What is a head coaches job?

One of the biggest tasks of a head coach is to get his players ready to play, weed out the bad eggs, produce a culture of team work and discipline and to be able to know how to handle different personalities.

People who support Bowles are totally ignoring that he has brought a lot of these team check out issues onto himself.  That is his job, he has failed at it.

He thinks he is doing the right thing by 'handling it internally' by sticking up for his players like flat out lieing  'the effort is there, some young guys just missed assignments' but he has utterly failed in that regard, the team is not playing hard for him, and when I say team I mean the majority of the team and most of the vets.

I doubt if he we be fired and that fact that our gm has no say in this will sink maccagnan as well sooner or later.

The only hope for bowles in my mind is if the Jets this off season just take a true wrecking ball to the team and get rid of ALL of the malcontent dead wood.

What I think will happen will be they will dump a bunch of players to get cap space then sign a bunch of other vets to try and save their phoney baloney jobs.  We go 8-8,next year and the cycle of jets life continues.

Carroll won 10, then 9, then 8 games with a Pats team that Parcells built, but GM Bobby Grier slowly destroyed with some terrible drafting and veteran reward contracts (remember that he made Drew Bledsoe the highest paid NFL player ever at one point).

Carroll was never an amazing X's and O's coach.  The schemes in Seattle are not complex.  They just happen to have a lot of very good players that they taught sound fundamentals to on defense.

The biggest problem the Jets have is talent at some key positions.  Give Bowles another year, jettison some of the troublemakers, and find a new QB.

If Woody has his way, yes.

And to fire a GM in less than 3 seasons is about as dumb as it gets.

No matter how many fans think it's smart

Mac needs more time for sure, unfortunately he is doomed because he has no control over who coaches the team and how they coach the team.  He will draft an impact pass rusher next year and bowles will have him playing as an ilb or dropping into coverage all the time or .'setting the edge'

or he "won't be ready yet"

Keeping Bowles next year just prolongs the firing one year - no one is going to advocate keeping him after another 4-5 win season which is happening next year.  This ain't a over night fix - so either you commit to the guy long term 4-5 years or you cut him loose now and begin the long rebuild process with a new guy - Bowles should be toast

Yet he made the playoffs 2 of his 3 years with the Pats and yes he took over a Tuna team but BB took over and went 5-11 after Carroll left..

As I recollect Carroll was a players coach, the players walked all over him and that's why he got canned from the Jets gig.

Firing 3 GMs in 4 years Pretty much guarantees we will not have anyone competent at GM or coach for the next 10 years.

I don't believe this for a minute.  Any HC worth a sh-t can look at the roster we had at the start of the season and feel like they should be a playoff contender.

Gruden and Harbaugh aren't coming here.  It's not about attracting the biggest name.  It's about getting someone whose team isn't a pathetic bunch of underachieving morons who openly admit to quitting.

They're saying they are making the same mistakes they've made all year.  They're constantly out of position, constantly start games flat, play devoid of emotion (like their coach), and clearly don't respect Bowles.

The kind of coach I want would see the same things many of us see and say "I'm going to fix this sh-t, and fast".  No doubt in my mind a competent coach has this team at least near .500.  At least.

^^^ Says the guy who supported a coach who said "We're going to fix it" after every loss in the postgame press conference, for 6 years, and never did.

Rex Ryan >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Bowles.

Won more than 4 games with much less talented rosters.

So why are the Bills firing him?

because they are making a mistake.  announcers during the game were saying the same thing.  the team has had a rash of injuries yet still plays hard every week.  they both said Rex 100% deserves another year.

the Jets have a rash of injuries and quit like bitches.  they'll end the season getting punked by the fins, humiliated by the pats, and sh-t stomped by the Bills.

but yeah..  Bowles deserves another year.

The fact that you are suggesting that we do what the Bills do is a warning sign. Following the same actions of the Buffalo Bills is not a great idea

The biggest problem with firing Bowles now, as @Sperm Edwards has pointed out,  is that it probably buys Maccagnan at least 2-3 more years. Fire them both now or fire them both a year from now, but firing one now is dumb.

Agreed. The only way I'd get rid of them both now is if they gave a big name coach like Harbaugh or Coughlin full control over the team. And that's a pie-in-the-sky scenario. Not happening.

Which, unless you are the Colts, earned the same amount of trophies as what Bowles did his first year.

And second year for which we are one of the worst teams in the NFL.

Im done discussing the current situation with you, you are obviously a Todd Bowles supporter I am not.

Have a nice day.

It's not a matter of supporting Todd Bowles. It's a matter of being a viable job to other candidates and not becoming a revolving door of head coaches.

If Bowles sucks next year, fire him and he will have less years than Rex.
