the off season injured.

If not for self-loathing Jets Fans, they'red be no Jets Fans.  Fitz may suck, but this level of ill-will wishing is part and parcel of why Jets Fans are amongst the worst in the NFL.

On the topic....

Yes, Hack should dress, yes Hack should play.

If Hack is so god damn fragile, of body or of mind or both, that a one-game-started poor experience and presumably a few INT's breaks him permanently, they he doesn't belong in the NFL.  Not now, not ever.

He should play, and we (fans) should give no sh*ts about how he looks nor start demanding he be cut or we trade up to #1 overall et. al.  But lets be honest, we know what this places reaction would be......good or bad, half this site would be calling for his head and a demand he be replaced that very day.  SOJF.

I'm half convinced Bowles/Macc is protecting Hack more from our own Fans than from opposing Defenses.

I'm not self loathing. Just Fitz loathing. The fact that I detest him says nothing about how I feel about myself

Seeing more and more articles and posts popping up now about how Hack should play, like his pretty lame one from RC:

ESPN - Will Fear Prevent Jets...

But again, people are completely discounting the state of the OL.

The arguments I hear are that the Jets won't play him because they are afraid it'll expose him or that it's a sign Hackenberg is terrible or that this is no way to run an organization or 'what do they have to lose?'...

And you know what, all of that is very fair to question. But there is in my mind zero point to trotting him out there and risking injury just to see him look like a deer in the headlights...

You CAN'T evaluate a QB right now behind this line! Especially if he only plays a half. No QB is going to look good behind the OL the Jets trot out there. It's literally getting people injured left and right.

The media wants to see Hack because they want to spend the offseason talking about how bad he looked in his 30 minutes of play. Because he will look bad... Guys like RC just want to spend the next few months writing cynical articles and smirking at the organization.

I just don't see what playing him does. It's just a bunch of hyperbole but I don't care if you trotted out Montana or Brees or whoever. They'd look like shells of themselves behind this OL. The Jets are better served sticking to their guns and staying consistent with their plan to "red shirt" him this year... At least they can say they stood their ground.

Of course now that I write all this, he'll probably play.

Mac didn't draft them either. I am annoyed at Mac too. But your facts are wrong.

Ok, for the last time, my quote was sarcastic. I specifically picked Idzik picks to mock some previous posts that called out Mac for Idzik posts. I will now put <<sarcasm>> in such posts.
