joewilly12
FL Trade Rumors: Jets eying AJ McCarron, may deal Sheldon Richardson 74 Could the Jets and Bengals strike a blockbuster trade? by Jason Marcum@marcum89 Mar 9, 2017, 10:48am EST TWEET SHARE PIN REC Logan Bowles-USA TODAY Sports With NFL free agency now open, many teams are still searching for their next starting quarterback. The Jets figure to be among them after letting Ryan Fitzpatrick go this offseason. All the Jets have now is Bryce Petty who has shown nothing to make New York believe he’s ready to be anything more than a decent backup in the NFL. Even though the Jets spent a second-round pick on Penn State’s Christian Hackenberg last year, all indications are he’s a mess with little-to-no starting potential. That’s why the Jets are a team to watch for in the AJ McCarron sweepstakes. According to David Wyatt of Gang Green Nation, the Jets are not only interested in McCarron, but could be working on a trade that involves Sheldon Richardson landing with the Bengals. Wyatt also spoke with an NFL scout that said the Jets are interested in McCarron. That’s expected since New York is likely interested in most quarterbacks that are either free agents or trade bait, but McCarron is quickly rising to the top of their big board. Mike Glennon is likely signing with the Bears. Jimmy Garoppolo may or may not be traded, but it’s unlikely the Patriots deal him to a division rival. Tony Romo is likely signing with the Texans or Broncos. The Bills are keeping Tyrod Taylor, so he won’t be on the market for New York to pursue. After them, McCarron is easily the best guy for the Jets to go after. It probably would cost them their second-round pick, the 39th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. However, it sounds like they want to unload Richardson, who has just one year left on his rookie deal after being the 13th overall pick of the 2013 NFL Draft. But the Jets have Muhammad Wilkerson and Leonard Williams under contract beyond 2017 along their 3-4 defensive line. Richardson actually played some linebacker this past season, a role he did alright in, but he’s a defensive lineman in a defense that is stacked there. That’s why a team like the Bengals would probably love to have him, especially with Domata Peko hitting free agency and Andrew Billings missing all of his rookie season with a knee injury. If this deal were to go down, it likely wouldn’t be much more than McCarron for Richardson straight up. Richardson has as much trade value as McCarron, if not more, but because McCarron could be a restricted free agent next year, he may have slightly more value. Butterfield
Ive already said this multiple times, but I would love this trade. He is better than any other option out there right now. He comes cheap for 2 years, is still fairly young and would be good competition for hack and petty. Would be a good trade for the bengals too. Make it happen. If he comes in to compete with the kids fine but with bowles around it will insure the end of the kids. And mccarron is just good enough to win too many games to get top pick next year. So yeah, we're doomed to a decade more of garbage

They aren't going to show the throws that weren't completed because there wasn't enough zip. I'm going on what I saw from him in college and every draft analysis. He didn't look bad when he had a chance and is the kind of kid we need a few years ago when we were stacked on defense. But on a rebuild he's just going to get in the way. JoJoTownsell1
And why are the Bengals giving away such a good QB for a one year rental of a headcase on the verge of a long suspension? It's not like Dalton has been that great. They see this kid everyday. If he was franchise QB material they wouldn't be giving him away for a knucklehead like Richardson. SR24
Maybe I'm wrong here but the general assumption is that we're finding our qb next year and won't be competitive this year. So I guess my point is why wouldn't we just trade Sheldon for a pick or package him with a pick to get a better pick? Bengals get an elite level talent and we get a qb for a year idk maybe I'm looking at this the wrong way but I don't see it

Pretty much have to say that about every QB thats available in free agency or through a trade then. Bengals need help on the DL could be the reason and he's in the last year of his contract. Jolot
" a mess with little to no starting potential" is how we should announce our 2nd round picks going forward ...with the 40 something pick of the 2017...18..19...draft , the Jets select....a mess with little to no starting potential . Then mccarron is your man. But that seems pointless.
BroadwayJoe12
The only thing McCarron has going for him is his smokin hot wife, and she's pushin 30. I'll be damned if our QB is dating some over-the-hill model.

He's not going to be easy to sign. From his comments during the Wilkerson contract stuff he is going to want more then Wilkerson. Both sides have negatives, but like the Browns Texans trade, there are enough positives to make it happen

I thought I read they can make him a restricted FA next year so it's basically 2 years to decide what to do with him. This trade or retaining Geno are the only options that makes sense. chirorob
How bad is Hackenburg that they won't even let him compete. We mock Idzik on his drafts, but all Macc did was sign a bunch a big FA to bad contracts and have some shaky drafts himself.

Cam Robinson has been slipping in everyones mocks and Mcaffrey is projected to go at the end of the 1st. If we can leave this draft on day 1 with Hooker/Adams and Cam Robinson/Mcaffrey maybe then I call about our late 3rd rounder for A.J...

Macc has been trying to move Richardson since last year's draft. Hard to say what he'll do if he's offered a "take A J even up, or we're going to move him elsewhere" offer. If they were to go the draft pick route, I'd much rather take pics in next year's draft. More value that way, and GM's are more likely to worry about next year, next year.
