why did we cut this guy after signing him?

Texans WR Bruce Ellington "appears destined to survive" final cuts.

Ellington has flashed since signing with the Texans three weeks ago. Getting playing time with the first-team due to injuries, Ellington has eight catches for 122 yards through two preseason games. He appears to be competing with Dres Anderson for a roster spot, although injuries and Jaelen Strong's one-game suspension could allow both to stick.

I haven't seen any of what he's done with the Texans, but he seemed to be part of an endless rotation at WR they had going on at the time.  The guy hardly has a great track record considering he's got 19 catches after 3 years in SF.  It's not like he was facing such great competition at the position there either, but I guess we'll see.  Here's hoping that the Jets were right, and they end up having someone better.

Jeremy Lane - DB -  Seahawks

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Seahawks are gauging the trade value of CB Jeremy Lane.

The Seahawks are doing the same with RB Alex Collins and WR Jermaine Kearse. Expected to start opposite Richard Sherman, Lane is a much more surprising name than Collins or Kearse, however. If this report is accurate, Seattle's willingness to move him suggests they are comfortable with third-round rookie Shaquill Griffin starting. Lane has three years left on his deal, but he can be cut with little cap ramifications after this year.

I have never seen so much trade activity in the league as we approach a season.  What has shifted in

the minds of management?

Larger rosters.  At this point teams would have been down to 75, but now they have extra room.  Meanwhile, they have 20 guys they normally would have cut already taking up space on their rosters.

Bears released WR Victor Cruz.

It speaks volumes that Cruz couldn't even make the Bears' roster after Cameron Meredith went down with a season-ending ACL tear. The 30-year-old salsa enthusiast finally stayed healthy last season, but managed just 586 receiving yards and went his last 14 games without scoring a touchdown. Cruz's career is hanging by a thread.

If giants cut either Matt Lacosse, will tye, or Travis Rudolph would jump on that. They would all be upgrades. Would also look for OL.

The #Bengals are releasing center JJ Dielman, a 5th rounder from Utah, source said. If he clears, he'll be back on the practice squad.

Draft Projection

Round 7-PFA

NFL Comparison

Wesley Johnson

Bottom Line

An athletic center with the plus athleticism of a three-year tackle, but he lacks the core power that some teams will require from an interior lineman. Needs to bulk up and add as much strength as possible in order to be a functional NFL player. While his movement skills will be enticing for zone-scheme teams, he could be limited by scheme fit, which narrows the teams who might consider drafting him.

The Giants have cut WR Travis Rudolph, according to a source.

Jordan Raanan @JordanRaanan

The Giants are waiving TE Will Tye, per source. He started 10 games, caught 48 passes last year. Would expect him to be claimed Sunday.

I hate STB threads.

But Will Tye is a guy I would take a close look at.

Or this guy.  Nevermind

The #Redskins will release TE Derek Carrier if he is not traded by the noon today, source said. The team has been working on it.

Washington traded TE Derek Carrier to LA Rams, per source. Carrier reunited with Sean McVay.

Wow, they actually compared somebody to Wesley Johnson? This kid must stink.

Patriots acquired DB Johnson Bademosi from the Lions in exchange for an undisclosed draft pick.

Badedmosi, 27, started the first three games of his career in 2016, as he’s been mostly a reserve and special teamer through five NFL seasons. In 2016, Bademosi played on roughly a quarter of Detroit’s defensive snaps but saw action on more than half the club’s special teams plays. He’s entering the final season of a two-year deal and will make $1.3MM in base salary in 2017.

The Patriots are typically field one of the league’s best special teams units, so Bademosi will fit in nicely. Last year, New England ranked eighth in special teams DVOA. The Patriots had interest in signing Bademosi before he landed with the Lions last year, tweets Michael Lomardi of the Ringer.
