So he's in the process of developing a location probably spending a lot of money and goes to visit the area and is harassed by a few thugs he defends himself and is a now labeled a terrorist by fans of the NY Jets.

You cant make this sh*t up!

You actually think he was doing some impromptu real estate work at 2am?

The conspiracy charge is the most telling, I've read the PA statues and it says that anyone who partners with someone else who commits a crime is guilty of the same crime.  So even if Darrelle didn't throw the punches, the police believe that he and his acquaintance worked together to attack the two who wound up unconscious, one of which broke orbital bones around his eye.  He is charged with two counts of aggravated assault though, could be that he threw the punches.  Either way, that's three felony charges.

The terrorism charge relates to doing something in a public environment that causes disruption, it's a fine and a misdemeanor.  Robbery, I'm guessing, would be taking this guy's cellphone, that's another felony.

I'd love to see the wording of any misconduct clause that may be in Revis' contract.

That would be a stroke of luck.  Any Jets fan who is a devoted Revis guy is nuts.  He has shown time and time again that he doesn't give a sht about the Jets, Jets fans or really anything except himself.

I've gotta play some minor defense (heh) on Revis. It has to be said. He turned into a lazy complainer, but in all seriousness, anyone who wouldn't milk their corporate employers for everything that they're worth in a dangerous game is a big, fat, liar. That being said, hahahahaha. You can't script it. Go Jets!

At this point all I care about is what is best for the team, both on the field and freedom to improve personnel.  Not paying Revis another $50 billion dollars for getting toasted again and again in every game ought to be pretty high on Mac's priority list.  He just may have found a parachute to free himself from the horrible CB situation that he himself created.

Ask yourself this: Would Belichick make use of the opportunity to save millions and remove an on-the-field liability if he had the chance?

If Mac doesn't get rid of him, assuming he has the opportunity to , then he should be fired

Hey guys a few things:

1. Let's stay on topic here. I don't want to have to moderate this thread. Leave all the other B.S. out of this.

2. Say what you want about Revis, but he hasn't been in trouble off the field before. He has been a good dude. Sure his performance was bad this year and he hasn't lived up to the contract. But this is an unfortunate situation but no need for complete character assassination.

This is true and fair. I have no idea if charges would help the Jets financially. But if they do, you walk away from Revis. His play has slipped. You need to clean up the locker room. So you walk away. It sends a strong message to the younger players to stay out of trouble.

If Revis gets charged, contract probably becomes voided

Contract gets voided, he's off the team.

Now where do we go?  We have Justin Burris (who got toasted all of last year), Buster Skrine (Who we may not be able to move on from now), Marcus Williams (Who alternated getting interceptions with getting toasted), Dexter McDougle?  That's a bottom tier group.  Our only real hope of bouncing back next season was a recovery from Revis to at least league average.  These guys aren't talented enough to play man coverage consistently.

So now, we have to get two starting corners via draft and/or FA.  So the savings from Revis has to go to say Gilmore or Buoy or Johnson?  Let's assume they need a contract just short of Janoris Jenkins to come here, 4 years $45 million?  Assuming the savings of Revis (of going from the $15 million cap hit to say 9 this year) is now mangled by the rest of this contract being large cap hits and dead money hits.  The reason the Revis contract was at least survivable was that, if we fire the GM/Coach next year, they could move on from Revis without any hits and start over with players that may fit their new system.  Now, we may have to pay up for someone this off-season with a decent possibility that anyone involved with making the decisions won't be around after next year.

And we need a CB on the other side as well, let's say via the draft, so that forces our hand more in the draft as well.

I'm not saying moving on from him isn't the right idea, but having no choice on the matter is terrible for the Jets.  The same thing with IK, where everyone said, it makes no difference, makes team better over-night, etc.  We ended up paying for it in the long term because we hitched our wagon to a journeyman QB.

Terrorist Threats? Lol Rex would be locked up for life.

Got a feeling, this is going to get settled out of court, charges dropped, and the main talking point will be on how to blame the Jets.  "McCagnan refuses to stand by Jets legend, throws team into more disarray by dropping Revis to the Patriots again".  "McCagnan shows no balls by sticking with Revis after such a violent event, rumors that he's a lame duck GM"

Darrelle Revis had a disappointing season on the field in 2016. His on the field problems might be the least of his worries, he was charged with four first-degree criminal felonies and one misdemeanor on Thursday.

STATEMENT BY BLAINE JONES LAW, Representing Darrelle Revis:

Mr. Revis came home to Pittsburgh this past weekend to visit family and friends. During that time Mr. Revis went by a location in the Southside that he is in the process of developing. Mr. Revis was physically assaulted while at that location by a group of at least 5 people. Mr. Revis feared for his safety and retreated from the aggressors. Mr. Revis was not arrested after this incident. Mr. Revis sought medical attention as a result of the aforementioned attack.

That statement was made before the criminal charges were filed. Connor Hughes gives this update:

According to Jones, Revis “was 1,000 percent the victim” after being assaulted by a “heavily intoxicated man” who shoulder-checked him. After failing to dissolve the situation, Revis turned to walk away. At this time, per Jones, several people in the man’s group pursued Revis, who defended himself before leaving the scene.

The Pittsburgh Police paint a far different picture of the event. Here’s their official statement:

On Sunday, February 12 at approximately 2:43 a.m., Zone 3 Officers were dispatched to the intersection of S. 23rd and E. Carson streets for a report that two males had been knocked unconscious. According to the investigation, a 22-year-old male from Kittanning was walking along E. Carson Street when he spotted a male who resembled Aliquippa native Darrell Revis, a cornerback in the NFL. He asked if the man was Darrell Revis and he confirmed that he was. The male began recording the interaction on his cellphone and continued following Revis. At some point, Revis snatched the cellphone away and attempted to delete the video. Another 21-year-old male from Ross Township attempted to help the 22-year-old retrieve the cellphone. Revis then tossed the phone onto the roadway. A verbal argument followed. A male came to assist Revis. Both the 22-year-old and the 21-year-old state they were punched then remember waking up to talk to police. Witnesses state the two were unconscious for about 10 minutes.

We live in an age where everyone wants to rush to judgement. We weren’t there, so we are going to let this one play out. It is definitely an unfortunate situation and we hope all the injured parties are okay.  Visit our forums to read more about Darrelle Revis getting arrested.

So we draft a corner early AND we go get Buyoe.  Revis was a liability on the field just as often as anyone else in that secondary was . Buoye is a lot better.  I wouldn't be pinning my hopes on Revis getting anywhere near league average.  Buoye is above league average and cheaper. Not a bad situation at all for a new GM and/or HC in 2018.

Agree, with the exception of the only hope being a Revis bounce back at corner. I'm sympathetic to the concern over an potential additional mess created, but a newly acquired FA in his playing prime is more likely to have a good season than a bounceback from 32 yr old Revis. Particularly in light of his own supposed hints to others that he can't do what he once could (& therefore would not bounce back in the way you're thinking/hoping).

Burris didn't get toasted all of last year. He was solid for a rookie.

They can't move on from Skrine because they reworked his contract and he's not worth cutting.

Marcus Williams is no more than a dime player.

The best corner last year was Roberts who was not all that good to begin with.

The secondary was terrible when Macc started and it hasn't gotten any better since then despite giving out 50-60 million dollars in contracts to terrible players.

They're going to draft a corner or safety at 6. Just get used to that idea now.

Hope they sue him for mega millions and win.  I want to see Mevi$ on 30 for 30 where he is living on the street and cleaning windows at red lights for liquor money.

Yeah as real fans we should all pray that one of our all time greats winds up that way.  Makes sense to me, makes people feel good.

How old are you?

Whether they reworked Skrine or not is irrelevant unless he got additional guaranteed money, which he didn't. All they did was convert salary to signing bonus; he was paid he same amount in 2016. The problem you're highlighting is every penny of that cleared 2016 space (and more) was used up, so it "feels" like he now costs more, but truthfully he costs the same.

This year his salary is $6m and none of this new money is guaranteed. That is the only amount that isn't a sunk cost.

His cap number this season is 8.5 million. If they cut him it's 5 million in dead money with 3.5 in savings. If they didn't rework him, those numbers were more team friendly. Either way, it's far too much money invested into one of the worst corners in the league.

Really???  He is the most selfish NY JET in the last 10 years.  I wouldn't wash my car with a Revis Jersey.

All honesty...  I havent read the charges, I dont care, I give him the benefit of the doubt. Ive done things that if caught , would really look bad on me.

BUT..lets not make him out to be something he is not.

Considering how badly we were torched last year 2 new corners are what we needed anyway. In no way was the plan for Revis to be our savior, he is getting older and his play more than slipped last year. It should have always been the plan to work on a replacement, now hopefully we have a way to do it with a significant cost savings.

I know people are saying things like "this is so like the Jets" but actually this is a stroke of luck that we normally couldnt dream of. Mac was facing a pretty hard decision that just got a lot easier. This isnt completely about character and bringing in good guys because some of the players he has looked at are not squeaky clean. From a business stand point negotiating with Revis about cutting his salary and/or moving to safety would have been a nightmare, keeping him at the current price at any position with deteriorating skills and advancing age is already a nightmare come to life.

I dont believe for a minute that he was scouting properties at 2 am in an area HE GREW NEAR. I own properties and have checked them out at different hours of the day(and night) but I dont get out of the car and walk the streets....and I'm NOT famous. Additionally, he is an well known NFL player and people film him all the time. If nothing was sketchy then there would be no reason to take/break a cell phone or delete an innocent video. What could it possibly show? Him looking at the building, taking a few snapshots to send to his real estate agent? We dont know the real details but whats come out so far sounds like a story my 10 yr old wold tell when I ask who ate the last donut.
