joewilly12
Jets hosting N.J.'s K'Waun Williams on free agent visit, source confirms K'Waun Williams (36) to the Jets? (Saed Hindash | NJ Advance Media for NJ.com) PrintEmail By Darryl Slater | NJ Advance Media for NJ.com Email the author | Follow on Twitter on February 13, 2017 at 10:42 AM, updated February 13, 2017 at 2:33 PM The cornerback-needy Jets are hosting free agent cornerback K'Waun Williams on a visit this week, a league source confirmed. Williams has "numerous" other visits set up with teams, the source said. One of those is with the Lions on Monday. Williams will arrive Tuesday in New Jersey for his Jets visit. NFL Media's Ian Rapoport first reported Williams' visits to the Lions and Jets. Williams, who turns 26 in July, was born in Paterson and played at Saint Joseph Regional High in Montvale. He went undrafted out of Pittsburgh in 2014 and has spent his entire NFL career so far with the Browns. Williams is 5-foot-9 and 183 pounds. 3 questions Jets must answer this offseason Between 2014 and 2015, Williams played in 26 games, with 10 starts. His career stats: zero interceptions, 10 passes defended, three forced fumbles, two recovered fumbles, and two sacks. He was primarily a slot corner for the Browns. His smaller physical build makes him a better fit in the slot, rather than at outside corner. Williams didn't play last season, following an ankle injury. That injury -- and the treatment of it -- was a point of contention between Williams and the Browns in the preseason. The Browns wound up suspending Williams for two weeks in August and fining him, because he refused to play in a preseason game at the Packers. Later in August, the Browns waived Williams. He signed with the Bears immediately after the Browns waived him, but Williams' contract with Chicago was voided because he failed his physical. After that, Williams did not get picked up by any team last season. Since Williams is a free agent, he doesn't have to wait until the 2017 league year begins in March to find a new team. He can make free agency visits now, which is what he's doing, since he is healthy and medically cleared. 8 Jets who should be gone in 2017 Time to make some cuts. Williams looks like a backup-type player, but the Jets are seeking any answers they can get at corner. No. 1 corner Darrelle Revis could be cut, and Marcus Williams is a pending restricted free agent. Buster Skrine, who is best suited to play in the slot, likely will be back. Juston Burris, a fourth-round draft pick last year, definitely will return in 2017. Not that Williams projects as a definite starting slot corner, but if the Jets do want to cut Skrine, it would create $3.5 million in salary cap space, albeit with a $5 million dead money figure attached to the transaction. Skrine's cap number in 2017 is set to be $8.5 million. His dead money number makes it unlikely the Jets would cut him. Darryl Slater may be reached at dslater@njadvancemedia.com. Gas2No99
K'Waun Williams - DB - Free Agent NJ Advance Media's Darryl Slater reports the Jets have offered a contract to free agent CB K'Waun Williams. Slater also reports Williams received offers from three other teams. Williams sat out 2016 with an ankle injury, but he played quality snaps his first two years in the league. It is not surprising he is drawing interest. Desperate for corner help, Williams would be a good get for the Jets. Beerfish
I'll be just fine if they cut Skrine, I said he sucked from the day we signed him.

Gas2No99
K'Waun Williams - DB - Free Agent CSN Bay Area reports free agent CB K'Waun Williams has received a contract offer from the 49ers. He's also received offers from the Dolphins, Jets and Lions. Williams is scheduled to meet with the Vikings on Wednesday and could make his decision shortly after. The 25-year-old went undrafted out of Pitt in 2014 but has proven to be a useful nickel back when healthy. He sat out all of last season after undergoing surgery to remove bone spurs from his ankle. #27TheDominator
There are not many 25 year old players with starting experience that are eligible to be signed at this stage of the year. I do not believe that this will have the slightest impact on guys like Gillmore and Bouye. He may have been a problem with Cleveland, but remember it was the Browns. He did pretty well under Pettine, but under Jackson/Horton he was demoted. The Browns suspended him and acted like he refused to play a preseason game because of the demotion or an injury they felt he was milking. He claims he had an ankle injury - bone spurs which eventually required surgery and forced him to miss 2016, the Browns seem to think he wasn't hurt and should have played. The Browns medical staff managed to have around 10 years of staff infections and were notoriously crappy. Williams was probably somewhat vindicated when the Bears put in a waiver claim and he promptly failed the physical.

Gas2No99
SHUNNED!!!!! K'Waun Williams - DB - 49ers 49ers signed CB K'Waun Williams to a one-year contract. The Vikings, Dolphins, Jets and Lions were also in pursuit of Williams. The 25-year-old missed all of last season while recovering from ankle surgery. When healthy, he'll give San Francisco a viable nickel corner and perhaps allow the 49ers to move Jimmie Ward to free safety. NYDreamer
This reminds me of the CB Rodgers-Cromartie, when you let a guy leave the building w/out a contract he can't refuse, another team steps in and signs him.
rangerous
this guy is also pretty small. he's 5-9 or soa nd will have trouble guarding the larger receivers just like skrine does. could be some good insurance for skrine if he keeps on getting holding calls. i doubt if they can cut skrine this season because of his cap hit but next season..... varjet
I can't see the Jets being the prime spot for a FA given their coaching uncertainty. As the Jets rebuild, they need to draft well and find lots of picks. Any picks that can be had for SR, B Marshall, Decker or even Folk would be helpful, particularly in this draft. For FA in 2017, signing Beachum and one of the CBs would be hugely helpful. After that, just draft.

However, to back up your point, that is why the Jets may have to overpay for guys. Which hasn't really helped the past few years. I agree, draft and coach up the players. #27TheDominator
What the hell is wrong with you people? This was a near minimum signing. The guy went on the rounds to see which team would give him the best deal (probably a larger modest bonus than the others) and where he felt most comfortable. Of course the Jets let him leave the building, if you up your offers to guys like this how can you afford to sign real players? He was scheduled to meet the Vikings and the Lions had him in twice. Positives to signing a guy like this: young, starting NFL experience, doesn't cost a draft pick, cheap, signing does not count against for comp picks. Negatives: small, slow, experience was with the Browns whose pass D went in the toilet while he was there, undrafted for a reason, suspended by the Browns for multiple violations of team rules

JiF
Damn, you know sh*t's bad when San Fran is more attractive than the Jets. Doesnt he know that Todd Bowles specializes in secondary? Has he not seen the super assistant team that Todd put together?
